"Why even bother with Series S if last gen can out do it"
It's sort of obvious no? Most developers will stop making games for the last-gen consoles in the next year or so.
Additionally, there will be experiences on PS5/XSX/XSS that simply cannot run on a PS4/XB1 due to slower CPU's, lack of SSD's, etc.
Right, but the game is still the same next-gen game with the same gameplay/content. No different from buying a PC game and running it on a lower end laptop and then running it on your high end gaming rig. Same game, just different performance.
Yes, it's a CPU issue too - systems like AI, physics, cameras, input, general gameplay etc. run on the CPU and have to be updated at the same rate as the rendering.
So you're effectively having to render everything twice as fast (on the GPU), but also run the entire game logic twice as fast since the GPU needs the above systems data to be available so that it knows what to render, which is equally demanding on the CPU.
Nothingburger. This is totally normal in game dev. If you think studios at EA, Ubisoft, Sony, etc aren't helping out on each others games... you're wrong. The Naughty Dog team actually contributes to most Sony 1st party games.
This. It's pretty hard going back to 30 after playing so many games at 60. When the true next gen games appear and are 30fps 'cinematic experiences', it will be rough.
It's hardly scary if it's running next-gen games, just at a lower resolution.
110% clickbait - should’ve never approved it with this title.
I doubt any one game by any platform holder would “bury” the other console.
Especially not MGS, MGS4 was exclusive and that didn’t bury the 360.
But it’s also kinda sad that you would get excited by that - competition is good.
If Microsoft and Nintendo leave and only Sony are left - we’ve already seen the garbage both MS and Sony will pull when they think they’re untouchable - enjoy your lack of innovation, $600+ console and $100+ games...
The number of people with that mentality is limited though, not enough to outweigh the extra revenue they will make by being on PC.
And why would MS or Sony care about affecting the incentive to buy their hardware? Realistically the majority of people will still play on console and hardware has never been a money maker and by buying on PC, your money is still going into Sony’s pocket.
I guess what I’m asking is - how is you playing Halo on PC, or Uncharte...
@badz Right... PlayStation makes Sony money right now. PS studios are part of PlayStation and clearly they want to increase revenue - just like every other corporation on the planet.
“ it's under the PS division and they have been making huge revenue and profits for years now. get your facts straight.”
Where did I say the PS division does not make huge revenue and profit? I said they want to increase said revenue and profit. Just like every other comp...
I love this theory that someone on a non-PS enjoying the game somehow makes the game less fun... what?
This is prime fanboyism - "if Sony put their games on PC day 1, it is a dead brand and I will stop playing"
Why does it matter if PC gamers are enjoying the same games we enjoy on PS?
It seems likely Sony will start doing day one eventually - why wouldn't they? They only care about revenue, and they lose money on PS consoles sold. If someone wants to buy the game on PC, it's just more money for Sony at the end of the day.
Any company wants the biggest addressable market possible, without directly contributing to your competitors success, so it makes sense to be on PC.
"This is nothing more than a cash grab"
Why is this a surprise? Corporations are out to make $$$ - they don't care if that money comes from PS5 or PC - dollar bills are dollar bills regardless of source.
Why would you hope that more gamers getting access to a game/franchise, therefore giving Sony studios more money to make even better exclusives, 'crashes and burns'?
If making $5bn in a quarter is 'damaged', I'd like to sign up to be 'damaged' please, thanks!
But someone on N4G told me corporations are our friends and don't only care about $$$ / stock prices / investors.

I mean I agree. I don't think less options is better, but right now the options are basically a weakened Live sub for the same price as a previously strong Live sub, or Game Pass Ultimate. Either merge them (without a price increase), or scrap GWG since it's been weak for a while, and make Gold a bit cheaper.
Unpopular opinion but they should just scrap GWG. It's become weak since Game Pass took over. Perhaps they need to merge the two services fully.
It wouldn't be a console generation without 10 different UI's throughout :P
