@John_McClane Maybe, we'll see. I think it comes down to games, and these exclusive deals haven't produced anything game-changing. If they can't branch out to games that aren't shooters or typical western RPGs, they're just occupying a niche that leaves plenty of room for Sony to keep doing its thing. Also, I think Microsofts strategy will inevitably lead more people to PC and Sony still at the top of the console game.

Do it

@Helios I’m saying Metroid doesn’t need the kinds of gimmicks and fresh takes that Mario, Zelda, and other Nintendo franchises get right now. A remake of Super or a return to that style would feel fresh in itself because of the direction the series has gone in.

2D Metroid doesn't need innovation, most fans actually feel the opposite and would like to see a return to the Super Metroid. It's good to have more 2D Metroid and I hope it does well so that Super Metroid remake becomes more likely and opens the door to better Metroid games.

@Ron_Danger Except that my opinion is based entirely on impressions I got from the e3 show and the 2021 lineup for gamepass that released shortly thereafter. No articles / journos involved. As I already said, 25 games can mean a lot of things. Indie, VR, etc. Not necessarily AAA blockbusters. I just don't get hyped by promises, sorry. Also, I don't think the next event is necessarily Experience. They registered a trademark, but historically those happen at the end of the year. And ye...

Let me note that I'm not an xbox fanboy, and just looking at this objectively / playing devil's advocate. Xbox Series X|S is just starting to gain momentum. Sony came out strong with a handful of PS5 exclusives but games sell best at release when hype is at its peak. Sony needs a consistent rollout and rn the big one is Horizon, but we don't have a release date. Xbox just announced a really good lineup for gamepass, and has halo coming in November. People are gong to start wanting...

@Ron_Danger Man n4g readers are total retards. It seems like you're implying that I'm a xbox fanboy or something!? I just said I want to see the unannounced stuff; 25 games could mean a lot of different things. Neither of us can deny Microsoft is in a good position coming out of e3, so the ball is back in Sony's court so to speak, and there's no reason to believe Microsoft won't be selling every Series X/S that comes available too. It just seems like you guys can't han...

This is based on my personal impressions following e3 and realizing many of the Sony announced games have already happened. I'm just thirsty for the next Sony event, and acknowledging that Microsoft is in a pretty good position rn w/ halo and what they are doing with gamepass. Sony needs to get people excited for the near future.

I'm expecting this to be true for Xbox as well. Sony is at kind of a hype lull atm, and gamepass is really tempting. I'm curious to see the next state of play.

Many PS exclusives have sequels though. I think the distinction here is that Sony just has more exclusives. Some series aren't worth continuing, don't make sense from a financial or even development (imagine that!) standpoint. Maybe Insomniac don't want to do another Resistance game.

This is a pretty weak argument IMO. What about Horizon, Little Big Planet, TLOU, etc. etc. etc. One could even look at Bloodborne as a sequel to Demon's Souls, or Returnal as an opportunity for a developer to grow from arcade shooters like Resogun. Microsoft has their share of letdowns too

Elden Ring cross play please

1719d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I will probably invest in a new gaming PC if the reviews are good, but only because I want to play Elden Ring with mods too. I don't think it will lead to buying an xbox or subscribing to gamepass. I buy consoles for exclusives and only buy a few games a year and like to play them at my own pace and replay them. I don't really think these exclusive announcements are ultimately the direction Microsoft is going, I think they're just trying to get Xbox adoption rate up. It's a bi...

Yeah, artificial scarcity at this point in the console cycle / wars is a joke.

I just don't understand why it needs to exist. It looks like a mish mash of so many different things w/ no real identity

@TheRealTedCruz. I think it's smart to hype next gen consoles and experiences. Microsoft is still learning. We talked about this on another thread, but I don't think all of Microsoft's exclusive announcements will be exclusive in the long run. Also, the way they announce some games leads to the erroneous conclusion that they are exclusive. It's very much hype generation and marketing at this point in the console cycle / wars. That being said, I also think Sony has possibly tak...

But Demon's Souls already released on PS5 as a next gen experience?

1721d ago 3 agree2 disagreeView comment

Seems very unlikely IMO, more like demon's souls remake started development on PS4 and that information has now leaked. It would increase sales sure, but as much work went into setting a graphical benchmark and iconic next gen experience, I don't see how downgrading the game can preserve its reputation. IDK maybe I'm wrong. It definitely deserves to have more people play it.

For sure! I mean it's been such a long time since a proper Metroid game was made that is both cannon and gets the AAA / main platform treatment it deserves. I think a lot of gamers probably don't know what to expect and already find the price increase of the experience a bit risky.
