Yep, I noticed it too... The cutscenes were too crisp to be running at 720p, but as soon as it switched to the real-time rendered portions, the game immediately started to give off that "upscaled" look. So I agree with what bnaked said.
But this actually means that the 360 version may not require 8-10 discs like some of us have been speculating.
All they need to do is downscale the FMVs in the 360 version to 720p (or lower!), and they can cut down the size...
I believe you misread what I said.
I wasn't bashing the FM franchise.
It was the opposite. I like FM quite a lot. 4 was my favorite.
Instead, I was finding it odd that they are making the new game a REAL TIME strategy game as opposed to TURN-BASED strategy game. Only one of their games was ever made into a real-time-kinda game, and that was FMA. And FMA was... not very balanced.
Did you play FMA? I don't believe it was ever released in the US, but i...
Two mistakes being made by SE:
1) RTS??? I've yet to see a good RTS on console. (Halo Wars included) They should try to stick to the turn-based design... I mean Front Mission Alternative tried to do the whole RTS thing back on the PS1 and it... kinda didn't work.
2) 360 Exclusive? God... something really bad must have happened between SE and Sony a year ago. It's like they're determined to screw Sony even at the cost of shooting themselves in the foot.
...
You clearly haven't been using N4G long enough.
Yes, at the moment this place is full of Sony fanboys. I won't deny that. But if you were here 18 months ago, you'd know that things were heavily skewed in the other direction.
What N4G does is merely gather the most active/vocal gamers on the internet, and what the current state of N4G tells us is that the Sony fanboys are simply outnumbering the 360/Wii fanboys in general. In other words..., don't blame it on N4G. ...
This thread wins N4G.
Yeah... I was a little confused about the Icarus thing too, but thanks to those who cleared it up.
Ergo Proxy also makes a great reference to Daedalus, BTW.
Text chat alone wouldn't be so bad. But the fact that you need to enter the XMB AND select the chat room EACH TIME you want to send something, and that you can't tell when new messages come though... makes this reeeeeelllley bad.
It's like alt+tabbing into AIM to chat with your friends while playing Starcraft. On a single screen.
It's laughable.
No, cry-able.
Who gives a $#!^ about the PS2's price??
Sony is more out of touch than they already seemed.
This is downright pathetic.
What bugs me most is the fact that Kotaku did not mention anything about FW2.70
Those guys clearly pay no attention to anything Sony.
IMO, if 2.70 does come out on Tuesday, and it has cross-game chat... Microsoft may as well start announcing the next XBox.
I agree too.
Need direct feed and framecount before we can judge properly.
And don't forget MGS4 FFS! ;)
1) The PS3's reliability is just icing on the cake. As you will soon find out, the PS3's library is much stronger than the media makes it appear.
2) I *would* buy the next XBox. Why? Because I have hope that Microsoft would have learned their lesson by then to not release a glaringly faulty product again. The first XBox was as solid as they came, so I don't see why they couldn't do it again; as long as they don't cut any corners next time.
Good read.
Change that pic into the DS version.
That makes it look like the Wii is getting the next Zelda.
Personally, all I heard from that Keynote was that the Wii ain't getting any more games.
... anyway.
With E3 in a quasi-limbo state, GDC is THE venue for ANYTHING business-related in the videogame sphere. Big or small, if a videogame company has an announcement to make, then GDC is the perfect place to do it.
You may not think that FW2.7 is "big enough" for GDC, but that's just your opinion. It is still an announcement, and for that reason alone, it justifies itself for using GDC's platform.
Honestly, if FW2.7 does have cross-gam...
As in one of Korea's other names in History.
Change the title to "Demon's Souls is no Star Ocean" and this post will be far less flaming. As it is right now, it's borderline offensive to non-casual gamers.
You may remember that Demon's Souls was the title that Famitsu's readers picked as the "most satisfying purchase" out of all the major titles so far this year. They picked this above SF4 and Yakuza 3, both of which are excellent titles.
Is Demon's Souls Niche? Yes, it most definitely is...
... was quite honestly bad. Worse than FO3 and definitely worse than ME. Sorry, but it's the truth. DEMON'S SOULS, on the other hand... that's an excellent ARPG on the PS3, but I digress.
As for ME, my biggest complaints with that game were:
1) slow framerate (price of the graphics)
2) repetitive grinds (but it's an RPG so I shouldn't complain)
3) ridiculous loading screens
I was hoping a PS3 version would alleviate at least #1 and #3, but...
"Maybe I'm still hold Nintendo to their high standards when they had the NES and SNES, but they've let me down for the second generation in a row. "
You mean, THIRD generation in a row, right? ;)
- N64
- GC
- Wii
Oh wait, were you counting the GC and Wii into the same gen? I see what you did thar!!!
#2 Assist Points: The assist points they are referring to are rewarded when the target is KILLED. I think you might be confusing it with R2's EXP system where ANY damage you cause rewards you EXP. That's not what he's asking for.
#3 Bullets: He's not complaining that he can't carry 5 weapons at a time. 64 bullets IS little, even for real-life standard-equipment. That's only TWO clips of ammo. And ONE grenade. In real-life you are given 2 grenades and FOUR clips of ammo bef...
The "X/O quit" problem they mention IS actually true.
If you play on a system that uses "O" as the hard-wired "YES" button (namely the Japanese PS3s), then this is exactly how it works. I have both types so I know. And admittedly, it can get annoying. It's a nitpick though.
As for his other points... most of it is just nitpicking. It does sound like he's only played it for 3-4 hrs and decided to whine. (the sniper/assist complaint i...
"I would much rather take better performance @720p then trying to push 1080p." Totally agreed.
But 1080p games DO pop out instantly when you have one running. I could tell right away that FF13 was running at 720p. But it was the cutscenes that made me scratch my head and think.... "wait, how did that just go from 720p to 1080p without even switching display modes?"
The answer came soon enough though; the "engine" runs at 1080p, but sp...
