Ummm the term is 'souls-like'. The way I see it Darks Souls has a better reputation simply because it was multiplat, more people played it, it had name recognition, and built on the formula established in Demon's Souls.

No, Sony doesn’t need Japanese developers to compete with Microsoft. It needs large scale western developer acquisitions. Bungie a huge win for them. Microsoft still hasn’t matched the quality of their Halo titles (with any of their first party titles really) after years of trying.

Souls games aren't a huuuuge money maker (maybe the exception is Elden Ring but that's new and we don't know how many copies it will sell total), just look at top grossing games of the last decade. It's because Souls games represent a paradigm shift. Difficult and deep combat, parrying/rolling, requires learning enemy patterns, unique death mechanic, dark atmosphere, messages/invasions, optional storytelling, etc. It's just really good and makes older / other games look bo...
I think that’s a bit reductive. Sales indicate future success and continued support of the platform. Look at Xbox one or Wii U. I think Microsoft’s recent expenditures and growing gamepass library have really bolstered hardware sales. I think there is some concern about Sony doing enough to keep up with Microsoft, that their investment in the platform is protected, and sales figures are one of the best indicators for that.

Honestly that was broken AF. Such high damage output for such little fp consumption and few points into intelligence, Frost stomp too. arcane and bleed weapons / swarm of flies is still viable though, and with mimic tear one of the most op setups in the game.
I hear you, but I generally watch speedruns after getting my fulfillment of a game. Inspires me to go back and play them in a different way.
