"360 and PS3 didn't thrash Xbox and PS2 out of the box so why would you expect any different for this gen?"
I'll stop you there as it is fairly obvious this statement is quite, quite insane. You clearly didn't have Xbox or 360 on launch like I did.
Before you even talk about quality of the texture assets in launch games of xbox 360, from the very kickoff it knocked out more than TWICE the resolution of ANY xbox games, even the PAL ones t...
Does anyone really think that Wii U shouldn't be thrashing 360 and PS3 from day one, out the box? Certainly I expected Nintendo to build something affordable, but in 2012 that should comfortably beat existing machines while not being too expensive to manufacture.
When you consider the kind of performance you get from a £65/$90 PC graphics card that comfortably beats out the consoles. A Radeon 6670 GDDR5 is plainly faster than 360 and PS3.
You can onl...
Buys 32GB flash drive for less than 15 quid.
Installs 3 discs on it with room left to spare on xbox 360.
Yawns, finds next article on N4G.
Its allllllllllll relative.
I am not sure it is really so horribly optimised. It isn't amazingly good either but considering the report on the console versions.....
The fact is, even 1280 x 720 on PC is in reality a significant boost over what the consoles are doing here aint it? That is a low res for most PC gamers but it is nigh on 50 percent MORE resolution by just meeting HD standard.
I still doubt very much you need much of a system ...
You would also have absolutely no point as PS3 was the reason GTA4 was actually delayed.
With GTA5 they would just give 360 a mandatory install like a bunch of other 360 games these days including halo 4 for MP.
Its hardly a big deal. I don't understand why anyone even cares about how many discs 360 games come on these days. Especially since you have been able to install to external drives for years now.
How much is a 32Gb flash drive? 10...
Technically PC wins it. PC blows the doors off considering that the consoles only do 880 x 720 and 2 x MSAA.
1080p on PC is more than 3 times that resolution. It is preposterously low rez on console.
The gap between 360 and PS3 still shouldn't be this big, but then you know it'll sell more on 360 so they obviously concentrated more on it.
880x720
Really.
Really???
When does the HD generation start again?
The GTA4 port to PC was poor and not only ran badly, didn't remotely exploit the hardware available properly apart from massively improved draw distances and sharper textures. Essentially it was just a massaged console port. At least it runs a lot better after the patches now and is easily the best version. Especially when you turn on something like FXAA. The console versions had blatant aliasing and slowdown but the PC version can be buttery smooth.
The engine however is...
Well Xbox 360 cost a little bit more when it launched end of 2005. It was close to cutting edge though, not as fast as a high end pc still but not very far away at all. I guess that might be why people think Wii U is a bit pricy because they remember that and others launching around this price point but with really modern hardware in it.
Thing is Microsoft did take a heavy hit on each machine sold, this is 7 years later and inflation sadly exists. So despite the less than st...
The xbox 360 install base has only gotten bigger since Reach, and since 3 massively. However I think a fair amount of people held off from Halo 4 as it is muchly similar to previous iterations and maybe waiting for the price to drop to justify it.
I know I am, after buying every Halo on launch including the first on xbox I decided I can wait now. I used to be a massive Halo fan but the sheen has just come off just a teeny bit for me personally.
I am quite su...
I think it still does. It doesn't have to rely on endless gimmicks to be a classic. Quality intriguing storytelling and voice acting, superb level design. Only the library is outright poor. Assault on the control room and the silent cartographer are epic. The simplicity of the gameplay is made to run and run because of the excellent balance of the controls and weapons.
In terms of single player I don't believe that any of the halo games afterwards are a match for it i...
Yup, lets see the chips being measured properly and lets have some proper power consumption figures when running. Let me know how noisy it is and how hot it gets.
I am nosy and wanna see how it stacks up finally I want a full on teardown.
CELL software emulation would indeed be viciously difficult if not near impossble on current x86 hardware because it is such a unique architecture.
You can pretty much take it as given that any PS4 is not going to software emulate PS3, and it'll need at least the CELL cpu lobbed in somewhere as hardware.
Again this is possible but I am not certain sony would bother with the added cost of it and if they did it would be the first thing to be cut again just ...
I don't mind a pro console article whatsoever, as long as it isn't filled with inaccuracies about PC gaming. Which this article is.
It is fairly obvious this article is mostly crap, just regurgitating and spouting useless plain old wrong information that attempts to make its point by misrepresenting PC gaming.
Every time an article says something like OH, YEW CAN ONLY PLAY DUH PC SAT AT A DESK AND SO I FIDGET DUHHHHH- that article should instantly be ...
I get tired of these articles. WHO KEEPS APPROVING THEM?
They are just full of the same old constant nonsense that has been long since debunked. Blah Blah:
PC GAMES ONLY LOOK A TEENY TINY BIT BETTER THAN CONSOLE VERSIONS
YOU CAN'T PLAY A PC EXCEPT FOR SAT ON A ROCK HARD TORTURE CHAIR USING A SMALL MONITOR
PC IS MEGA EXPENSIVE AND THE FACT THAT ITS GAMES ARE MUCH CHEAPER DOESN'T COUNT
EVERY PC GAMER I...
7970 isn't overkill, otherwise it wouldn't exist.
There is NO SUCH THING as graphical overkill if you want to make modern games. This is a fairly obvious statement, because I would quite happily bet you a trillion dollars that LESS than 5 years after the consoles are built, console devs will say that they could do with more RAM, or more GPU performance. You can never have enough power when it comes to an industry that still presses onwards relentlessly with more and m...
Errr for all the people who claim to know what they are saying....
For proper TRUE stereoscopic 3D to run at 60 frames a second you essentially have to render at 120 frames a second. One different frame for each eye.
If you think that you are going to get a visual improvement over the existing generation, 1080p, 3D AND 60 frames a second from anything less than a Radeon 7970 class GPU then you are dreaming.
You'll get 30FPS with a decent ...
Its pretty good but to be fair I don't think project CARS is that far off. By the time the game is complete it won't be.
I think if you use modern PC hardware you could build a game like that now but it'll only run well on the latest hardware.
Maybe if the consoles launch in a year this will be possible.
What exactly is 'win?'- better to define this first.
Do they mean sell the most or what the companies actually care about, make the most money. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo probably don't really care too much about whether they sell more than their competitors, just whether they make more money.
Sony's and Microsoft's objective really next gen needs to be not wasting a lot of money again, and making the division very profitable. This means...
I don't think it is currently a crucial problem. I mean, the console is brand new, so how many friends you gonna find and add immediately with a Wii U?
I would hope and expect that once Nintendo settle down and have a stable online system they will be able to increase the size of the list within a couple of years.
Pretty much what Microsoft did too. Seriously how many people are you gonna find with such a limited number of games right after launch?
