They do still have videogame stores.
But they'd carry pirated software exclusively.
And when "offical" software finally makes it to those markets, they are usually priced to match the local economy (i.e. cheaper than the US).
Also, don't forget that videogames are more expensive in Europe. So pricing ALWAYS gets influenced by the local market to a certain extent.
Are any of those games you listed even out yet?
I mean, how can you argue that the shovelware phase ended at the end of 2007, then list a bunch of games that won't come out until the end of 2008 at the earliest? (and two of them won't even come to the Wii)
Just saying... I'm not disputing your argument, but your logic is flawed.
Resistance 1 did this, and I was locked out of multiplayer until they updated the client with a patch, 6 months later. Basically, I could only connect to the Japanese servers.
I'm surprised Sony is retarded enough not to have "fixed" this issue.
And don't give me the "you weren't supposed to import" bullcrap. It's not like I pirated/hacked a system or something, and the system was sold out at launch (mostly because of the flippers).
Didn't the MGS4 bundle actually sell out at numerous retailers? Isn't that fact? That's got nothing to do with VGChartz, no?
Or am I thinking of something else here?
If you understand what they represent.
If you use them for predictions... they're probably useless.
But if you're looking for archives of data, there's no better way to get it than VGChartz. Because, after all, they do fix their numbers once official numbers get released.
I wouldn't use it for any sort of predictions. But if I wanted to look something up that happened in the past, it's way easier than shifting through monthly NPD reports then try...
That depends on why it's sold out. If it's sold out due to understocking, then selling out doesn't necessarily imply greater sales.
OTOH, if supplies are high enough and it's selling out anyway, then it means actual sales are indeed high. Case in point; Wii.
Because it's the most accessible. Kind like the Wii story, really. It's so easy to get into, that so many more people are able to appreciate the game.
Case in point, this is the only FPS game that I have been able to get women to play. My GF and my friend's fiance play this for hours during the day, then at night we all get together (all four of us) and play together.
My friend's a huge GoW fan, and I personally think MGO is a gift from God. But no matter how...
The distinction is rather simple; "how long does a gaming session last?" If it's over 10 minutes, it's not considered casual. And anything that can be played for 5 or so minutes at a time is considered casual.
Casual, mostly as in, "it doesn't take (time) commitment to play".
And it was established a few years before the Wii/PS3 were introduced to the market. The term really originated from the PC and Mobile Phone markets (and DS too, actua...
I played it last night... and I have to say it didn't feel like a casual game at all to me. Great game. Just not casual.
sorry for the nitpick.
that you can still sell the game!
We know MGS moved the systems because the 80GB MOTOR STORM bundles never ever had stock issues. (this one also has the DS3 but shhh... that would kill my argument!! hehe)
Yep. HARDWARE-BASED Backward-compatibility will be gone after this. Basically, if you want guaranteed BC on your PS3, you need to grab this bundle right now. That doesn't mean they can't implement some type of software-based solution via a firmware upgrade later, but knowing how slow Sony has been, I wouldn't expect them to solve that problem by this X-Mas (if ever).
And on a side note, the 20GB version does have its own use, but is very limited. People who want a SECOND PS...
you're right, but when a studio is part of a much bigger umbrella company like EA/A-B, those employees are far more expendable. if it was your own studio and the economy was truly squeezing your balls, you would try *harder* not to resort to the same kind of "aww fvck it, fire half the people!" kind of decisions. you'd cut at most 30% or so...
then again... the studios are equally responsible for everything that happens. afterall, they took the money when "sel...
I'm not sure if you guys read anything beyond the headline of the article.
Here's a direct quote from his article: "What will happen is that the existing hardcore genres will continue."
And the point of the article was that hardcore gaming is NOT DEAD, and that it will merely improve to allow more casual players into the hardcore-fold. Keep in mind that this HAS been the trend all along in the past 20 years. Many people don't notice it, but games (eve...
The game looks okay (they seem to be playing this at a slow speed), but whoever is playing the game (and it looks like he's being coached by a Blizz rep) clearly hasn't played Starcraft before.
... why are there so many noobs in the videogame journalism field??? =(
EDIT: the second video is played by someone who knows what he's doing. THANK GOD.
Such a misleading title... I think 90% of the people went there expecting a child obesity article.
(un)fortunately, the article here uses "heavy" as in "heavy use", not "weight-heavy". But yeah, if only 22% of gamers were heavy, that would mean gamers are less fat than the average American. But that's not what the data shows.
... and I'd really like to know what they're playing. (other than the obvious guitar heroes)
and THANK YOU for saying it.
Sony RARELY had to step in and say anything during the PS1 days. As a matter of fact, they only spoke at E3 and TGS to announce a new title coming out in 3 months (Gran Turismo!), and never got into a mudfight with ANYONE.
Over the years, they've turned into a PR machine.
An add-on to produce HD graphics?
Wow, you can't be serious. If you had the simplest understanding of computer architecture, you'd know that is IMPOSSIBLE, especially on the Wii hardware (which port would it plug into? What bus speed does that port have?)
There's a reason why all seasoned gamers dissed the Wii when it launched. And while many of them were being too cynical of the Wii, the one thing they did point out correctly was the Wii's hardware limitation.
...
Especially the back window.
That pretty much hits the core issue; they are screwing legit customers and blaming pirates for their suffering... It's not that I can't understand why publishers do it, but in reality, it has the opposite effect; people who WERE legit consumers are being turned into pirates as a result.
