It was a good year, not great IMO when compared to past years - but that is also setting a high bar.
None of that is Sony's fault either - they clearly planned to deliver a lot more this year than they could, due to COVID, which is obviously totally out with their control.
2022 is looking packed now though!
That only really applies to Series S though, and we don't know how many of those have actually been sold - Series X is still impossible to get.
They've also launched a much better product this time around, the console is the most powerful on the market and has a good number of high scoring 1st party games - neither of those things could be said about disaster that was Xbox One in 2013. Complete 180.
I'd be interested in seeing a breakdown of t...
I'd say that's totally up to your personal preference. A few things I would factor in if I were making the decision:
- The capabilities of both TV's (HDR, VRR, 120hz, Dolby Vision, etc.). XB1X cannot take advantage of a lot of premium TV features.
- No 120Hz on XB1X, if you like playing at high framerate (and your TV supports it).
- Not all XB1X games run at 4K or have a huge delta in res between XB1X and XSS
- XSS games typically exhi...
"You're wrong about Death Stranding too. You can play it OFFLINE without a sweat."
You can indeed play it offline, just like you can play Halo Infinite offline.
I literally just re-installed Death Stranding DC a few days ago, it required me to take a sizable download to start playing... Dude do you even have a PS5 lol - not that this means DS is 'always online' anyway, it isn't.
Again though, always online mean...
Thanks! Definitely trying this out then.
You are comparing two different modes there, for X1X that is performance mode, and that is quality mode on the Series S.
With both in performance mode, it becomes 1440p60 (XB1X) vs 1080p60 (XBSS). You could make an argument that XB1X should be running at 1080p too, given DF said it's the only platform that struggles to hit 60.
So it's confirmed you didn't watch the video. I watched it so you don't have to:
You: "with lower draw distance" (pretending its a big deal)
DF: "Trees render slightly further on XB1X, although really hard to spot without a 3x zoom" (barely noticeable)
You: "under 1080p rez"
DF: "1080p is basically locked, with barely any sign of DRS"
"Dude it's to be played ...
Excited? I literally couldn't be less excited for this. Hopefully this NFT fad dies out soon.
This game is looking great and seems to be a blast to play. Impressive how well this engine scales all the way back to the anemic 2013 Xbox. The delay was worth it.
Looking forward to trying this out tonight.
Did you even watch the video? Most of what you said doesn't match what they said...
Also Series S is running with higher quality visuals than XB1X.
You aren’t “sitting on a useless disk”, you are sitting on an Xbox One disk, which is where 90% of console gamers will play this game.
This is the downside of smart delivery unfortunately.
One positive though is the game also has a service side check for being released, so we aren’t being swamped by story spoilers by those who got it early / don’t have to avoid the internet…
I was referring to Death Stranding, not Demon Souls.
And there are plenty of other examples of both PS4/5 and XB1/SX games where the disk is not playable at all or not fully playable without internet/a download.
This is nothing new nor is it always online.
Yep, would’ve been great to have that plus coop at launch - but reviews for the game are great and it’s apparently good fun.
Would’ve probably been 90+ if it had coop at launch.
Fortunately they’ve announced it’s already being addressed, so you should be good soon.
Is this on PC game pass also? I’ve never tried SS but interested to try it out if the barrier is low.
Also, I read that headline at first as Xbox Series Six 😵💫
I mean, that’s sorta obvious. You don’t put all your eggs in one basket plus you need to diversify if you want to maintain a viable brand and product that reaches many audiences.
That’s why these mega corporations reach valuations of trillions of dollars - get rich off one or two things and then diversify into 20 other things.
Im not cheeeing for anything. I’m saying that’s the reality. If you go buy a game that is > the disk size, which is semi common nowadays, you own a license to the game and can download the rest of it, that’s it.
My copy of DS for PS5 needed an update to play - does that make it always online? Of course not.
This happens on both PS and Xbox regularly. Switch less so.
Glad we’re in agreeance - the weaker console somehow has better visuals overall.
And yes, no point starting a debate you know you will lose / based on shaky foundations.
“ The one x is more powerful then the s. That's why it runs at higher rez”
So how do you explain the higher quality visuals on S?
It’s almost like you have no clue about game dev and have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about 😱
It definitely had a weak launch, PS5 came out with a lot better games at launch, and a lot more of them. But there is no denying that the last 6 months or so have belonged to Xbox. They've had a lot of high scoring, polished games come out.
You could also say Xbox sales have been hit, most 'hardcore' gamers are more interested in the X, not S (myself included - I would only consider buying an S as a 2nd TV system or for travelling), so are sitting off, waiting b...
