Well, I wouldn't say Nintendo would die, as they got billions in the bank. But, I will say that they will never dominate unless they get 3rd parties on board.
@sway_z: Yes, very true.
It's just basic economics at this point. If publisher A has Game A and they see publisher B has a game similar to Game A and sees that it tanks on system A...why would they release their title on the system?
(Yeah, I know. That was one too many A's and B's.)
I would like to add Super Spike V-ball to the forgotten list. Also, in my opinion, Track and Field II was far superior to Track and field.
But, great list, nonetheless.
I don't understand why SE can't make an HD version of Final Fantasy VI.
No matter what they say, people will not believe them.
Using games as a means to an end. Interesting.
If the frame rate stutters, traffic magically pops up 5 feet in front of my car or graphics fill it 10 seconds after I leave a building, then, no. It won't make me forget about next gen.
Wize from your gwave!
You do know that the majority of online shooters are client side, right?
Halo, CoD, Gears of War, and Crysis all have client side hit detection.
In an earlier article, it was revealed that first party games make up 6% of sales for both Sony and Microsoft. The number for Nintendo, however, is 32% So, Nintendo can survive off of first party games.
If it wants to grow it's installed base, however, it needs more third party support. And, it seems, the only way third parties are going to support the Wii U, is if the installed base grows. So let's see how they figure out that conundrum.
There will always be AAA games. Publishers will adapt their business models to fit whatever is the money making flavor of the time.
Remember when DLC first started with Oblivion and horse armor? It took a while for companies to figure it out, but they got it right (in a business sense). Next generation will be about finding the right free to play model or micro transaction.
Nintendo is also a AAA publisher.
How to fix Nintendo:
1. Swallow your pride and join Sony and Microsoft in embracing online gaming.
2. Fans want to play your best games day and date with Japan. It can't be too hard to hire translators to make sure the game is available everywhere?
3. Speaking of fans, it wouldn't hurt your bottom line to release popular titles in Japan that people in the rest of the world make online petitions for, would it?
4. Create a syst...
Wasn't there an article on n4g a few months ago on how frustrated and disappointed Activision was on how poorly BO II on Wii U sold?
I still remember leaving my ps2 on and just jamming the music while doing chores. LOL. Those were the days.
Love live Tim Schafer and Double Fine!
Preferably jelly doughnuts. No sprinkles.
@somethingrhodes: You bought a Wii U only for Nintendo first party games? That is why 3rd parties are avoiding it.
No hate. I still like me a good Mario game, but consumers like you are why EA, Rockstar, Avalanche, etc. are not making Wii U games.
So I'll just wait instead of pre-ordering, cancelling and pre-ordering for a different system.
Would someone be so bold and cruel as to actually implement a genophage? That is scary.
