That Nintendo didn’t buy them already is telling though. It may very well be that Microsoft’s acquisitions were the impetus for it, and that it’s only the first of more acquisitions for Nintendo.
Absolutely. This game might make FROM a household name. I used to talk to all my gamer friends about how good Demon’s was Souls back in 2009. No one had heard of it. Amazing to see how far they’ve come.
Nintendo doesn’t really need to IMO. Their biggest sellers are already made in house or by studios that already mostly develop for Nintendo, or a Japanese demographic where Nintendo is basically unopposed.
Comments come after a story starts trending tho
Metacritic has is at 89, there are 4 bad reviews and they're all the hottest stories on n4g???
DS2 > DS3
Agreed. Re: Halo it’s taken over a decade to produce something near the level of Bungie quality and the franchise is tired AF by now. Their subscription model for gaming is problematic to say the least. Gamers are shortsighted; Because the service is so young, it can only cater to the games already available, but video streaming services are an indication of what will happen. We can expect development and content to shift towards catering to a subscription service and all the problems those c...
@Godmars920 AB doesn’t publish Battlefield
At the same time, Bungie will likely make new exclusive IP and exclusive content for multiplat games for Sony though. No way they paid $3.6B for more Destiny. Just look at what Microsoft has done with Bethesda.
Microsoft is basically forcing Sony’s hand though. This is a big acquisition but nothing near the scale of Activision Blizzard. I’d hoping to to see Sony buy up some smaller prestige studios in the near future.
Invalid, you're not allowed to disagree with the xbox hive mind
@partaytime I don't even think of halo as being in the same category. I was just entertaining someone else's comparison. GTFO with that nonsense. If I have a Sony bias it's only because I got tired of Halo, Gears and Forza. Halo hasn't been good in a long ass time and it may finally be good again but I'm onto other things now.
I think part of the reason Returnal is goty material and not halo is because it does more with less. You know the budget for Halo was 'infinitely' larger than Returnal's and just how long has it taken 343 to make a halo as good as the decades old Bungie games? I think storytelling, art direction, sound design and music were all top notch. The 3rd person bullet hell thing is fresh. Addicting and easy to put 100+ hours into. It's an amazing game all things considered.
With renting your options are not limited by licensure, so there's that. $6300 may sound like a lot, but a significant portion of that is represented by indie games, old games, and genres that won't appeal to the user but actually $6300 isn't that high a number. I'm actually surprised it's that low.
Yeah reboots and sequels are legitimate use of old IP, remakes are even OK some times but not in the volume and frequency we are seeing them lately. It's one thing if they lead to revitalization of the franchise and future sequels, but that's been the exception rather than the rule so far. It's mostly capitalizing on nostalgia and blatant cash grabbing.
So what? Sequels and especially new IP are the lifeblood of the industry. There are too many remakes released / announced as of late: Dead Space, KotoR, Diablo 2, Demon's Souls, Link's Awakening, etc. etc. etc. These are big budget games that take valuable resources and energy away from the development of new games, discourage innovation and novelty in the industry, and mostly exist because they are less risky and more lucrative for publishers / investors. Same shit has been happening...
If it's FROM soft I'll take it. I'll basically take anything FROM soft though
