Agreed on the first point, but tentatively disagreed on the second.
We need to wait another year to be sure if the Wii will truly succeed.
And please don't flame me. All I am saying is that we don't yet have enough data to draw that conclusion. We won't know until next year if 3rd Party titles will truly succeed as one would expect them to on a "winning platform". (the true measure will be "The Conduit" and "Mad World", IMO)
I have not yet paid more than $25 for any Blu-Ray disc.
Even Iron Man is available for pre-order at $24 on amazon.
Yeah I totally agree... they seem convinced that people will pay up even though their competition offers nearly the same quality lineup at nearly half the (perceived) price.
[warning] Shameless self-promo here [/warning]

I didn't want to submit this to N4G, but it's basically what I wrote about the PS3's pricepoint about a week ago. Some of you have prolly read this already, and I apologize if you did. I just think it's a relevant point.
The jist:
...
You may be right, but like people have said, where there is a will...
As long as one or two companies continue to make a killing off of the platform, the platform itself cannot die. As long as Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 look better on higher-specced systems, there is no way people will stop playing PC games and stop upgrading their PCs.
OTOH, if Blizzard EVER decided to go console-only, THAT would kill PC gaming. But why would they do that? They know how to make mon...
Charmers is right.
In fact, that's one of the ways Sony stole so many studios from Nintendo back in 1995 (during the PS1 vs N64 days); they offered lower royalty rates for developers.
Yes, I meant "Playstation" image, but I would assume that "Sony" and "PS" are interchangable when in the context of a videogame forum.
As for the image problem itself... I hate to keep repeating this, but to the average gamer, the PS3 DOES have an image problem. I deal with gamers of all demographics on a daily basis, and trying to make them buy a PS3 is like pulling teeth.
Sure, it's been outselling the 360 for a few months, but le...
What you said was politically very unwise. (and gosh you lost some bubbles too...) But in your defense, I agree with what you are saying.
You see... while it SHOULDN'T matter that the PS3 is losing just in the US, the fact that most developers reside in this country, and get caught up by the "local market news" affects software support by third parties and causes Sony's entire image problem in the single most important market in the industry.
So... alth...
'"We had yet another strong month for PlayStation in August, <blah blah blah>" Tretton then hyped up PS3's software lineup:'
....
It's like he's being told to say this regardless of what the scorecard says. His only and repeated defense is the holiday lineup... (which *is* strong, I admit, but right now he sounds like he's in denial of what's actually happening in front of him)
Well, let's get some facts straight first. The PS3 SK...
Even with the low-quality video, I can feel my heart racing much faster with the seizure build. Oh well.. I could have really used some digital narcotics, but Sony wants to take it away out of fear of getting sued by the DEA.
...lol?
"companies will start abandoning PC development and go to the consoles as it's much harder to play pirate versions of games (You need a chipped XBox 360, PC's don't have that problem and the PS3 hasn't been cracked yet)"
Certainly, you can't be serious, right?
EVERY popular platform gets hacked, and the hacks become accessible to the mainstream as the platform gets more popular. Hell, even the DS is "hacked"!
If anything, conso...
Was against McCain before he was for him. Basically, O'Reilly is firmly against Obama, so he reluctantly supports McCain.
It's like how PS3 or 360 fanboys "support" each other out of hatred toward the Wii.
AWWW COME ON GUYS, THAT WAS FUNNY!!!!
Lighten up!!! ^^
A few things that I'd like to add:
1) They keep mentioning that the Console space is insulated from piracy. I don't know if that's ignorance or denial that tells them so, but that is in fact far from the truth.
The fact of the matter is, the most popular platform ALWAYS gets hacked. The SNES had the UFO, the PS1 had the modchip/disc-swaps, the PS2 had modchips, and the XBox had OS hacks, and the 360 currently has a firmware hack. In ALL of these cases, once yo...
On a factual, logical basis, yes, the PS3 is a GREAT deal. The best bang for your buck, so to speak. I own two PS3s, and I paid $1,100 for my first one (at launch), and I don't regret it from an economic perspective (I also own all other systems, btw).
However, that's not the problem here.
Sony are refusing to drop the price because they are insisting on turning a profit on the console TODAY, when they should be focused on doing so over their "10-year lifespan&quo...
The Playstations have always stayed ahead of its time be ensuring that they don't rely on TODAY's technology when they introduce their hardware.
The N64 crowd claimed that CD-ROM was not necessary and created "loading times" that gamers would reject: FAIL
The Saturn hit the market early with a high-capacity CD format, then was blindsided by the PS2 and its DVD-ROM drive: FAIL
The PS3 ... well I don't have to explain this one.
I woulda never have bought the game... it's just too expensive.
But I have to admit, I'm tempted to try it out if it's for free... meh.
Nah forget it. I need to take care of house chores before the Oct/November flood of AA+ titles. (at least 6 games I need to buy; that's nearly $400 in software costs) Thank god Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 aren't coming out this year because I can't afford to upgrade my computer on top of all those PS3/360 games.
You get bubbles for your Avatar. LiquidFei FTW.
That said, here's what I do with my video consumption:
1) Drama (chick-flicks) and Non-action movies get rented on Amazon Unbox (best DD service around IMO) for $4.99. I only get to watch it once, but considering the convenience (5 minute buffering, and you can choose ANY movie from Amazon's catalog), it's a great way to watch a movie over dinner.
2) Action, CG-heavy movies or Classics (like Pixar s...
I almost disagreed with you, but then I realized you had a point.
While the Demo certainly does provide a better gaming experience for the consumer, it doesn't provide the consumers the opportunity to give feedback to the developer. Basically, you get sample of the final product, and that's what you're stuck with regardless of how you likeit.
Double-edged sword indeed.
$3.99 - White Skin
$3.99 - Black Skin
$3.99 - Hispanic Skin
$3.99 - "Dude" Skin
and..... $9.99 - Bikini Outfit!!!
GOGOGOGO~!!
Let's hope that is the case... but considering what really goes into a retail pricedrop (i.e. moratoriums), and the fact that they already announced a bundle for November (with a fixed price), they have very little room to maneuver.
But in the end, I hope everything plays out as you said... a $100 cut would put them on the perfect trajectory...
