well, it's an open-world game, it's to be expected. every single open-world game has an install on PS3. why that is, i dunno. (if someone can explain i'd like to know).
if you doubt me, just consider:
FC2, AC1, GTAIV, Infamous, Prototype, Saint's Row 2, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and so on... hell, even Skate and Skate 2 have a big install. i can't think of a single sandbox-type game that doesnt require an install.

also the standard HDD helps, for example Uncharted 2 caches a lot of stuff on there (but doesnt require an install).

i think Uncharted and Uncharted 2 are both overrated, i think people are just so dazzled by the amazing graphics that they get a bit carried away.
i played Uncharted through once and wasnt impressed by anything else other than graphics, which is really not enough for me. i remember playing Tomb Raider on PS1 and being way more amazed, by the level design and puzzles and enemy variety etc... Uncharted was just INCREDIBLY boring in all these aspects.
