I don't remember hearing that... I'd better go rewatch the Direct(s) in January.
If we go by how Earthbound was handled, I don't think it will be a launch game for the GCN VC. They will definitely pioneer the feature with it though. We'll see what happens.
HD remake perhaps? Or maybe Virtual Console upload? Reintroducing this IP might be a good way to get a true sequel off the ground. Just a thought. I never got to play this one and everyone says what a great gem it was, so I'm interested in trying it out.
When the PS3's higher quality version is available and probably cheaper, why bother? This version was not even polished enough to call it a suitable port, let alone HD.
This release wasn't fair to Sony fans or the Vita system.
They both had crappy story modes. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned. Subspace was good for two things; some cutscenes you'll only ever watch a handful of times and unlocking all the characters. They handled the latter MUCH better in the first and second Smash game.
So yeah, it's pretty unnecessary.
Shame. The man gets a lot more heat than he deserves, I feel. I think he's just really poorly spoken. Too awkward to make his messages clear, you know?
Hopefully he can buckle down and get a grip on things. It would be a shame if he really never finishes his next game.
@matgrowcott
I get what you mean, but Fish is nothing like Blezinski. He's not the jock type with the job to end all jobs and an ego to match. Phil Fish is, for all acc...
If you want some laughs, go look at the Destructoid post about this. I've never seen more pointless fanboy tears since the Sonic 4 "Green Eyes" fiasco.
@rigbybot127
It's amazing really. I saw a lot of people using this as a reason to validate calling Sakurai a moron or 'out of touch with modern media' because of his reasoning for removing cutscenes.
For removing CUTSCENES. Animations that have no gameplay whatsoever....
As someone who loves Smash Bros. and doesn't care much for PS All-Stars, at least the latter had voice work and some form of a narrative.
Don't get me wrong, I think they were both crap. But Smash Bros.' attempt was nonsensical and poorly designed in a game where the standards should have been much higher. PS All-Stars also had the excuse of being the first game of the series (even if it did nothing but take elements from Brawl and MvC).
@GraveLor...
"The loss of content shouldn't be met with thunderous applause."
It should if it means potential dev time can be put forth to increase the amount of content or perhaps make sure that the online aspects of the game are not broken as hell like the last iteration. Classic mode is just as effective for beginners if not more so than Subspace. At least in Classic I'm not bored after an hour.
I could have told you that. "Anonymous sources claim Wii U is weaker than Xbox 360."
Now, regardless of what anyone thinks of the Wii U hardware, the reaction to those rumors is validation enough of what you're saying. Now the process is being repeated with PS4.
Unproven rumors sparked by anonymous sources who cannot back up the claim. And the fanboys/haters love to gobble that crap up like popcorn.
They used forgotten dungeon ideas in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, most likely. Or perhaps even in the DS Wind Waker style games.
It means we won't see a repeat of the bland and repetitive Subspace Emissary mode. The only positives of playing that POS was unlocking the roster and seeing the cutscenes. The process of actually playing it is egregious alone and barely tolerable with a friend.
No, it's a remake and not a port. Nintendo already confirmed it uses the assets of the next original 3D Zelda game.
Uh, yeah. I got that. Doesn't explain what the hell all of these disagrees are for. I just defended this feature not being prevalent in every game made.

It just goes to show how fickle this community can be.
The Gamecube's overall performance prompted a pretty big change at Nintendo. Given the Wii U's present performance, it may inspire change in later years as well. An optimistic view, but a possible one nonetheless.
People should really go and listen to this guy in some of his other interviews. He comes off as really anti-corporate, sure. But he has a really interesting vision on games, and I'm really glad we live in a time where the industries developers don't necessarily need a developer to make a successful and innovative new game (therefor making it easier for his team to produce them).
I really hope this article gets more heat. Not for the pro-Nintendo comment necessarily, b...
If I had four arms and two Wii U consoles I would certainly attempt to play both at the same time. :p
What I'm asking is whether to finish Earthbound or jump right into Pikmin.
"At the end of the day, other than the rabid wolves who are hungry to eat up any "negative" news for the PS4, I think the gaming community should be cautiously optimistic to see what Sony (and Microsoft; don't forget their own huge OS footprint) is going to do with all this RAM capacity."
Man, ain't that the truth.
Admittedly, I hadn't even heard about this until I logged in just now. It seems farfetched, given that this is pre...
Well, we've never seen horse stealth gameplay before.
Well, that's fine at the end of the day. The Wii U gamepad doesn't support off-tv play with all games. It's to be expected with features like these; they are secondary to the games that are developed for the systems.
If there's a bunch of games for them that you want to play, then heck yeah. Defective units (if any) should be covered by a warranty.
