For most people, nostalgia factor is put ahead of reason. My first FF game was 9 so I accept that perhaps I might be overrating it.
Also, we need to judge games as they are now, and not when they first came out so that rankings are actually useful to people. The 2D Final Fantasy games just aren't that great anymore. I found 7 unplayable due to the shockingly bad graphics (I'm eagerly awaiting the remake, however, so I can enjoy the story).
If all ...
To be honest, 6 is a bit old.
I played it just a couple of months ago, and while it's quite interesting, the 2D Final Fantasies have pretty generic worlds.
It also probably beats everything before 6 because when it comes down to it, those games are quite dated.
I mean, they're OK, but 15 is far better simply due to the superior gameplay.
Final Fantasy 9 is my favourite game of all time. I'm replaying it now, and I can still marvel at the incredible charm the game has. I played 4, 6 and 7 but much preferred 9.
Also, if you think 15 is as bad as the bland corridor mess that was 13, you don't know what you're talking about.
These days, the backlash is because nobody knows whether they're in the game for artistic reasons or political.
And people don't like games being political propaganda. There's nothing wrong with black characters per se, but the social justice people have made it seem like they're all forced in to "teach people to not be racist", which invites backlash.
When the social justice people die down, so too will the controversy, and each...
As long as they're fully-detailed characters like any other, and not clear addons like those from the first trilogy.
The Witcher 3 is the same.
The game was complete at launch, but if they're willing to make it betterment for free, we should not be criticising the, under some notion of it being "unfair".
I mean what's the solution? They don't release extra content? Charge for it as DLC? Release the game much later?
All terrible solutions. It's not "unfair" to anyone, but it is inconvenient - let's avoid convinci...
No, they won't ruin it. I expect they'll produce a great game, taking from the lessons learned with FFXV.
But fans won't receive it well because nostalgia is a powerful force, and nobody is EVER going to be able to provide them with the same experience they had when they were 10 years old, because that's physically impossible.
So it'll probably be an exceptional game. It'll get low reviews from all the die-hard FF7 fans who will sa...
I wonder if we'll be able to go Targaryen ;)
Final Fantasy is not about the gameplay. It has never been about the gameplay.
It has always been about three things:
1. The exploration + interesting world
2. The music
3. The cheesy and cliched yet endearing stories
I've played FF4, FF6, FF9, FF10, FF10-2, and FF13 within the past few years, and in my opinion, these are what make the games so fun.
The combat has always sucked, and this has been...
And then marks the game down for running poorly on Xbox One O_o
The problem is that we all have a scale inside our heads for what a "90" is like compared to a "85".
The fact is that games reviews have been using a similar scale for the past two decades, and you can't just change it now because people are used to the traditional scales.
Here's another thought: no matter what you say, someone will be offended by it.
As long as your intent is not to make people upset, I see no problem.
'member when people didn't have sticks up their arses?
People who apologise for this sort of thing are part of the problem. When the apologies stop, so will the complaints.
What they don't realise is that Trump was a reaction to them.
The harder they push the more damage they do to their own cause. It's like they have no idea how to treat other people as human beings with ideas no inherently less valuable than their own. They have no capacity to tolerate, which is stunningly ironic.
Because their goal now is to indoctrinate people into their ideology.
They no longer create games to make people happy. All they're interested in is correcting wrongthink.
I am one person. I demand as much representation as the other 7 billion people on this planet.
Every game should feature 50% of characters in my likeness, because if they don't, I'm being underrepresented.
There's no such thing as "too far".
Great art provokes strong emotions. "Shock" is a valid form of art.
What about the attack helicopter gender? I'm going to rage on Tumblr if they don't have aliens identifying as such.
FF13 was boring corridor gameplay with the occasional decent cutscene.
