Switch is killing it as always - only a matter of time before it knocks down yet another platforms record.

Interesting that PS and Xbox are so close.

$100 can be a lot of money to a lot of people though.

Also, you're assuming they WANT to be in an ecosystem other than Xbox - Xbox has some things PlayStation doesn't which are appealing to consumers - like game pass, Zenimax, and soon Activision.

@Jeece Marketers will always be marketers.

Some games will hit 60, sure, but your mileage is going to vary a lot depending on the type of game and how much effort the developer puts into optimization.

I think what you get for $300 is fine, if you’re good with the above concessions.

For me personally, I would only buy Series S for emulation (or for kids, but I have none). If I want to start gaming on Xbox I’d bite the bullet and buy the ...

That’s also a possibility, and only $100 more for the digital. Assuming the person wasn’t wanting an Xbox for some other reason (e.g exclusives or game pass).

I see Series S as the entry level one you buy if you’re not a hardcore gamer, or for your kids or 2nd room etc.

Shrug, if you buy a Series S you know what you are getting and that game experiences will vary by developer. If you are fine with that, then $299 is a great price.

If you aren’t fine with that, buy a Series X.

You make it sound like the MLB don’t like making money and didn’t want the game on other platforms and Microsoft forced them.

Of course they want the game everywhere, and when the contract was up for renewal, they required other platforms to be part of it.

And that’s how business works, competition is healthy - nothing stops Sony from putting it on their subscription service - I also expect they will counter MS by including it in Spartacus.

I couldn’t find who owns the trademark but either way, slap MLB on the box and people will buy it.

I expect the days for the show are numbered. Sony don’t want to make first party games for game pass day 1.

“ And don't be silly, Sony is making money from every copy of the show sold on Xbox.”

How? They aren’t the publisher. Sales goto the publisher.

No amount of financial incentive would convince Sony to develop a ...

@Eonjay If you read further you’ll see I said they get up front development costs, but sales and GamePass revenue goto the MLB - which will be a lot of money.

@derek I suck as an Xbox fan with my PS5 and no recent xbox. I should probably get better and actually buy the consoles.

@Apocalypse

If I only liked one game, I wouldn’t buy a $500 games console. Obviously people typically play more than one game and when you add in the other games on GamePass, EA play and later things like COD being on there annually, it’s a better deal for annual franchises.

You are assuming the MLB are willing to license multiple games. They likely have an exclusivity deal with Sony. Otherwise EA or 2K would’ve probably tried to make an MLB game over the...

You can buy digital too, all versions are upgradable for free.

"If it wasn't worth it they would have threatened to stop making the only baseball game"

If Sony had such a hold over the MLB that they could threaten to stop making the game and the MLB would fold - the game would have never appeared on Xbox, Switch and game pass... this is obvious. Which other PlayStation Studios games are on GamePass?

1595d ago 2 agree22 disagreeView comment

They get paid the up-front dev costs. You don't get more than that unless you are the publisher too.

So yes, indirectly they get money for Xbox since they are paid to make it, but they don't get the gamepass revenue or per-unit sales.

"Fact is if Sony don't make the game the mlb gets 0 video game revenue including the license fee. It isn't like the mlb has a bunch of other licensee's lining up."

EA or 2K wo...

Except that isn't true for 99% of consumers (see PS3, XB1 w/ Kinect, etc)

There's literally no way this is being produced for <= $200 with the hardware inside. The testkits for next-gen VR are the same price as PS5 testkits so that's a good indication of where the retail price is going.

I'm voting $400-$500, depending on how much Sony is willing to lose per unit sold.

Seems like a diversion tactic to get this to sail through the federal government with ease - and it'll probably work since our government has no idea about technology & games.

It does, but the PS4 version won't show up on the PS5 store. You'll have to do it via a PS4, or via your browser.

For digital versions, you'll be able to download/preload the PS5 version normally.
For disk versions, you'll have to insert your PS4 disk on day 1 and download the PS5 version.

Sony have also confirmed it works via a blog post: 1596d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Other, far smaller developers with less money manage to do all of those at $60 🤷

“ Again, someone is trying to make it seem that buying a game once is worse that paying monthly for a subscription and never owning the game. ”

To be honest, renting and not owning seems like an improvement for annual franchises like sports games and COD. Buying a full price game only to have to re-buy basically the same game with updated squads a year later isn’t great.

And sure anyone could make a baseball game but without the MLB branding you’re basica...
