I know. I'm totally shocked that Sony would make such a pro gamer move!
Having to charge a higher price point/tier further proves that the current model isn't profitable enough to release big budget games on plus day one. And any tier that came along with a price point that would be profitable/sustainable for them would be met with backlash for being too expensive.
Sony has seen a multitude of 3rd party games stripped away from their platform via acquisition so of course they are going to look into acquisitions themselves. And I thought bri...
@Obscure
"I think all this "lower quality games because of subscription" BS is gonna blow out on their faces every time they fail to deliver higher quality games compared to Microsoft and Nintendo"
Didn't know Nintendo was offering their games day one on a sub service. . . .
Great to see Sony investing more money into games. How very pro gamer of them to do so.
If they would make more money or if it wouldn't hurt their bottom line putting their games day one on plus why wouldn't they do it?
It's not PR speak, it's common sense. What is the main appeal for a sub service? It's that fact that you get access to hundreds of games for a low monthly fee. Emphasis on the word 'low.'
"Microsoft is the lesser of two evils in the gaming industry and that’s just plain obvious to anyone that doesn’t have fanboy goggles on"

"they know their currently strategy of AAA single player games is not sustainable"
Has been sustainable for 5 generations so far...
Weird that people are questioning Sony's gaming strategy after all these years. They aren't the ones you should be worried about lol
Look at it from a logical perspective.
Do you expect people to pay for a sub service AND buy games at $60/$70 a pop?
Right now, people are buying games at the rate it's always been, but do you expect that to continue in the future as more and more subscribe and more and more games go on these sub service day one?
Nice to see that sales and market leadership matter again. We're back to the good ol days.
@imalwaysright
"that trojan horse called blu ray drive that was not needed in the 7th generation as evidenced by the 360"
Not needed? Yeah. . . Okay. . .
"they had to cut production costs where they could to sell it at an acceptable price but none of that means or proves that at the time people didn't appreciate or didn't want BC"
It shows that bc isn't a top priority on people's li...
@imslwaysright
You're missing my point. BC wasn't as big of a deal back then as it is now. I wonder why that is? X-game chat was a bigger issue than BC back then.
@gangsta_red
"Pretty sure it was an expected feature at that time"
And yet when Sony removed it their sales increased. Barely any complaints when they did it too.
"Very disingenuous comment"
No it'...
"like they did with cross-platform gaming"
Lol funny thing is several people called this out. Several people were saying that it was only an issue because Sony was playing hard ball while MS embraced it as opposed to people actually caring for it.
And they got called greedy, anti gamer, etc because it. Now if a game doesn't have cross play people don't even complain about it anymore. Funny how life works.
This is just further proof that you can't please everyone. Even after a feature that someone has been complaining about since launch releases, the bitching still ensues.
"If they think their games sell too well to be in their premium subscription, then that is their decision"
They will be on the sub, just don't expect them to be on there DAY ONE anytime soon.
They can add a cheap dedicated tablet like device that's meant only for streaming games from consoles. Most will not want the sacrifice in power for portability so a cheap streaming device that's designed around gaming could be an alternative to the idea.
If MS wasn't acquiring Activision, I doubt you'd care enough to enter this article and comment which is a double standard on your part.
I was told that Phil never lies, so he's probably clean on that one.
You're a funny guy Sully!
Heard that sub services are all the rage these days. Maybe they can go that route to guarantee success and no longer have a 'major concern'? 🤔
