there are so many great games per year nowadays that it's almost unethical to pick just one to be lifted above others... and there never is any definite Game of the Year anyway, since many different publications and organizations pick their own. how many GOTY editions of games are we getting this year again? 3 or 4 at least?

i may be becoming too cynical, but im just not feeling this game :/ and im no anti-COD elitist, i f*cking loved COD4. but so far what i've seen from this game.. something just feels off. i remember like half a year ago Infinity Ward kinda implied they were out of ideas, and asked fans to submit theirs... so now im left feeling that they didnt have any ideas of their own and just started adding in what fans wanted to see: snowmobiles and dual wielding and deathstreaks and all kinds of random s...
the only thing you'll EVER lose are souls, and later on they're not important at all. AND you can't lose a million souls to an invader, i've had a million or more souls on me many times and got killed by an invading black phantom, it only removes like 200,000 souls and i'm still left with most of what i had. no biggie. you can grind that 200k back in a couple minutes, if you know how and really want to (i dont, souls dont matter anymore because im high enough level).

for me it's 100/100 and the best game i've played this gen (i thought nothing could beat Fallout 3 for me, i LOVE that game).
but i completely understand if some people might score it lower. i mean, it can be very difficult. and there are some other things that some people might not like.. but for me all those things fit in the game perfectly (like no voice chat, it would break the game somewhat).

IMO it's not, because ripping off usually isn't blatantly obvious, ripping off is done sneakily and without putting it clearly out there for everyone to see. this is so obviously Zelda-like that it's most likely an homage to Zelda. a respectfully done nod to the game series. while still being it's own unique game (judging by the graphics at least).

i only tried the PS3 version, but it had some pretty bad framerate issues, and accessing in-game XMB during the demo made the game freeze every time for like 10-20 seconds (not kidding)... unacceptable. i hope that's not an issue in the full game.
i liked the game though, felt fresh and was genuinely funny at times (and humor is VERY hard to do well in games).

i was on the fence about importing the asian version for like 2 months... and boy was i stupid. the game is incredible, all my doubts were silly now that i think back.
and remember, the game is not too hard! it can even be easy as pie, if you summon help! so dont worry about difficulty, you WILL get through the game (i did 5 times with an ever increasing difficulty, and im not the best gamer ever).
the darkness is AWESOME. you never know whats lurking in there... in fact, i cant think of any other game that uses darkness as well as this game. maybe there was a Silent Hill game that did it better, but i cant recall (and i've played all of them).
i think most people are looking at this whole "what fanboys are the worst" issue from the wrong perspective...

i would highly recommend Renchi.com for the asian version.
i dunno about importing the US version to Europe though, if that's your situation... but the versions are the same pretty much, the only difference is separated servers and better translations in the US version.
awesome to see this game getting recognized. and all gamers BETTER recognize, because Demon's Souls is f*cking brilliant (300 hours behind me).
i put it in my top 5 games of all time, among Doom, FFVII and such. it might even be THE best game i have ever played in the 20 years i've been gaming. i love it so hard.

i have to say though that i absolutely DESPISE the practice of paying for timed exclusives. that's downright f*cking evil treatment of the consumer. it's like they deliberately mislead people into thinking that a certain game is not coming out on the "other" system, so people buy the only console they think they are going to be able to play it on... like many people in Japan bought an Xbox for Tales of Vesperia. and now they are pissed... gee i wond...
easy platinums are totally pointless though. i'd prefer a lot of trophies that actually take skill to achieve... like Wipeout HD. separate the casual from the hardcore :)
who the hell would make trophies like that? 1st in the world in multiplayer..? are you kidding me? i love online trophies myself and have never seen anything that bad, not even close.
if you were referring to Killzone 2 then thats wrong, you only had to be in the top 1 PERCENT to get the trophy, which is rather easy.
well... that didnt exactly make me want to go buy an Xbox 360. am i too demanding? i would love to hear of some awesome totally new groundbreaking game, that would make me buy the console.
Mass Effect trilogy would do it, but i have a PC that i'm going to upgrade (finally!).
