Denying that it's in-engine is pretty dumb, but calling it gameplay is also pretty dumb. It's an in-engine story sequence / cutscene with some brief moments where you control movement. Hellblade is beautiful but also boring as fuck and barely a game so the hype, trolling, and flippant up/downvoting on these threads is obviously fanboyism. People are calling Ninja Theory Microsoft's Naughty Dog FFS.
@1nsomniac care to tell me how the first half is wrong or how you would know I didn't play the first game?
@DJStotty that's easy: a tech demo. That's actually close to a good description for the kind of game Hell Blade is. It's basically a vehicle for story, with combat and gameplay being elements for immersion, and not very deep at all. The trailer is an in-engine story sequence, that gives control over movement at brief moments, and maybe has you controlling spear throwing but if you didn't notice, it's completely ineffective against the giant and just developing the story an...
Wrong, this game is super basic. There is no hud because there is no complexity to the combat system. These games are just a vehicle for story, and the combat is only there for immersion. It's niche AF, first game was priced at $30 sold 1 million.... I don't know why people are getting so hyped or why Microsoft is trying to hype it so much. Also, the trailer is an in-engine story sequence with a few parts where you control movement. I doubt you control spear throwing but as you can se...
I'm curious what games you think do what Returnal does better?
Best award moment was pot boy rolling out and Elden Ring winning most anticipated 2 years in a row
No SOTN is a fine game, just not worth mentioning without first mentioning Super Metroid which is in my and many others opinions the GOAT. It's generally agreed that the genre should be called something like metroid-like instead of metroidvania. The term originated in a critics review of SOTN that compared it to super metroid, and since Nintendo took a long break from 2d metroid after Super, Castlevania became a sort of stand-in for the genre.
I don't see your point...
You’ve seen what SE has been doing with final fantasy over the last 2 decades and think that Forspoken’s wokeness is the thing to bitch about? Jesus
Jesus that is just too much for FF7R
Still not sure what to make of this. Will wait for reviews
No. Dread is good but Super Metroid is still leagues ahead. Funny you mentioned Hollow Knight because Dread basically copied its boss design, which is kind of sad for a game that is supposed to be a pioneer of the genre. I think Hollow Knight was more innovative and a much better value; I put less than 20 hours into dread and probably won't go back. Returnal is obviously not a 2d metroidvania, but is an actual evolution of the metroid formula and has several commonalities in terms of them...
Not even comparable to a naughty dog game. The Order: 1886 is more appropriate
Totally. Thought this too. Also think Returnal is very metroid-esque, could technically fit into the action/adventure genre and personally feel that it crushed Metroid so I wouldn't be surprised if they split them into different categories to give nintendo a win.
@DJStotty Cute and definitely needed to be said.
It's not about Hellblade itself, it's about actual fanboys bragging and comparing to / throwing shade at god of war, horizon, and naughty dog. Hellblade 2 looks great, it's just not a comparable game experience (The Order might be more appropriate) and priority is given to visuals over gameplay. I feel like a lot of xbox gamers are going to be disappointed when they actually play it.
Apparently fanboys got so excited about HB2 being exclusive to xbox that they forgot to play HB1 and never discovered that it's a walking simulator. Anyways, the color palette and art direction of HFW is different yeah, it's also made for last gen and still manages to look objectively amazing.
Seriously, go watch a long play of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. It's nice to actually know what you're talking about. It's a walking sim that basically just has you running around listening to an inner monologue which gets really annoying with all the voices some times, no real interaction with the world, some basic ass combat every once in a while, lots of cutscenes and is completed in under 5 hours. It's not very gamey at all. For the record I don't think there'...
No, god of war is an actual game
Yeah, and from all the excitement you can tell that no one actually played the first game. It's a walking sim.
Fuck what is it with all these remakes? The industry is basically turning into Hollywood
