"Graphics scale. Game design does not."
I never disagreed with this at all. Once again I and many other have said this when this gen started when commitment to cross gen was a hot topic.
"This will be the same with games on their own sub service. I don't know why people think that games being sold physically will disappear."
Sales of physical copies would drop eventually with the rise of sub services. Sure the option will be there but most will opt to wait for a game to land on the service if it doesn't drop day one because it's cheaper and most have a backlog anyway.
"As we now see more and more games implement...
@iplay1up2
I agree going forward that games should be current gen only. I was only confused about Lightning77 stance on the topic because of what he commented to me in the past.
@Both Above
Yeah... no
Cross gen games have existed in gens prior. The whole notion of certain games being able to run on previous gen others not being able to is not lost on me.
The whole retort about scalability started this gen as a direct response/excuse people use to those that say that having to develop for weaker systems holds back the more powerful ones.
The whole premise of games being able to scale was that ...
Huh?
You literally told me in another article that Horizon and other games scales nicely implying that last gen doesn't hold back current consoles..... but also in the same article you say we need next gen only games to prevent current consoles from being held back like you say here?
Which is it?
https://n4g.com/news/247517...
"Halo and Forza Scales nicely with the old hardware. Same with Horizon and GT7. Phil's clean on this one."
You literally just contradicted yourself. Which is a bit mind boggling.
Why do we need to "wait" for current gen only games to "show off" the 12 teraflops if cross gen games scale nicely and therefore don't hold current gen games back, unlike what you said earlier? Pick one.
"Now we have a legacy developer; known for working for both companies in the past, literally stating he feels that being on a Playstation service probably hurt their overall income."
Which has nothing to with Sony's lack of support. Did you read the article?
They thought the game was gonna do somewhere from 50k-100k and Sony gave them the upfront money that equated to more than that projection(if I had to assume it was probably 200k-300k wor...
But we were told everything scales remember or is that a lie Phib Spencer told us?
"I can't understand why some try to shutdown news or rumors that gamers are talking"
Because it's rumors that they hope aren't true.
Didn't answer the question.
Where did the devs say there weren't supported?
They are complaining about missing out on potential revenue, not lack of support.
"say that they weren't supported after going on Playstation Plus"
Where did they say this?
Oh boy, many won't like to hear this 😂
But this is going to be the reality soon enough as subscription service will undoubtedly become the norm
Good guy Phil continues to make good moves!
"No about of backwards compatibility justifies that price."
PS3 was the cheapest Blu-ray player at the time. That alone justifies the price, but the PS3 was rich with other features that the competition lacked so the price was more than justified. It was very expensive, but not overpriced. Sony took a ridiculous loss on each console even at the expensive price...
Those are good points/ideas. Hopefully they can add some of those overtime to make the service more appealing
And they don't want to repeat that. Remember people were saying stuff like the PS3 would be Sony's last console and that Sony would go bankrupt.
Sony was coming off of the success of the PS2 and assumed thier dominance would continue with the PS3 and therefore were willing to take a loss at the time which they would later regret. Now they only sell their console at a loss for the first year or two.
"The service wasn't appealing to PS gamers so it really needed a bigger overhaul than this"
What kind of overhaul do you suggest? Obviously Sony isn't willing to put 1st party titles on there day one yet so what else is there?
They have the game trials so you still have the ability to play 1st party releases and then decide if you want to buy them or not, assuming the trials are day one.
"Pretty sure this was the same argument when digital games were becoming a thing. Most wait anyways to buy it on sale or used, so what would be the difference waiting for it on a sub service that pays the developers regardless?"
Physical sales (in regards to actual hard copies) have dropped wasn't there a statistic that said games are being bought 50/50 physical/digital? What I really meant though, was in regards to individual $60/$70 purchases would eventuall...
