My guess would be March next year.

6 months later like GTA4 did.

But we'll see. We can't have the PC version show up the console ones badly too soon after they launch can we?

Its just a rebranded 7970ghz and a tiny clock bump.

You would be better off getting an overclocked 7970ghz with the big game bundles while they are still around and discounted before the 280x knocks it off the shelves. It'll be better value and if you chose right you'll get more games with it.

The 290 are the only really 'new' parts out.

I am waiting for the 20nm cards in maybe 6 months because then we'll get an even bigge...

Stepless speed control (and no doubt some quality heatpipes) in action

Well the graphics are alright for War Thunder but yeah, they ain't exactly cutting edge amazeballs.

It isn't hard to max it on PC basically. PS4 SHOULD easily do max settings otherwise thats just disappointing as a 3 year old PC can do them!

There is no real 'default'. Different drives have different speeds and PS3 came with anything from 20Gb up to the 500gb of today- as well as flash memory as the main storage! Smaller drives are typically slower because they are older- they have lower platter densities and cache sizes, inferior seek times.

The older drives are slowest from the original machines, the newer ones will be faster. We are talking maybe 50mb/s sequential read speed for the oldest 20-60Gb driv...

Its ridiculous.

I think its mainly console gamers who know nothing about the PC scene, which is still dominated in terms of market share by Nvidia and Intel.

Games developers working on PC usually default to Nvidia hardware if they aren't paid to associate by AMD with AMD hardware.

This is simply because Nvidia hardware is more widely used and often runs better without specific driver optimisations.

Case in point was earl...

Tress FX is far more of a performance hog than Physx, and several games you can decide the setting for Physx anyway, medium or high on the Batman games for example.

I actually think these consoles will have a short lifespan. Well, shorter than the 8 years of Xbox 360.

If the world's economy has managed to recover a little bit more in 5 years then I think they will consider refreshing their machines sooner.

I'll also bet when they do whatever they replace PS4 with it'll run PS4's games again in backwards compatibility, because its such a straight forward design.

3 million in the UK alone? Erk. Thats more than 99 percent of titles sell worldwide

Not a lot of point comparing performance until the game is finished and both Nvidia and AMD have delivered Battlefield 4 spec drivers as they no doubt both will.

You have to remember its not nearly complete yet, some tracks look vastly better than others. I would say it won't be "out" for at least another 6 months. Forza 5 has probably already gone gold if not in the next week to make release.

For example Bathurst is one of the tracks that is closer to finished and because of that, looks insane especially in a storm.

If you have seen the best this game has to offer with more finished assets then you woul...

Tegra 5 is 20nm which means it is somewhat better on batteries.

To get the sort of performance we are talking about they are really pushing the limits of battery life, more power is good, but a lot of the time with smartphones it doesn't always seem worth the trade off.

I virtually always end up buying another battery or bigger battery if I can, and it affects my decision on an increasing number of phones whether I can actually do that instead of the dam...

They'll build the games the same and just use more resolution on PS4.

It'll be that simple. If they build it for 1920 x 1080 on PS4 they will use the exact same assets but run it maybe 1600 x 900 on Xbox one.

The exclusives will push the systems much harder and that is where we will likely see PS4 actually pull ahead on a visual level. We'll eventually see stuff on PS4 that Xbox one couldn't replicate.

If the game is 30FPS but is locked solid to it, no drops frames or tears, and the control response is totally consistent, I don't really care too much. This is the key to making a good 30FPS game.

The best games that tell a story like the best movies capture you and get you to suspend your disbelief. This is much more difficult if the technical aspects of the game get in the way.

Quality motion blur at 30FPS helps no end as well. We have some console game...

More is mostly best for GPU resources.

Especially when the system architectures have comparable design. I.e that is they are essentially from the same 'stable' in this case AMD Southern Islands.

There is probably a practical limit to the number of compute commands you could queue and utilise on the consoles compared to a super fast GPU like this.

But this particular detail surely favours PS4, it has a faster GPU, it has more Asynchron...

The fact is brand new console hardware isn't capable of doing the game in 1080p it seems, but a reasonable gaming PC is.

The next gen consoles are comparable to medium settings apparently.

On BF4 beta benches I have seen, a Radeon 7870 can do high @ 1080p and average pretty much 60FPS.

Thats a $170 card and thats on the beta, if the finished thing with finished drivers doesn't run quite a lot better like BF3 did from its beta to final...

I played Project CARS tonight, Bathurst in a thunderstorm. Its extremely demanding but looks utterly insane. Driveclub and Forza 5 aren't even close to be honest from what I have seen of them.

Talking perfect motion blur, loads of realistic 3D trees, super high resolution wet tarmac reflections, amazing shadows cast by spontaneous lightning bolts. Phenomenal water sheeting across the road and spotting on the paintwork of the cars. Incredible.

How to make time?

Fake your own death.

That's what I did and it was worth it to get ten consecutive minutes on GTA5 I would never have before.
