I think you have to give them credit for basically creating something brand new for and older machine about to be replaced. It is brave.

They could have easily knocked out another Uncharted instead take the money and run, just as we are seeing another Gears of War or another Halo but they didn't. They could have easily left this so you had to buy a whole new machine but they didn't.

I have high hopes for this game and with any luck they can carry it o...

They do if you want 2560 x 1440, or 3D vision (as I have) or multiple monitors.

I don't play PC games to play them like console paupers do, tssskk, I play PC versions cos I can go mad with the resolution or effects impossible on consoles.

It will be cheaper. It should be.

For less money. With a better cooler.

GTX680 is a very fast card. This is a bit faster.

Hardly sad.

Both Xbox one and PS4 have GPUs based off the Radeon 7k series.

We are fairly certain of their core configuration, but what we have heard from their clockspeeds come from unconfirmed reports. Those reports have been very accurate on everything else though.

The leak says that both chips will run @ 800mhz. This can actually be changed quite late in design (not by too much though) without problem.

Xbox one appears to have 12 compute units with 7...

The console GPUs used are just not very cutting edge performance wise, is all.

PS4's is by far the fastest, and its surely a little slower than a GTX580 that launched in late 2010. That card will be 3 years old by the time PS4 arrives.

So I don't expect the consoles to beat up PC. It will never really happen, because there is a signficant gap in performance already, long before the fastest console actually arrives.

That doesn't me...

Erm....you have used a PC right?

Have you used a PC once in your life by chance?

PC can do anything a console can do that is actually useful, and much much more in terms of functionality.

Motion controls are nothing but gimmicks, not features. PC has all sorts of gimmicks you can do as well, but I wouldn't exactly call them features.

Xbox one can't even actually do something as simple as record the TV it is holding so...

Chances are you'll see lazy ports onto PS4 just running more resolution and framerate.

Good ones will improve all the effects. Either way PS4 has more performance to have the best multis.

It is entirely likely we could see PS4 doing 1080p or close to it in most games, while Xbox one aims mostly for 720p titles.

Sony didn't show off their box when they announced their new machine. Major Nelson I believe said sarcastically 'that's one way to launch your new games console' referring to the lack of the box on display.

What was Microsoft way to show off their new games console? Show hardly any games? Dohhhhh!

I know I know. It isn't e3. But showing off a games console with hardly any games.....That is surely far more stupid way to launch a games conso...

It gets better.

When you have two machines that are quite closely matched in performance, but have greatly varying architectures, coding makes a huge difference. Taking advantage of each platforms strengths mean the other typically suffers if the game is not carefully crafted for its unique architecture.

This is the story of PS3 and Xbox 360 and all those multiplat games.

But a new chapter has begun.

Xbox One and PS4 are very...

AMD architecture calls for 64 threads per CU.

Ps4 therefore has 1152 threads. That is why it is 1.8 teraflop and Xbox is only 1.2. Ps4 has a GPU that is way faster . The leaks were correct. It also has something like twice the ROPS.

You are just making stuff up pretending ps4 has an inferior GPU. And your maths is terrible. If you are gonna make crap up at least manage to do 18 X 32 correctly!

Tentative specs from what I have gathered.

Xbox one:

1.6ghz 8 core AMD Jaguar x86 CPU

12 CU, 768 shader 1.2 teraflop AMD Radeon 7k based GPU

8GB DDR3 main system memory (68GB/s)

32mb ESRAM (102Gb/s)

PS4:

2.0ghz 8 core AMD Jaguar x86 CPU (25 percent faster)

18 CU, 1152 shader 1.8 teraflop AMD Radeon 7k based GPU (potentially 50 percent faster depending on prec...

8GB DDR3, 12 CU, 768 thread GPU in Xbox one. He said in this broadcast quite clearly, 768 GPU ops per cycle (meaning simultaneous threads I am sure). He also mentioned 6 ops per cycle for the CPU, in context he appears to mean the machine has 6 cores for developers of the 8.

PS4 has 50 percent more raw GPU performance, and A LOT more system wide unified memory bandwidth.

All those specs you saw rumoured about PS4 being quite a lot faster than Xbox one are tru...

Oh wow. This is the worst news of the entire announcement.

I wasn't too impressed with it, not enough games shown, but still open minded to what else they can offer later because E3 should be more games focused.

But this news is the sum of all fears, literally.

EA looked good for ditching online pass few weeks back, NOW WE KNOW WHY!

They got into bed with Microsoft, and came up with this together.

Uh oh. ...

Pfff. Fail article. PC pioneers most significant 'next gen' console technologies and advancements. I also don't believe of his definition of what next gen is, I'll explain and break this article apart by the end.

"You name me one mainstream game that is only playable on next-gen equivalent technology!"

Name one that was done on Xbox 360 but couldn't be scaled back to work on the previous generation? Virtually everything actually ...

Lol.

I think someone pulled some random specs out of thin air, contrary to the countless industry leaks we have been seeing for the past 6 months which have been pretty consistently saying the sort of performance we can expect.

All the leaks point to a machine about 2/3 as fast as PS4 with DDR3 memory and an AMD x86 CPU/APU. Slower, but easier to build and cheaper at retail.

The day before the thing is shown suddenly someone believes it'l...

The lineup would be good for any other console but there is some major flaws pointed out already in the list in this context.

It is the fact that a large amount of them are multiplatform, old multiplatform, and just as good if not better elsewhere on much cheaper machines to buy and own with much larger alternative game catalogues as well.

The incentive has to be made to buy the machine justify its purchase price, platform sellers, and very few of those games...
