Developer salaries have gone up. In Japan average salaries have gone from $57k to $71k since 2015 (when Tekken 7 released)
Salaries have increased 24% in 8 years. Even if Tekken 8 had the same production team as Tekken 7 it would cost 24% more to make. Games aren't priced 24% higher
Now if Tekken 8 was made with less people than Tekken 7 they'd be...laying people off
That is exactly what it means. London Studio was basically behind all their VR technology
He said it was 50/50 like 4 days into release. Been nearly 2 weeks since then so I wouldnt be surprised if the split changed over time
Wonder what kind of guns we'll be using in Hogwarts Legacy 2
They popularized multiplayer on consoles (also paid internet which can be argued as a bad thing)
They were the first console with a hard drive, which was a huge innovation at the time
They were a huge supporter of early indies and helped titles like Braid receive mainstream exposure
They helped bring franchises like Fable, Gears, and Forza to market. Gears popularized the 3rd person cover system and neat mechanics like active reload. Fo...
They straight up can't reach that goal. They need to triple subs in the next 3 years and they havent even grown at all in the last 2. Subscription growth for PS+ has stalled too. Global recession at play here. It's why both MS and Sony are exploring new strategies
Jim Ryan on Starfield not being on PS5: "I'm not exactly sure who it helps."
This is Microsoft PR at work. They let the fervor around the rumors die down enough and then once people go through the stages of grief and get to acceptance, Microsoft comes out and confirms the multiplat rumors. It's still the biggest shift in the industry in over 20 years, but its old news now so not a big deal.
They literally bought half the industry then laid it off
Of course it'll work with Xbox. Every device is an Xbox now anyway
I dont even know why people are making a "competition" between these games. Theyre both from 2 small independent studios whose expectations were already blown way out of the water and they're infinitely happy with their levels of success.
Palworld has an ending and came out a month ago, the fact it's losing player count really says very little.
I remember when The Finals was a CoD killer too
I think word of mouth on Helldivers has been better but no way will it "kill" CoD
It would take something absolutely huge to kill CoD, like a 3 trillion dollar company or something
Looks like a patch is already out that fixed a lot of PC issues with crashes and matchmaking. If the devs can get this sorted out by tomorrow at the latest going into the weekend they'll be alright. The word of mouth so far seems pretty positive.
Problem with live service co-op games is they are a dime a dozen, and the initial impressions are extremely important. If these issues don't get ironed out asap the game is never going to hit its peak
Pretty sure thats Skull and Bones...
Their acquisitions are too big to support with exclusive games. Activision alone had an operating expense of $6 billion in 2023. Thats nearly twice what GamePass brings in annually (revenue, not profit). Add Bethesda and all of XGS to the mix and they literally can't afford to support all these studios on the revenue they make from Xbox+PC.
I don't think Xbox will stop making hardware, but my guess is ABK and Bethesda games are all staying multiplat while XGS stuff ...
Just in time for Stellar Blade
Yeah the FTC is a paper tiger. I doubt that has anything to do with this decision at all. Someone probably just crunched the numbers with Satya and they told Phil to take all the previously multiplat games they bought and make them multiplat again
The guy who initially leaked all this is now saying COD isnt even coming to GamePass either
Everyone hates GAAS except for the GAAS they play
