Isn't use of the screen on the controller optional? Couldn't developers just as easily choose to either leave the screen off altogether or (better yet) use it for playing the game on the screen?

The Wii U gamepad IS its Classic Controller Pro but with a screen in the middle. Why not simply map the controls how they see fit and simply use the screen for the previously mentioned features?

This is why I believe there is a massive difference between the W...

One thing remains constant though. Your bubble count will continue rising lol. Couldn't help but notice. :P

Because not everyone is Sony. /s

Well, part of it is that games like Borderlands already exist. Ruined wasteland like Fallout, online free-roaming four player coop like Dead Island. Borderlands took a bunch of elements and threw them together to create something with some relatively original ideas.

That and it would take a big budget studio to make a clone of any popular game gain any sort of real ground. Compre Sony's Playstation All-Stars to Capcom'...

That argument could be used for any developer making games for a new Sony or Microsoft console. What's your point?

I was going to leave a longer comment, but I think you both just did it for me. Bubbles for you both good sirs.

Actually no, there is no hypocrisy on my part. I believe that gameplay comes first and graphics come second. That has NOT changed.

The fact that we might have games running at 1080p is simply a plus, it doesn't make or break anything in terms of the games themselves.

Why? Everyone seems keen on taking anonymous sources that claim the Wii U is weaker than current generation consoles at face value. Why not this one?

Besides, this came from someone who went to a Nintendo related event who asked the representatives there what the resolution was. According to them, Batman and Assassin's Creed were 1080p.

I'll take the word of a rep working for Nintendo over "anonymous sources" any day.

Considering how large the losses Sony has been taking lately have been, I commend them for remaining in the hardware race.

Sony leaving hardware would be just as detrimental as Nintendo since Sony is interested in pushing hardware to its limits. Nintendo focuses on innovation while Sony focuses on evolution and both experiences wind up being worthwhile.

Micrsoft... they have Halo I guess?

People said the same thing about Halo, yet there are FPS games that came out after that were both great and influential.

Just because you have a favorite doesn't mean that new and amazing experiences can't come after.

Right. Because everyone will be up and ready to spend $1000-2000+ for 2K and 4K resolution TVs. Especially since 1080p already looks really crisp.

4K resolution may be the next big thing, but as long as it remains expensive (which is how it will undoubtedly start out) it will not take off right off the bat. It happened with Blu-Ray, I'm sure it'll happen with this too.

Not gonna lie, I was in that same boat. Interesting read when it boils down to it.

Well, it gives developers a cheap incentive to port current generation games to Wii U. Obviously how this applies to the next generation Sony and Microsoft consoles remains to be seen, but for at least the next couple of years, this will work very much in the Wii U's favor if true.

Here's why I think so. A game is often pretty expensive to develop. According to EA a big budget title needs to sell several million copies in order to make up . So if you can then port ove...

Use Smash Bros. as an example of Nintendo attempting to branch out.

Nintendo had Marth and Roy of the Fire Emblem franchise in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Lo and behold Fire Emblem games started coming to the US during that generation and onward.

Notice how Fire Emblem is not a mega seller. In fact, the announcement of the latest game on the 3DS was casually mentioned by Reggie Fils-Aime AFTER the E3 presentation.

I've made this point before...

If that's specifically responding to the second paragraph in my comment, let me rephrase; the CPU in the Wii U is based on the POWER7 model. When you compare that to the CPUs in the 360 and PS3, is largely superior due to it being much more modern technology alone. According to IBM it's also a multi-core and is described as having "a lot of eDRAM cache."

If the GPU winds up being anywhere close to being as modern as the CPU, then I can't see how anyone c...

And yet despite both of their super powered consoles coming out earlier than the Wii, their console was a mega-seller. Those same circumstances may not repeat with the Wii U, but it's still gotta count for something.

"Why not, a little competition is fun,"

I'd imagine that's why Microsoft made Kinect and why Sony made Move.

This is part of the problem between E3 and the Wii U news dry-spell. Now damn near every article talking about the Wii U's specs is speculation, whether it's spun positively or negatively.

Not to mention all of the misinformation... the only comment on the article itself claims the Wii U has a "weaker CPU" than current generation consoles. A Power-based CPU cannot ever be weaker than six year old hardware. Anyone who knows anything about specs knows that.

So it has nothing to do with how good the games are, just whether or not it's a new IP?

If anything I think it should be seen as a testament that Nintendo has managed to keep Mario alive and very healthy for the past 25+ years.

5086d ago 4 agree0 disagreeView comment

Oy. Let the mudslinging begin.

I would agree with the sentiment if only because every Nintendo makes is always polished to a brittle shine. Take Wind Waker's graphics or the fluidity of Mario Galaxy's gameplay for example. There's more I could list but it would make the comment ho on forever.

Yeah, yeah, I know I'll be accused of being an obsessed fanboy. I guess if that's how people wish to debate then that's fine. But what can I say ...

I disagree with that header somewhat. Last Story and Kirby's Anniversary game are due this year. A few months after that the Wii U will come out. After that, then yeah, I believe the Wii will be dead.
