Please, no?
I hope they have a lot of royalty free music on it. Acting as conductor for Glenn Miller or Beethoven pieces would be fun.
But I'm a nerd.
"disagree" means that you disagree with what I'm saying. It's intellectually impossible to disagree with what I wrote. But carry on, muttonheads, don't let me stop your flame war.
I'll just bring up my objection. This is not about "rival DVD" this is about "rival HD-DVD", or perhaps "rival high-definition disc format".
These are two different things, and the title is misleading.
Not that it matters. All you guys are interested in is flame wars.
It probably is a real failure. I had a failure in my BD drive. When it came back from getting fixed, I started it and forgot to put the HDD in. (It took 9 days - apparently you have to vacuum the thing to keep dust out? I didn't know.)
Everything started up fine, but when the PS3 registered that there was no HDD inside I got a message saying, "Put an HDD in, retard." There were no yellow lights.
He "exclaimed" this, did he?
Do people not read these things before they approve them? Is this not an English language website?
Sometimes you people really make me worry about the state of education.
This is idiot proof. You can't mess up anything. Unless you have managed to gain access to the higher functions of the PS3 OS, and no one else has yet, you can't do anything bad. Sony supports this fully.
As to why you would do it, the answer is simple.
The PS3 with linux installed is basically a PC that costs $400 and connects to your television to use for word processing, internet, music, and email. That's it. Nothing spectacular, but nothing to shake a stick...
I want this game more than I've wanted any game since GTA3.
I'm going to be the guy that blows up every destructible object in the map before I even start shooting at other people.
I apologize. I'm going to be that guy.
Seriously. I'm sorry.
Basically it acts like a slow PC, except on the TV. You can do almost anything on the PS3 that you can do on a regular Linux install.
But you do end up with two types of limitations. The ones you get from Linux, and the ones you get from the PS3.
The Linux limitations are that you can't play PC games without third party software, and even then it doesn't work very well. That's about it.
The PS3 limitations are a bit bigger. Because Adobe haven't...
It's taken me 20 years, but I have definitely and completely mastered Super Mario Brothers.
And maybe Arkanoid.
Edit: Phantom disagrees!
No one is hacking, installing Linux just means we're adding something that acts like Windows Operating System (OS) to the PS3, and it only involves putting a CD in the Blu-Ray tray. You couldn't screw up the PS3's OS unless you took a sledgehammer to it because it's protected.
Give it a shot. It's frustrating and fun.
Ubuntu probably won't be much better for you, if you're just using it for music and movies. Once you have it set up, it works great, but it takes time to get it ready. Anyway, now that the PS OS can play divx and xvid, you don't really need linux to play those files anymore.
You can do everything from email to music to word processing to web surfing just on the PS3 OS. Linux may not be for you.
Edit @ Rice and cjp4eva: Google is your friend.
It will use between up to about 4GB, depending on how many programs you install. The 10GB space is absolutely enough, but even so, I use an external 250GB HDD. I can use that with both my PS OS and Linux.
As to which one is better, I've used both Ubuntu and Yellow Dog, and while I have a bit of a bias towards Ubuntu, the Yellow Dog version works just fine. I had no problems.
edit: No problem, dude. Try both and see which one you like best.
It's a great game, but it's only for group playing. And it sold great in Japan.
I don't mean to say that in game music isn't cool. It'd be great to play uncharted while listening to AC/DC. I'm just not that worried about it.
@Skerj
You mean they asked you to buy one, or they asked to use your account to buy their own? I bet it was someone who got kicked from PSN.
Edit: Oh my God. That's hilarious. I can't believe that someone would have the balls to beg for something like that.
I think I'm the only PS3 owner who doesn't care about in game XMB. It would be nice to have my own music to listen to, but I don't need it.
<begin_random_rant>
Does anyone else get random messages from unknown people who ask to be added to your friends list? It seems like people just randomly invite every single person they see in a game JUST to make their friends list bigger. I think people have misunderstood the meaning of the word friend. If I don't know you, I ...
This sucks. The game doesn't even come out for me until the end of the month, and then it'll be at brand new prices.
Did the 360 version come out earlier in North America, too?
Me too, I'm a 32 year old kid.
There already is a Olympic game for Wii, and I bet that was why it hasn't been developed for the Nintendo platforms. It's purely economic.
We need a "report hyperbole" button.
FF is famous, but it ain't the Beatles.
