All they need to do to "win" is succeed in making a profit. Just like Microsoft succeeded in the previous two generations and just like how Sony succeeded for the previous three, even with the rocky start for the PS3.

Not to excuse the software drought the Wii U has been in for the past couple of months, but backwards compatibility is indeed good for something in this regard.

Monster Hunter Tri really shouldn't be on this list. 3 Ultimate comes out THIS month. Unless of course you just want a cheap Monster Hunter game; in which case, knock yourself out.

Kinda saddened that Muramasas: The Demon Blade was not listed. That one was pretty cheap when I nabbed it off of Amaz...

Those would not be called ports then. They would be called exclusives. But yes, I agree with you in that regard. Software will move hardware, period.

Man, this game is generating a ton of hype quite quickly it seems. If this winds up being like Aliens, I'll be flabbergasted.

I agree with this comment almost completely. Though I was curious as to what you meant about Tomb Raider not being like an installment in its own franchise. It seemed like a TR game to me, just darker with a greater emphasis on cinematic storytelling.

EDIT: @Root below

I haven't seen much of the game since its E3 unveiling where Lara was trying to escape from some cave. It actually had the elements you were referring to; swimming, puzzles, etc. They intro...

@bothebo

Of course you don't. You need only look at your comment history to understand that.

Your thoughts are, needless to say, completely wrong when the 3DS and its software are selling as strongly as they are and New Super Mario Bros. U is among the games with the highest attachment rate on the Wii U.

Also the bulk of iPhone/Android games are not really meant for gamers. They're meant for average Joes who wish to have a quick littl...

It seems that way. Even Nintendo has embraced the concept of rereleasing an old classic on a new platform.

As long as there is a point to the rerelease and does something both respectful to the franchise and also provides something a little new, I'm happy.

Well, that and because they're a household name with some very successful franchises/trademarks/etc.

The Wii is extremely cheap and currently has more Mario games than the Wii U. I was working at a small Gamestop over the last holiday season and a lot of people were buying Mario games on the Wii. A LOT of Mario games; from Galaxy to New Super to Party to even some of the sports titles. A lot of these games are cheaper. At the time the Wii U and its games were brand spanking new. It goes to show, price is very influential.

I think on this we agree. Naval missions were an okay break from the usual "work" in ACIII, but I wouldn't want nearly half the damn game to consist of such a slowly paced and simplistic activity.

Here's the thing. It didn't affect anyone but those who bought it until outlets like EA and Capcom started taking content out of the game and forcing consumers to buy them under the guise of DLC. It's complete garbage in that regard.

I'm not saying DLC can't exist; I actually love the concept of expanding your favorite game with cheap downloads. The problem is how badly the system gets abused.

4878d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

Because it's cheaper, has a large number of games on it and therefor people want to buy one?

Oh my god! They killed MNGamer-N!

4878d ago 4 agree0 disagreeView comment

The problem is micro-transactions have been abused since the infamous horse armor in The Elder Scrolls IV.

Back when you could not download new content, they used to release cheap add-ons and called them expansion packs. Few console games did this, but many PC games did it successfully.

When you put something into a game through DLC, it should be fairly priced and not something that either is or could have easily been placed in the disc. Gears of War 3's ...

Er, the Assassin's Creed games before DID have loads. When you crossed between regions the game would have to stop and load the next region.

Not sure about the other games, but I know for certain that ACII and III both had loads between the cities and what not.

A significant graphical upgrade, all DLC in the disc and some brand new content would be the only way to get me to pick up a package of that nature.

Charging full price for a port of game that's only a few months old is one thing, but over two years old? That's extremely questionable.

How is Nintendo irrelevant? They've existed as game company for around three decades, revived the market after it crashed and changed the course of the past generation by introducing motion control to mainstream consoles. You probably wouldn't be playing a PS3 or expecting a PS4 if it wasn't for Nintendo's history.

New Super Mario Bros. U on the Wii U has one of the highest attachment rates to the Wii U console, so Nintendo's franchises can sell just fine....

The PS3 was also released in a far more stable economy and on top of that was losing Sony hundreds of dollars on every unit made. Not such a case is happening with the Wii U or any of Nintendo's previous console.

Nintendo's E3 2012 showcase was far from a disaster. It was an unbelievably standard show with far too many expectations riding on top of it. People expected Star Fox HD; what they got was Nintendo Land. It was okay at best and immensely disappointing at wors...

Huh. Interesting numbers to say the least. The 3DS, 360 and PS3 are selling pretty damn well, and the Wii U seems to be hanging on just over the Wii.

Gotta give Animal Crossing credit. It's only out in Japan and yet it made the top five best selling software with worldwide numbers.

Some of the suggestions in the article are nice, but I'd argue CoD hit the point of fatigue at least a couple of years ago.
