There's a difference between an artist and a craftsman. An architect can be brilliant at his work but he himself may not consider it art. The same can be applied to video games since, just like an amazing chapel or church, you need to have incredible craftsmanship and a keen sense of design.

Nintendo doesn't need to see their work as art for them to still appreciate the creative nature of it.

I was talking mostly about the end-of-the-year lineup. The games coming out next year are far more open and eclectic.

Frankly I'm surprised by the 9 disagrees. I was just trying to be honest about the situation.

I was thinking something similar. I really hope Nintendo fans buckle down and really try this one out. The console and the developer both need the support.

Fairly eye-catching too. Since they can't get people with families like the old Wii ads, why not a charming character to show you what's up?

Probably not a killer app, but it's a nice plus for anyone who plays online games. Assuming Wii U gets more of those.

I have no doubts in Platinum's ability. Whether or not this game sells well, it'll probably be damn good.

Well for Nintendo fans at least. If people don't have an interest in Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Donkey Kong or a new IP then they probably won't get a Wii U for some time, if at all.

I personally think the lineup is decent at best and worst. Nothing massive, but hey, six good games in such a short span of time is no skin off my nose.

Considering the world she had to survive in, who could blame her for being so aggressive with the knife?

I'd buy that.

Considering Nintendo kicked their own asses into high gear and are having a game release every month starting today, yeah, I'd say they're now taking development very seriously.

Oh look, the "kiddie" argument. Tell me, how mature does your copy of Gears of War or Black Ops 2 make you feel?

If they want to commit financial suicide, sure.

Just produce the Wii U in low amounts and let those who want one get one. If the demand increases then so can the manufacturing. Sell the thing at a profit so as to at least make some money back, similarly to how they handled the N64 and GCN.

If five years time they can think about having new hardware on the scene and hopefully they will reevaluate how to handle its launch.

I doubt it was lying. Perhaps preemptive optimism? At the time their management was not exactly on equal footing for both handheld and console departments. They have also come out and stated that for a time the 3DS was the sole focus of their developers leaving the Wii U dry.

I would imagine if they truly plan to avoid making these "no games at" launches again, it will probably be the following generation.

Wow. Reading comprehension. You're in need of it. I specifically stated it's NOT a big thing that PSAS borrowed from Smash Bros.

No kidding it's a genre. I never said Nintendo owned it. I never said Nintendo got to it first. I merely said PSAS probably should have deviated more from it to be a BIGGER game. That's it.

I don't see how you can possibly not see any resemblance between PSAS and SSB or MvC for that matter. It was a 2D brawler with a variety of mascots limited to a particular brand and the object of the game was literally to knock each other about and raise the damage counter. In fact, exactly like Smash Bros., the more your character was hurt, the farther back they would fly! How is that not the same? Furthermore, it used a power meter with three attack levels that was dependent on how much...

@Shad0wRunner

Oh, so there are written rules for what you can or cannot do in this industry now, is that it?

If all game companies had the same mentality as this, the industry in its current form would have crashed eons ago.

Nintendo's console has lower specs than the competition; so what? So did the PS2 and PS1. So did the Wii and DS. All of those were major winners in their respective generations.

Specs don't decide...

Even masters may not see their work as art. Hideo Kojima is considered by many to be a cinematic/game design genius and he's gone on record to say that games are not art.

It's all subjective in the end. If you think games are art, then they are. In their cases, it's something else.

"Creating is like an expression of egoism. People with a strong energy to create something have a 'this is the strength I believe is right' sort of confidence to start from. Their standpoint is that 'this is the right thing to do, so this must be what's good for the customer as well.' But the final goal of a product is to resonate with and be accepted by people. You can't just force your way through. By saying 'the point is to be accepted' I mean, if you g...

It would have needed to be a different game though. Some of the problems with PSAS are as follows.

1. It seems like they didn't even try to hide the fact that it had a lot of influence from Smash Bros. and Marvel vs. Capcom. If there is a sequel, they should try to make its battle mechanics a little more original. I've argued before that Sony should have gone for a 3D brawler approach akin to Anarchy Reigns or Power Stone since none of the characters in the roster wer...
