Actually AMD's 7nm node is due in 2019, so we will see another large boost in price/performance that year. I think we could get a 9 TFLOPS/16GB console for $399.
All depends on if AMD has their APU ready in 2019. I'd hope they can release Ryzen+/Navi early in the year and PS5's APU later in the year. It's all possible as long as AMD doesn't have any delays.
Emulation requires for games to reach compatibility with the emulator which is a one by one basis, or for games to be reverse engineered like 360=X1 BC. In either case games have to reach compatibility on a one by one basis, which is time consuming and requires resources that could go towards new games instead.
PS5 will he the same architecture so it's far more likely to have BC.
No it couldn't, they'd have to get each game running up separately without the base hardware intact. PS2 had a PS1 chip on board, and PS3 had a PS2 chip on board. PS5 won't need it because of similar architecture.
Hoping for a 2019 launch. I don't want any more drawn out gens like Gen 7. 6 years is plenty of time.
Plus with the success of PS4-Pro, how many MORE people will be willing to get a proper update? Many people don't even know of Pro's existence, so many more will want to update when they actually know of the next console's existence.
Also since the next batch of games is 2018, it makes sense for a late 2019 launch.
Since the next batch of games is 2018-2019, I imagine PS5 will come out right after, and hoping for a late 2019 release date.
If it's backwards compatible, we'll likely get 4K60 updates to late PS4 games and maybe even 4K textures. I see no reason why 2019 isn't an ideal release date.
I'm going to buy FFVIIR an tons others are as well, we definitely outnumber the haters.. I don't see the big deal in switching to ARPG because:
1. KH-BBS shows that debuffs add a ton of strategy in an ARPG system, even more-so than in a pure ATB system.
2. Any other KH shows that there is a ton of strategy with magic, which will translate well to FFVIIR.
3. The Dissidia teams are making it, and all of the Dissidia games have ...
Actually I have, I only played 360 last-gen and definitely played Crackdown. Don't try to dodge that the original Crackdown inengine footage and gameplay looked, way, way nicer than the downgraded game they have now. I even have doubts that the cloud's destruction footage may have been faked since everything else was.
Remakes I like, remasters are okay.
Not dumping when in 2019 it'll have been 6 years since a proper refresh.
PC has almost none of the games I want to play- maybe Lost Ark when it comes out and I'll eventually add a GPU to my rig. I'm PS4 all the way.
Next upgrades will be:
PS5
Switch's successor
GTX 1070 or equivalent when Lost Ark comes out.
All are pretty far away.
@Trumpwon'tstopcrying
Other tablets can handle the Tegra X2 so I see no reason Switch couldn't.
Also a greater alternative would have been a traditional console. Hell, they could have done something at like 1.2 TFLOPS at $249. Cheaper and more powerful, and I'd bet it would sell more as well.
Always excuses for Nintendo these days. No wonder they're last place.

Yeah the X2 would have been a welcome improvement. Even if handheld mode was locked at 720p docked mode would be 1080p for more titles with more power for things like AA. Considering Mario Galaxy is 720p no AA it would have looked at nicer(hell, beating out some PS4 games because of their art style IMO).
I'm willing to see what the next graphical jump offers with Switch's sucessor but Switch I'm still 50/50 on. I could really deal...
They're not going to Max out the console outside of Forza/Halo/Gears anyway. Crackdown also got a downgrade.
I'm hungry for more graphics as well, which is why I hope PS5 launches in 2019. Even at $449 or something, it'd be so damn nice to have a true Nex-gen console in the capable hands of Sony.
@Arnon
That's the question... Nobody knows what Nintendo is doing but their now extremely niche fanbase. They've lost touch with their core fanbase for a few generations now.
LOL it's a subcompany so it's a company.
Also, not trying to bash. Xbox would do well under some new leadership.
Amazon should buy Xbox. They might actually turn it into a decent company.
@Porkchop
That's not where Nintendo excels? REALLY. Have they even tried making a traditional console with hardware specced like their competitors in the last 11 years?
Also, tell that to NES, SNES, 64, and Gamecube. Seriously...
If Nintendo had a traditional console on par with PS4 they'd be competing with Sony for first place.
What's amazing is Nintendo should have been the FIRST brand to max out 4K60 with their artstyles taken into consideration. If they were on PS4-Pro level hardware they'd likely have 4K60 maxed out right now. Even on a regular PS4 they may have had some 4K titles.
Or they could have done a traditional console. You know, actually take their exclusives to the competition.

Nov 2019 will be 3 years since the Pro's release, not 2020... So by that logic a 2019 release makes more sense.
And I'd much rather 5-6 years between consoles than 7. Gen 7 was abnormally long.
