I totally agree. Triss is a great, engaging female character who is powerful while retaining her femininity. These days, it seems that all many feminists are asking for are those like Cassandra in DA:I.

"Strong female representation" should not be considered unanimously good PR.

It should just be a design choice which some people will like more than others. A lot of devs right now will make these decisions in fear of having Twitter mobs harass them, journalists berate their game unfairly or have petitions demand their product be removed from shelves (see GTAV removed from Target Australia).

Even still, you'll not that nobody is going to bully t...

And so they give in to the feminist zealots, like so many other devs. Looks like I'll be avoiding another game on principle.

What's the obsession with "strong women"?

What's wrong with women as they *are*; a variety of normal people who are both strong and weak, emotional and logical, independent and dependent?

Why must devs portray the feminist ideal of the world and not the world just, as it is? By all means make femal...

Reduce Scale: Done on time; less game; few bugs.

Keep scale and delay: Delayed; more game; few bugs

The latter is the superior option for us. They won't do it, because they'll want to maintain earnings forecasts, but it's the superior option.

The scale is fine. Dragon Age is huge but runs well.

They need to delay it if they need more time.

Feminists should learn from this.

The way to get games made for you is prove a market exists by funding them or making them yourselves; not to intimidate devs into making things which you like at the expense of others.

As for ethics in games journalism; this was just the spark which lit the fuse. Gamergate has progressed to largely be an opposition to seemingly unfair feminist intrusion into a medium which they do not even play. The link is that almost all journalists seem to be unquestioning feminists who dismiss opposing views and work together to suppress those who express them. These are dirty, unethical tactics in their own right.

I don't think Sarkeesian is a monster. I am of the ...

This is the problem; you assert there is sexism without evidence. The feminist critics do exactly the same. As for pointing out 'sexist' features in games: What you call sexism, I call market segmentation.

The internet variety of feminism is intellectually bankrupt, morally elitist and resorts to dirty tactics and general nastiness to achieve its flawed goal.

We all want a fair society, but internet feminists lack the wisdom to know what fairness actu...

Feminism has ruined peoples' lives (Matt Taylor for example).

And let's not forget that gamergate was a response to the modern, pernicious form of authoritarian, intimidating feminism.

I hope they do.

It serves as a litmus test for idiots, being satirical.

Well this most certainly is not a satirical article. I mean it's totally reasonable to believe that these kids have been picked up for a book by a publishing company, and even have the resources to fund their own court cases.

And this post was of course entirely serious, without a hint of sarcasm...

The same people will be declaring "first black president" in 2030 when the next one is elected.

Stupidity seems to be going around these days.

An academic is someone who works at a university, undertaking teaching and research.

A scholar is someone who is well-read.

Anita Sarkeesian is neither (and by the looks of it, the same can be said of the author of this article).

Her academic achievements are pretty average at best, and she is not the "greatest adversary" of the games industry; that title goes to the stupid PR people/devs who actually buy this tosh and make changes ...

I think this is satire.

If not, only 0.3% of the US population are transgender, so in a fair society, we would expect about a 1/300 chance that any given protagonist in a game set in the modern USA would be transgender.

Games need more characters like Dorian because he's an awesome character; not because he's gay.
Games are not social justice propaganda; they are an entertainment medium.

Why can't DLC do both?

Looking at economic theory, once we begin to expect certain things of DLC, we will pay less for the base game, meaning profits remain the same either way.

We do, of course, pay more for more content, and for games which we expect to offer free DLC.

Thus in the long term, we will always pay for games based on how much we value their content. No matter what EA or anyone else does, it won't matter.
