Considering the fact that most quality PC video cards these days have 2GB memory dedicated just for graphics then 2GB is no longer a great deal for a total system, ESPECIALLY if this console is still at least a year or more away. I would genuinely hope for at least 4GB.
But anyway, as for the graphics an AMD Tahiti core (aka 7950/7970) is well over 2.5 teraflops. 7950 is a Tahiti core @ 800mhz, and that is 2.9 teraflops.
7850 aka Pitcairn pro is 1.8 teraflops...
I think it is ridiculous to point out PC devs as the ones causing problems in the industry by asking for better performance. Not all PC devs ask for more power all the time. Many of the truly innovative, class indie titles are born on PC. It is by far and away the very best platform for smaller devs to flesh out their innovative and superb little games, that aren't even technologically oriented.
One glance at PC shows up gems like Superbrothers, Realm of the Mad God, Lege...
Pass for me at this price until i see some killer games only on Wii U with no hope for a port elsewhere. Especially if Sony and Nintendo start making more noises about next gen at the end of the year when this launches.
Surely they will. They'll talk about their massive back catalogues and probably make price cuts to isolate Wii U at the high end price of the market. Then start hinting about their next gen plans for 2013.
I don't care what you think of my 'idea' SilentNegotiator. First post below you are bitching about them, saying they keep catering to consoles. As if it is their choice.
You totally fell for the spin put into the title and got indignant for no reason. You didn't read the quotes in the article. Please read the article before you reply anymore....
Then you come here and criticise my wish and hope of them going back to being PC only. You're b...
Ubisoft throw some money around they can build great engines, Assassins creed is testament to that. They have clearly thrown money and time at this project and the PC version to showcase it.
I would imagine this sort of game is gunning for GTA, which means big publicity campaigns.
One can hope that they would design it for a modern PC. Then everyone else will agree with them after seeing that game....
They are a cutting edge PC developer that is their roots. Of course they want the latest shinest hardware to play with. Now they are partnered with EA however, they have no choice but to cater for the lowest denominator- consoles.
I for one would love to see them ditch consoles again and build brand new cutting edge PC games to push that ...
TheBigShamona "Its amazing how the ps3 can keep up with high end PC 's"
Its more amazing that you think it does, TBH its amazing anyone still does. You obviously have not seen high end PCs.
It was a generalisation which was necessary. I also only named a couple of groups of people, and didn't claim that was a comprehensive list and the only types of customer that exist....
I just don't really know who exactly this thing is aimed at beyond Nintendo fans. I am looking for anyone to suggest and answer my question? Merely wondering what exactly the market will be for a console with a lot of late ports if they look no better than they did on cheaper machines ...
Is it not more about if they are underwhelming versus direct competitors near the end of their life cycles though?
Nintendo need to sell this thing as a new machine. I always said if it can't beat 360 and PS3 day one visually, then people aren't exactly going to buy it for all those ports that look the same as on a machine they bought years ago.
I am still unsure exactly who the audience is for this thing yet. Because if it costs more than 360 and PS3...
Yeah who let Kazunori Yamauchi give advice to the last guardian devs on release schedules? Muppets! Look what he did to them! :)
T900 with the comment i have said time after time, the crucial stat still a mystery. GPU performance.
1.5Gb of RAM sounds alright, but there was also rumours of some crazy massive OS of like 500mb. Would still leave a lot more memory available than PS3 and 360 though.
32mb EDRAM sounds interesting too, because that is actually enough for a 1080p 32 bit frame with 2x MSAA.
Contrast 360's 10mb which is only enough for 1024 x 600 32bit 2x MS...
360 launch titles still had some pretty stuff. PGR3 for example blew away every racer at that time no sweat. The car models and city models were way beyond anything around at the time.
Personally i watched the pikmin 3 video and i love pikmin. I still have them on cube.
We don't know the precise resolution, but visually there was absolutely nothing there PS3 and 360 couldn't do at HD resolutions. More importantly to refer to your comment specifically,...
".....the results are above and beyond 3D gaming and movies on any other platform. Yes, even Avatar"
Yep, it really is THAT good on PC when you get it right.
Pretty much why i keep saying 3D for consoles needs to wait, the performance and setup on PC isn't just a bit superior, it really is massively superior for the moment.
Console gamers who haven't used it on PC don't understand, but i play 3D games on all these platfo...
Its a great game, i have a decent connection and everything and no cap BUT its deffo one you want on disc. So i have the retail version, i got it cheaper than i could download too.
Saying that even on disc it can take something like 40 minutes to install, going through all 4 discs. My install folder reads 28.3GB.
I sense that it may be time soon to start putting games like this on bluray for PC. Bluray drives are considerably faster than DVD too, so coupled w...
The U.N is deploying UNSC forces as we speak, insurgents please remain where you are to be arrested and we might go easy and refrain from sending in the Spartans to kick your ass
Microsoft busted a gut to shrink their OS to such a small size. It was impressive. It also was the reason why 360 has had more memory for games all these years, smaller OS footprint.
All that work paid off no end.
Its performance is at least as old as PS3 anyway- It is slightly slower than 8800GTX whch came out a few days before PS3!
8800GT feels very old and slow in PC terms, it really is. They go for a measely £40 on ebay second hand.
Not bad really considering it is still relevant like this.
"The process of 3d is the same 2 images at different angles"
That article you linked to is headed 'STEREOSCOPY'!!!!!
This is called stereoscopic in games that use 2 separate frame buffers. Crysis 2 is not truly stereoscopic, it does not use 2 rendered framebuffers i.e 2 different angles..... How many times have i said it?
http://www....
Lets just pretend that they are mostly true, Radeon 6770 aint a bad part actually. Sure enough it isn't likely to be anywhere near as fast as a new Xbox or PlayStation if they choose to be powerhouses, but it bests 360 and PS3 no problem.
You would get 1080p, with visuals similar to what 360 and PS3 can do. Slight improvements overall, bit like Ps2 to xbox. OR you could have 720p games, with a fairly nice improvement in assets and textures etc.
It would b...
Max Payne 3 DX11 @ 1080p with max settings and 4x MSAA uses 1.4GB of video memory. Even maxed WITHOUT any MSAA its around 1GB.
This is just the latest in a growing list of games on PC that can easily exceed 1GB video memory usage (Stalker, Civ 5, Metro, BF3, Crysis 2, The Witcher 2 etc etc) VIDEO memory alone, so no OS involved in this count. You want 1080p native games right next gen?
Seeing as though consoles with unified memory still have to balance their ...
