Simplicity is not the same as basic. Basic implies lack of features, and only has the minimum i.e. it has "basic" features.

Simple means, it has been made easier to use, but it still can have advanced, or even premium features.

If you didn't jump to conclusion based on the title and read the article, you would know they are talking about third parties accessing your facial image and more importantly the 3D representation of your face. In fact, it is just key points to faceprint you, more than an actual 3D image of your face.

The title of the article is misleading, so there you have it!

Next time read moare, write less....

Paul has a point, and spinning it off would make the consumer division more like a startup and more responsible for it's spending.

It can attract more innovative youngsters that will propel the company further, like what Google did and later Facebook.

MS problem is they are a matured company.

On the other hand, without MS humongus resources, something like Kinect would likely never be made. The type of experience, know-how, technology, ...

Forza series has consistently been innovative and pioneered their own way. Why try and copy somebody else if they don't think it is necessary!

That is like saying GT doesn't have the same type of customization as Forza.

Are you saying PC isn't good at anything either?

Surely it is possible to design one box that is good at many things. It just takes more time, and I think the Xbox One seemingly makes excellent tradeoffs to achieve said goals.

You and a host of other people misunderstood the meaning of "ugly", it isn't meant to be worse than "bad".

It is meant to be about weird or uncategorizable things. The author covers this in the article comments.

Kinect for gaming is one of the best ideas out there.

I'm so excited for Kinect One:

“This is not gesture detection. It’s full analogue mastery – where games can see subtle movements such as a twist of the wrist or a lean in the spine, the type of precision that allows a gamer to really perfect their skills to master the game,” says Evans. "

It's insane that MS now knows the body and the way it works, not just figuring out the ge...

@MMEHTA:

One of the issues will be that they when Kinect needs the resource it doesn't have it causing the system to stutter or something similar.

This sort of thing means code has to be re-written to accommodate for the performance envelope changing. Also, MS probably wants to make sure they can support all the features and innovations they want before releasing those resources.

It would suck if you run into a situation like the PS3 who ...

It means that the software is designed to expect 10% GPU allocation for Kinect. If you remove that, you don't know what systems will fail without proper code-review, rewrite and testing.

During launch, when you are trying to get features out, it is a bad idea to re-engineering things. MS already had to do this with going back to stone age physical discs.

They are probably also trying to get all their development tools for the finalized hardware out.

This means ad on the dashboard on PS4!

Sony already advertises their games everywhere, and the store is an advertisement itself. Only place left unexplored is the dashboard.

I think MS has a pretty smart plan and intentionally released Titanfall in March.

Think about it, every console from now until holidays is sold out and allocated. There is no need to be concerned about pushing consoles until early next year. Bam, Project Sparc and Titanfalls drops!

After that, there are Quantum Break and so on. It seems the line-up is pretty strong!

@heavy:

although, I do think frame rate is important to a certain point i.e. that it is stable and responsive, the resolution is pretty low on my list of things to care.

More importantly to me as an online gamer is that I get dedicated server on every game to avoid the dreaded lag.

No matter how beatiful a game is, anger sets in like nothing else when your game starts skipping causing you to loose, when you shouldn't have!

KZ Shadowfall is shaping up to be a pretty good graphical game.

Just crossing my fingers they will do something about the shoddy P2P multiplayer and hope they add dedicated servers.

Maybe Sony paid Activison to F'up CoD on Xbox One after MS cozied up with EA.

That might explain why he knows! =D

You keep telling yourself that, but a Virtual Server instance can be the entire resource of one computer.

Heck one of MS VM instances can be larger than a gamer PC with hundreds of GB of RAM. Point is it is a moving target, and as much power as you need, Azure can provide it as long as you an afford it!

I see there are a lot of people here who does not understand cloud.

Notice Zampella carefully said "backend", that in tech lingo means same hardware (or in this case facility).

What makes the cloud great for Xbox One and not as much on other platforms are the tools MS built specifically for the X1. Cloud is simply a set of tools and infrastructure geared towards massive computing power. How robust these tools are and how easy they are enables devs t...

I donæt think there is any doubt when both the publisher and the developer says it is *lifetime* exclusive.

Better wait for Titanfalls 2, but it might go the way of Gears of War exclusivity.

Mass Effect was not confirmed *lifetime* exclusive. It clearly was just time exclusive at best, but hey even if titanfalls come to PS4, we would have all moved onto something better.
