I believe the units are one in the same, yes. I'm fairly certain the continent as a whole counts as the same region.
Some Googling I did on the topic led to a possible answer; the restriction is based on the NTSC/PAL system. Canada and US are both NTSC, so US games/consoles should be cross-compatible with Canadian units.

That's like arguing you get more if you pay $100 for the Xbox One, which only comes with Kinect and supposedly lower specs. It's not about the specs, it's about if the games and features appeal to you.
It will be in vain if they don't get the mass market to go for it though. I believe a $50 price drop coupled with a barrage of TV commercials for each new game that comes out can give the Wii U a necessary push.
Right now the Wii U needs some uniqueness, a marketing push so that it catches peoples' attention. Without that attention, no games or price measure will help it.

On the bright side, no half-baked story mode or cutscenes to impede on the development time. If you don't want him in, the best thing you can do is avoid signing the petition.
If people want him, let them. I honestly don't care either which way and if fans want him then why not? Wii Fit Trainer was added on the grounds that no one asked for her. May as well throw in someone who the fans really do want.
Um, the raising of the character limit happened over a month ago. The update primarily concerns the new tags.
Admittedly my own Wii U doesn't see a great deal of use either. But at least the games are coming out soon. Pikmin is out in less than a week in the US and Wonderful 101 and Zelda will come out in the following month.

This. I didn't mind the multi-platform. I expected it since the prequel was the same. Ubisoft's cowardice and stupidity have led to a horrid decision that has burned Wii U owners and has doomed this game to a sub par performance.
It's going up against Wonderful 101 and Zelda Wind Waker HD on Wii U. And it's going up against GTAV on PS3/360. If this game underperforms then Ubisoft is fully to blame.
But naturally there are those who are ignoran...

Only trolls would defend this stupid decision. They are the same package across all platforms.
Looks best on the Wii U Gamepad. 3DS should have a classic Gameboy skin and Vita should have a Playstation 1 controller skin.

To be fair, Troy Baker does a mean friggin' Joker in this game. I think he's much better than Roger Craig Smith as Batman.

Not competing with Sony and Microsoft is what made their previous console so successful. I'm not saying it worked this time, but the Wii was a cultural phenomenon in its day. Why wouldn't Nintendo at least attempt to replicate that success?
From how they handled it it didn't have a chance in hell of reaching that same success, but at least it makes sense why they did it.

Not even. I've played Ninja Gaiden 3, Assassin's Creed 3 and Black Ops 2 all online and they function about as well as Xbox Live and PSN minus party chat and an invite feature.
