The only reason Vista is selling so much in most countries is because the big companies refuse to sell people computers without an OS.

Come back to me when there's an operating system that has gained share in the market because of its inherent value, rather than one that has been forced into the marketplace due to backroom deals with computer manufacturers and big retailers.

"enough of the guitar hero vs real guitar. We already know they are different."

Totally. Playing a real guitar requires skill.

I think he's talking about Cedega's streaming program, which runs in Linux but costs money for a subscription. Linux is free, but you can pay money for a DVD that comes with support and stuff.

If they weren't so stupidly expensive I'd go more often. The 360 degree gundam machines are still awesome though.

And it allows you to write computer code to make applications for other computers, it allows you to write software for PS3 linux, and lots of other geeky stuff. Really, if you're not that geeky, you may not really want it now because you can do pretty much everything the average person's computer does online (not the average gamer's, the average person's).

It is a lot of fun to learn it though. If you feel a bit adventurous, give it a try. Working knowledge of Linux looks good ...

...if you don't have a home PC.

However, we can get most of the basic services we want online through the PS3 browser - googledocs, gmail/yahoo/hotmail, and little time-killing flash games - so if that's all you want it for, you don't need Linux. If you want more control over your documents, the ability to compile code, and the chance to learn a pretty cool operating system, you should try it out.

You only bought 0.1 PS3s? Are you sharing it with ten friends or something?

Most hackers are in it just to see if they can break it. The problem is that most people who will use the hacks after they are designed are only interested in pirating games.

Hackers may have a worthwhile goal, but they are responsible not only for what they do with their hacks, but also for what people do with the hacks that they design.

Regardless, it will be years before connection speeds are high enough.
Even when they are, I will still prefer to pay.

I will give you $100 if you can show me a sign in a Japanese store that says "Western Dog Sh|t" beside a US game. You are lying, or someone lied to you about it.

it has multiplayer coop, and two player split-screen campaign.

I think - if this rumour is true - that IW will put a lot into the expansion. After all, COD4 is on the PC as well, and the PC folks are playing with the mod tools already. PC players won't pay money for JUST new multiplayer maps when they can just download them for free.

There will likely be more to it.

I will not pay $20 for a game that I can play for free in flash. I might pay $10, but only if it's much better than the flash game. I would pay $5, unless I could play it in my console's browser.

If you're talking about huge games, sure, but if you're talking about games like Everyday Shooter, Worms, and Pixeljunk Monsters, no. $5, max.

The writer of this article is a news editor at Canada.com, and he can't even spell correctly? He doesn't know the difference between "highly-reviews" and "highly-reviewed"?

Even highly-reviewed is an meaningless phrase. How can you highly review something? You can highly praise it, you can give it high reviews, but you can't highly-review it.

There are a few more mistakes as well. If this were a blog, I wouldn't care, but this is the Global TV/Nat...

BF: Vietnam is another, though it never appeared on consoles. The Vietnam mod for BF2 is a great example of an excellent game. Though most of that has to do with BF2's engine, the modders made some amazingly fun changes as well.

I love COD4, but would like another WWII game to play on my console. It'd be great if COD5 had a real story like COD4 does, then we continue 4 when 6 comes out, and continue 5 when 7 comes out.

I think it's a great idea. There's no way a developer can get out one game a year that are all as good as COD4 is. Good games take time to build.

"but don't you think that this is one of the reasons why the Xbox 360 struggles to sell 25k units a month in Japan?"

It could be, but I think it's just more that when the first Xbox came out it offered the types of games that US gamers had been playing up until then, and didn't have anything that Japanese gamers were used to. This continued into this generation, but is gradually going away. It's not that J-gamers don't like FPSs and sports games, it's that there hadn'...

Just like the new comic-style BF is only available in Europe and the US? The developers of Super Smash Brothers are located in Japan. Why would they open a US office (and a French, German, Ozzie offices etc.) just to quiz people on what characters they want in the game? Companies in the US don't care about the Japanese public when they offer public betas, why should the Japanese ones do the opposite? It's about saving money.

Second, the kiosks have nothing to do Nintendo "...

There are only two legitimate reasons to hack a piece of hardware.

1) To play regional games. The standards governing regional encoding are retarded and deserve to be hacked.

2) For the pleasure of solving a puzzle. Hackers are weird, but I understand 'em. I like crosswords.

The people I think are idiots are the 15-year-olds who steal all the games their parents won't give them money for.
