Other than the repetition in missions that everyone has pointed out, one other thing that hardly gets mentioned about ac that really needs to be adddressed is the utterly broken combat system.
The sword fights involve absolutely no skill or strategy and are ridiculously easy. You can either just tap x over and over again until your opponent dies, or wait and time a simple one hit counter move thats an instant kill. Also, the ai is the worst i've seen since tenchu z. You can kill...
Do yourself a favor and play the other ones, especially mgs3.
Half the enjoyment I'm getting out of mgs4 right now is the completion of the amazing story from the others, and seeing all of the old surviving characters making great comebacks. Playing mgs4 without having played the others is like reading only the last chapter of a great book. mgs4 is that much better taken in context with the others.
I really hope the gameplay is top notch, because it definitely isn't the best looking game out there. Having to start all over with a whole new graphics engine must have been tough though.

Exactly. I don't even like halo 3's multiplayer and I sold the game months ago, but from what little multiplayer I did play, the features and matchmaking were so well done, nothing even comes close.

I honestly couldn't care less about the single player. SC has always been all about the vs mode for me. The cpu ai is never as fun as playing another person, and if the online play is lag free with a good match making system i'll be playing sc4 to death this august.

Oblivion is the same kind of free roaming rpg and it looks far better than fable and it came out two years ago.
I had a controller from madcatz way back in the day. It was a total piece of crap and I ended up just throwing it out. I've never bought any 3rd party hardware since then. I'd suggest anyone considering these to just go with the higher quality version.
I agree with the op. I'm not a huge rpg fan, I usually just stick with ff and the occasional western rpg. But mass effect was decent, and while sonata, bd and lo were average rpgs and weren't worth it for me, they at least give gamers who like the genre an option.

Ok, aside from having one of the best plots in gaming, a completely unique setting and style and top notch presentation, just focusing solely on the gameplay i'd say all of this sets bioshock apart from the generic fps games that flood the market.
-The leveling up system for the guns. Instead of just finding new/better weapons as you progressed, you could use items to upgrade your weapons and tailor them to fit your style of play

There was no real hype about sotc until well after the release, and even then, it was hype amoung gamers only. sotc is like the donnie darko of gaming in that way. a huge cult following, but no real mainstream hype.
i personally though ico was the better game, but they're both great works of art in gaming.

Yea.. i'll agree w/ joy on this one. I love the mgs series, unlike some of the haters here i've played every game in the series, and mgs3 ranks as a top 5 all time game for me, and i'll be picking up mgs4 tomorow to play over the weekend.. but seriously, some of the ps3 only owners are way too sensitive about any little criticism on this game. mgs appeals to a certain type of gamer only, and those outside the fanbase will have their critiques (long cut scenes, stealth, weird kojima humor etc)...
Exclusives are almost always better. Whether they're for the ms, nintendo, sega or sony consoles. The devs take the time to craft the game for one system, and the results show. This gen has been great so far, but the one thing I dislike is the amount of multiplatform games vs exclusives. Too many series have gone multiplatform, and the quality suffers as a result. Just think of all the top games you've enjoyed as gamers over the years, i'll bet most were console exclusives.
Thats an outright lie.. 50% of the game is not cutscenes. And I find it pretty funny that after months and months of incessant fanboy prattle about the ps3 not having an exclusive game with a 90% or above gameranking store, mgs4 comes along with a higher score well over 90 thats better than any 360 exclusive and you point to one of the lone negative reviews and say thats the "real" review.
