Rather than laying off staff Iwata did everything else he could to preserve Nintendo's development team AND keep investors happy. In fact during the 3DS fiasco he took a pay cut on his OWN salary. But no, let's fire him when HE'S the one who said "No, we're not laying off employees."

While I would say the issue is at times overblown, I really do not see the overall benefits of region locking for any big gamer.
To be fair, there's going to be around six or so games releasing until the end of the year starting in about a month.

Let me protect myself and choose what indie games to support. I don't need Microsoft looking out for me, especially since they were doing anything BUT that with their always-online and DRM policies initially.
Kickstarter, Wii U and PSN are much more effective ways for indies to get off the ground; just my view.
Not all imports are that expensive. But either way for Wii U it's not a huge issue right now because the western and eastern markets are all the same. As far as I know there are no games for Wii U that are exclusive to any one region, at least for the major three.
Well hey, I guess there's at least one M rated game to check out. Indies are really digging Wii U and Vita. Good job to both Nintendo and Sony in this regard.

The problem is not necessarily that Microsoft made the Xbox One unattractive (which they did, by the way). It's also that the system is largely not indie friendly. No self-publishing and supposedly riddled with the same types of issues indes faced with the Xbox 360.
It's not the console or Microsoft's handling that makes it a headache for indies, it's simply Microsoft's apathy for indie game development that makes them less viable.
Kamiya can prefer what he wants. As far as I'm concerned, he's a game design visionary. Hopefully the Wonderful 101 will be successful.

My thoughts exactly. Nintendo is working in a particularly strange way right now and as a fan it definitely sucks to see them in this state. I feel there's still time to turn it around, but at this point who knows how much can really be done?
