If you own a Pc from the last 7 or 8 years, whats the big deal? You are probably reading this on a Pc right? On the internet, with an internet connection? Or the moaners out there, posting using a Pc, on the internet?
Well done. You already have everything you need to get linux running as well but probably better than it did on Ps3 anyway...
'If that is how you want to play'
Cause and effect my dear boy. YOU are the cause. THIS is the effect.
Seriously hasnt he realised yet its HIS actions that has forced this play by sony? Its his fault, Sony are just trying to keep their system secure from the piracy blighting wii and 360. By keeping PS3 pirate free they vastly increase the attractiveness of their hardware to publishers and developers, isnt that what true gamers really want, an open system might be...
Surely surely surely i cant be more than six months or so away from getting my grubby hands on this. In the meantime my PS3 died today so i will have to ring up sony to get it fixed. Not even my house being on fire around me would stop me playing this
I particularly like this review because they focus heavily on all the Direct X 11 games out there. Thats what we really want to see with the launch of a DX11 card right? Every top end DX11 card is included, and minimum framerates which amazingly some sites do not include are there too. Minimum framerate is the most important figure IMO!
The problem is dude that we want differences in GAMES and not technical demonstration screens and benchmarks. The games so far that use it dont offer up a lot of noticeable differences much like early DX10 games, and just like early DX10 games the performance hit is absolutely enormous. 5870 struggles in metro 2033 DX11 as it is, forget actually using it with anything less like a 5750! Going from DX10 to the full on DX11 codepath halves performance, even for something like a GTX480. Ouchy. Af...
Not a good port at all.
Been on this since early in the beta again and have a maxed character. Its extremely addictive if you like golf games, impressive.
I been in the beta since day one early on and its not that amazing for me. It has improved quite a lot since then, there are lots of updates. But not improved as much as i would have hoped if im honest.
GT is sony's biggest franchise. Its sony's halo except well.....it has sold better than halo. Microsoft should fear this game more than anything in PS3's portfolio, because when it launches, PS3 sales will rocket and stay there for months afterwards.
This is the game changer. Of course.
Enabling the last set of shaders and a clock bump would actually bring a pretty good performance boost if nvidia get the silicon working better.
However thats likely what Ati have been doing the past six months. If 5870 had its core and memory clocks bumped 10 percent, shouldnt be all that difficult, then it would be extremely close to GTX480.
5890 anyone? 950mhz core + 5200mhz GDDR5 = GTX480 hurt
I wouldnt bank on that dual card coming anytime soon to beat 5970!!!
When GTX470 cant beat 5870 and uses going on 240 watts then you can forget a dual GPU board under the 300w PCIE limitation for graphics boards. Its just not possible without massively reducing the power consumption. Nvidia have no options for a dual GPU board and even if they COULD glue two 470 together it probably would not be faster than a 5970...
For people in the uk price/performance is appalling.
GTX480 is on a good day it seems 10-15 percent faster than 5870 and you pay for it with heat, temps and noise. It costs 50 (yes FIFTY) percent more than a 5870 for 300 pounds in the uk. Frankly even if it were the same money as the radeons the other issues are not at all favourable and would make me think twice about buying one.
GTX470 is slower than a 5870 and costs about the same, around 300 pounds. Its also ...
SLI 480 is good if you:
Are a millionaire
Own a powerstation
Use LN2 for cooling
Double agent port to PS3 was an absolute disaster, cut to shreds. Seeing as though they cant even seem to get this to run all that great on 360 and its an 'exclusive', God forbid the very idea they would then ALSO port it onto PS3 badly. Its probably better off its not coming to PS3.
I wouldnt be too keen to put 600w worth of graphics cards that run close to 100 degrees in one case an inch apart, even if i had the money to do so lol
Ati surely have been respinning their silicon to get it to work better on TSMC 40nm for all this time. They wont have been sat twiddling their thumbs since September after all. If Ati get their yields up and the design refined then i can see a 5890 appearing in a scant few months as a reply to the GTX480. With slightly upped clo...
This review is also the one where the results come out more favourable to the GTX4 than other reviews i have seen..
I have seen half a dozen reviews now and averaged out they point to the 450 pounds GTX480 being overall about ten percent faster than a 300 pound 5870. The 5870 beats up the 470 pretty badly for similar money. Whats worse is that the 470 barely sneaks in front of a 5850 which is 100 pounds less! However the geforces look considerably more competitive in some Direc...
Those GTX480 scores are pretty fail. Ouch. Its faster in the games that dont really matter, the ones where 5870 is already fast enough to manage 60 frames. The games that really matter being the ones that put the most load on the cards like crysis warhead, its no faster, in fact a tad slower. Oooof.
Then you have power consumption worse than a 5970, YES 5NINE70, and load temperatures smashing past 90 degrees the likes of which i havent seen since the X1900 series lol
MLAA can be done very well by something like CELL because it is nice and parallel. It would work fine on a modern GPU too if someone bothered to try and implement it, but it doesnt give that overall quality of MSAA. As with anything its a tradeoff. You can have some extremely smooth edges but others the filter completely misses or is poor on, fine pixel detail which is often the most noticeable form of aliasing for me. MLAA should be used more on PS3 i think because its really not very good a...

In the uk? quad core, 4GB memory, 4850, terabyte HDD, 64 bit OS, mouse and keyboard. The cherry on top? Bluray drive. 600 pounds? 500? 400? No sir. 380.
Awesome
