@ Perjoss

It sounds like you need to port forward or enable UPnP. Both the 360 and PS3 connect to their respective networks much faster when properly port forwarded.

I guess the writer has never heard of Steam.

I'm not really interested in Left 4 Dead 2, but those wanting the game should be able to buy it. It's a shame that some countries still have such a flawed rating system.

I can't believe there are any real "PC gamers" who were planning on playing Modern Warfare 2. I'd rather continue playing Source mods and Valve's games than spend $60 on the next overhyped Call of Duty installment. My most recent version is Call of Duty 2, and I got that for free with a videocard years ago.

I've owned all 3 consoles since 2007 and game on the PC quite a bit. It's nice not having to worry about being unable to play both Heavy Rain and Alan Wake.

@ Foliage

Uncharted 2 caches data to the hard drive and constantly streams data from the Blu-ray just as Uncharted 1 did. In fact, a lot of PS3 games cache data to the hard drive. You do not need an install to take advantage of the hard drive as shown by Uncharted 1 & 2, and Killzone 2. Halo 3 is as far as I know one of the only 360 games that caches to a hard drive if one is available, and it shortens load times for levels that have been played recently.

The last game console to be designed and manufactured in the U.S. was the Atari Jaguar.

I've had it freeze on me twice on Chapter 25, once on normal and the other time on hard. It's a bit of an annoyance, but the game autosaves constantly so you don't lose any progress.

I don't think so; the last trailer id released showed the game is suffering from a lot of the same graphical deficiencies Doom 3 did. The character models were laughable considering how much the game's graphics were hyped.

I suspect Crysis 2 on the PC will take the overall graphics crown in 2010. While the PC version likely won't blow Crysis 1 out of the water, I imagine the enhancements made with Cryengine 3 should bring some pretty large performance improvements over Cryengine...

@ The real killer

This is the last response you will get from me because you have no idea what you're talking about.

Both the IBM Cell used in the PS3 and the IBM Xenon used in the 360 use the PowerPC instruction set, which is based on the RISC architecture. You keep bringing up x86, which has nothing to do with the PS3 or 360. Emulation != native x86 support as software has to be recompiled for PowerPC in order to run. Also, x86 emulation is laughably slow on the PS...

@ The real killer, again

My god you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. x86 has NOTHING to do with GPUs AT ALL. Intel owns the x86 instruction set and it hasn't been used on a console since Xbox original as it was a Pentium 3 coppermine based CPU. You are using terms and acronyms you clearly do not understand.

Neither the 360 nor the PS3 use x86 as they are IBM RISC based CPUs therefore they use the PowerPC instruction set. Intel only licenses x86 to AMD ...

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Both the 360 and PS3 use RISC based PowerPC CPUs. Neither of the consoles are compatible with the CISC based x86 instruction set.

The 360's multi-platform advantage has more to do with developer familiarity with DirectX in comparison to the PS3's version of OpenGL ES. The more difficult asymmetrical CPU used in the PS3 doesn't really help multi-platform developers looking for a quick and easy port eithe...

I got the original L4D on Steam at launch but only played it for a few weeks. The first week or so was a blast doing 4 v 4 versus with friends, but we all got tired of the game pretty quickly. I love Valve, but I will not be purchasing L4D2. I really wish they would just hurry up with Episode 3.

The fact that you couldn't download custom maps in game (and still can't) seemed like a step backwards compared to other source games like CS:S, Day of Defeat, Garry's Mod, etc.

Intel, AMD, and Nvidia often send out engineering samples to high profile people such as top overclockers and tech websites. These versions of the CPUs/GPUs are often a little less efficient than later official production run chips, due to improvements in the manufacturing process.

Also, I think typically there is some stipulation regarding the resale of these chips. It can end in black listing from receiving new engineering samples, as well as lawsuits.

64-bit can address up to 16 exabytes of memory, and software would have to be completely rewritten to take advantage of 128-bit registries(not just the operating system), otherwise there will be no performance gains.

As we have seen with Vista and Windows 7, Microsoft has no intention of cutting support for legacy hardware. If Windows 8 does end up supporting 128-bit CPUs (if any are even available from Intel or AMD when it releases) Microsoft will still release a 64-bit version...

Killzone 2 had a budget of around $70,000,000. If Lil' Wayne liquidated ALL of his assets, he probably could have funded Killzone 2, but that would leave him with basically nothing.

I own every current gen console and game on the PC, but was up until recently I was starting to lose interest in gaming. Perhaps it's because I haven't really enjoyed that many games released this year, but for whatever reason, I could certainly relate with the article and some of the comments here.

Then I started watching some videos on youtube, which got me into the retro scene and I have really fallen back in love with gaming. It has gotten to the point where I've spent more m...
