I'm not giving this a click.
The way the story is structured is fantastic. You have the long, over-arching Joel-and-Ellie story, but the game itself is really broken up into episodes: the backstory, the escape from the QZ, the events in Boston, Bill, Sam & Henry, etc. You feel like you're seeing individual pieces of Joel and Ellie's journey, but you know there's other stuff going on that you're not seeing. It's like you're sitting around a campfire with Joel and he's recalling these eve...
I won't even touch the online part until I've finished off all the SP trophies, which will end up being four playthroughs (Normal just to enjoy the story, Hard to get more practice and do the collectables, then Survivor and Survivor+).
I know I don't technically need that Hard playthrough, but it's a great game and I want the additional run so I don't have to mess with collectables while working my way through Survivor. (I'm about 2/3 of the way throu...
I hate Kinect as much as the next guy, mainly because it seems like a gimmick every single time developers incorporate it into a game. But if anybody is going to find a creative, non-gimmicky way to use Kinect, it will be Kojima. I'm very interested in seeing what he comes up with.
Brilliant ending. It's basically The Godfather in a radically different setting. This is the first video game I've ever encountered that actually merits seriously literary discussion. Naughty Dog should be proud of this game.
It was a good game, but not even close to "one of the best games of this gen." Solid 9/10 IMO, but let's not go overboard here.
I hate to say this, but Titanfall is the only next-gen game I saw at E3 that I could see being a gigantic smash hit, like a COD or Gears. It has "mass appeal" written all over it.
I'm with you that I'd rather play MGSV or Watchdogs than this, but I can seriously see people who are on the fence about buying a next-gen console making the jump for Titanfall.
Terrible article. Yes, developers are free to make games however they want, and they're free to tell the stories they want to tell how they want to tell them. Just like how authors get to write the books they want to write and directors get to make the films they want to make.
And guess what? I'm free to criticize an author for writing a lousy book, and I'm free to criticize a director for screwing up a movie. If games want to be taken seriously as vehicles fo...
No, but let's be honest. Did anybody here REALLY believe that multiple people were going to be allowed to play the same copy of the same game at the same time? That should have been firmly in the "too good to be true" category.
If Microsoft really wants people to be able to share games this way, they could put this magical policy back in place tomorrow, at least for people who buy the game digitally. This doesn't depend on DRM -- you just need digital del...
If you don't like stealthy gameplay, that's fine. It's just a matter of personal preference. That doesn't change the fact that this game is a 10, in the sense that it that is in the absolute upper tier of games made this generation. Nobody says you have to like the genre, but you ought to be able to appreciate the game for what it is.
As an alternate example, I really don't like racing sims. But I can definitely see that the Forza and GT franchises hav...
This is the first time I've heard about the "family sharing" feature just being 15-60 minute demos. That makes a lot more sense than what people were talking about before (being able to pass around the full game to 10 different people).
It's $100 more and you're stuck with Kinect. I would actually be willing to pay more for a system without Kinect because then I would know that developers weren't wasting their time on motion-control games and were devoting resources to games I actually want to play instead. For example, imagine if Crytek had developed another installment of Far Cry instead of Ryse.
Basically with the Xbox, you're paying an extra $100 and in return you actually get *fewer* h...
I wasn't buying an Xbox One anyway. But it's still good to see this crap going away. Competition is good for gamers, so even though I have no interest in the Xbox, it's good that Microsoft is staying in the game.
I think Naughty Dog has already said that we won't be seeing Joel or Ellie in a sequel, if there is one.
I'm a little conflicted about that. These are two of the most fleshed-out characters that have ever appeared in this medium, so I'm kind of sad to think that we won't see them again.
Having said that, I don't know what else they can possibly do with Joel and Ellie. Their story ended the way it did and there's really nothing el...
Everybody said this game was shite, but it was really more like garbage. So you see, it was underrated.
"Unfortunately, The Last of Us fails to continue Naughty Dog’s stunning streak of self-imposed excellence."
Couldn't disagree more. Having finished it last night, I think this is probably the single best game I've played this generation. It's not as light and breezy and Uncharted obviously, but the combat is gripping and intense, and the story actually treats me like a grown up. Great game.
I'll need to time to let everything sett...
It's like that now. The Last of Us is $60 if I buy the digital version on PSN. Digital delivery didn't reduce game prices one cent on consoles this generation, so I'm not sure why anybody would expect things to be different next gen.
I know that personal opinion plays a heavy role in these things, but I don't see how you can do a Top 12 list for the PS3 that doesn't include GOW3 and at least one Uncharted. Even if you're not a big fan of those genres, they'd certainly be on any list of games you'd recommend to a friend.
I hadn't read any reviews of this game prior to popping it in (didn't want anything spoiled), so I had no idea that this prologue even existed. Needless to say I was blown away.
Great opening.
I have to agree with this. I mentioned in another thread that Titanfall is the only game shown at E3 that I could see being a mega-hit that moves consoles. But that's because it aims very squarely at lowest common denominator of the video game industry. I think this is going to be a hugely successful game for Respawn, but there's not much risk here aside from the ordinary risk that always comes along with a new IP.
