To be honest, they would have been fine with an AO rating, at least on PC.
Most (all?) of their sales are digital, and Steam, GMG and Gamersgate would surely have stocked the game regardless of its rating.
We need AO to become acceptable, and a game such as this could have driven that forward.
Sadly, I expect that this move was entirely due to Apple behaving like a fool around nudity (Steve Jobs was a prude), and the game's iOS port.
Well I hate violence, nudity (including naked faces) and profanity. So in my morality, all characters should wear headscarves, nobody should be harmed, and there should be no swearing. Also visual representation of meat and weaponry should be removed because they're against my morality.
People should respect my morality.
Now that was a joke, but I hope you see my point about the morals of the 99% taking precedence. Pandering to one group means forsaking a...
So what?
Maybe that's just the way acting is going these days. If people do not like it, they can try some other career, such as business, the medical profession or journalism.
Many actors do not like baring all, but many actually do. The industry is changing, and what is beneficial to one type of person is costly to another.
I don't see the problem.
Look at it this way:
Great storyline + boobs >>> Great storyline + no boobs
But on a more serious note, the nudity, like th violence, is very much part of the atmosphere. It creates a world which comes across as quite "dark", and at present, the games seem like a prudish cousin to the TV show and books.
Darkride66 why are you doing this?
Do you think you're some kind of social justice paladin by making people who like certain types of games and don't want to be insulted about it miserable?
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, let's not forget. Most of tha hatred seems to be coming from the doxxers who leeched onto GG and the SJWs who view the movement as some sort of primal, satanic evil force,
In other news...
Moral hubris in journalism is reaching record levels.
Quite ironic that this article makes reference to the game "Beyond Good and Evil" while asserting a dualistic view of morality itself.
Progression is pushing boundaries.
This game, distasteful as it is, does exactly that. Thus, it is an icon of the industry's progression.
This is the thing.
Diversity can be great in video games, as long as it is not forced.
Egotistical SJWs literally created a problem for themselves to solve and "be the hero" of. Quite reminds me of the plot of Majesty 2 actually.
Ugh. The Wolf Among Us was great, but not because it adhered to some stupid socio-political idea. It's almost as if these people see right through an excellent plotmwith great gameplay, and jump straight to ticking boxes (female protagonist, strong, independent etc.).
I'm sick and tired of these uneducated sophists judging other people and taking credit for the victories of others. These people genuinely think that they're heroic warriors; it would be laughable if...
Indeed. When SJWs know they have lost the argument, they simply attempt to demonise their opponents so that nobody will dare to argue against them. The best way to kill good arguments is to intimidate the people who would speak them through creating a climate of fear.
People don't complain about Wolfenstein, where you kill a certain dictator they don't agree with :p
But seriously those women just aren't very nice people, at least in their public visage. They're judgmental and bigoted, which is why a lot of people don't like them very much.
I think it was a tasty move from Valve.
Saying this move was "weak" simply doesn't make much sense, in the same way my above opinion does not make much sense.
If giving in to your customers is "weak", then companies which ignore or even acta against us (like EA and Ubisoft in the past) are "strong".
So you are implying that it is good to be a "weak" company and bad to be a "strong" compan...
"People that support this game should be ashamed at the fact that they're supporting a team of [INSERT POLITICAL BELIEF HERE], which is a voice that should never be represented in any form of media."
Why is anyone else's belief inferior to yours or mine? I mean look, it's fine you disagree with their belief and don't want to support them yourself (you might favour games from people you agree with), but you cannot say on an objective level that any be...
I slightly lost interest in this game when some arrogant, lowly side-plot author who started telling them to change their representation of women to be more "correct" shamelessly started banging on about how they made women more "strong and independent" at his behest.
This promising game has unfortunately been infected by a flawed notion of social justice. We can only hope that the story has not been damaged too largely as a result.
@Ashlen
Indeed they do, but it would be highly worrying when a firm with monopolistic power like Valve takes moral-political stances.
These days, if you're not on Steam or Origin, you pretty much don't exist.
Freedom of speech implies that you can say what you want without it ruining your life. Either Valve allow this sort of thing, or we start thinking about how to reduce their market power.
True.
I can only hope that petitions like these make large companies aware that dealing with feminist flak is better than neglecting the core fanbase.
The game box would come with a knife so you could cut out your tongue, blind yourself and puncture your ear drums.
That way you cannot participate in society, and therefore, you cannot be misogynist.
Indeed, and I would say we've seen a lot of this sort of thing for Mass Effect, given how highly anticipated it is.
It's almost getting to be a pain trying to find actual information on it these days, with articles like this springing up every week or so.
Thank you very much for that intelligent contribution...
A thinker gives something the benefit of the doubt before judging it. They ask the question "is my opinion biased?"; they ask "am I missing something which makes the status quo great?".
The preacher is just an instrument for ignorance, being guilty of confirmation bias, and failure to even bother trying to reject any semblance of a null hypothesis, leading to type 1 errors in abundance. The preacher asserts "this is bad, how can I make people agree wi...
