@flunkin:

Of course business take into account pre-order numbers. Why wouldn't they?

My point is, the real demand is hard to gauge when your product sells out.

If you only have 10 and sell out, while the competition has a 100, but does not sell out. Does it mean the competition is in less than demand than you?

Point being sold out is efficiently gauging market demand, it merely means demand exceeds supply in the short te...

@gentleman:

It is real!

Did you see the below cloud rendered stuff?

"CloudLight maps the traditional graphics pipeline onto a distributed system. That differs from a single-machine renderer in three fundamental ways. First, the mapping introduces potential asymmetry between computational resources available at the Cloud and local device sides of the pipeline. Second, compared to a hardware memory bus, the network introduces relatively la...

I know, it looks like a hybrid Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Wii with PC like connectivity in the back.

For some reason it doesn't say exquisite like Xbox One or PS4 though.

That said, the real question is what the heck is the SteamBox? I still don't understand what it really is.

I remember disliking the analogue stick on the N64, and never really got used to it again until the original Xbox.

People always resist change even when it is clearly better. Like sheep they have to see the benefits and then take their time to get used to it.

No mention for Windows Phone :(

@Flunkin:

Did you read the story?

"In comparison, the 2005 Xbox 360 launch year saw 1.5 million in unit sales but then began to pick up steam over the years. In fact, Xbox 360 sales figures in 2013 were actually higher, selling 1.6 million units."

So we know what happened there, right?

Remember when Tretton famously claimed that he would pay you $1200 for a PS3 if you could find it in store?

Pre-order only tells part of the story *WHEN* the supply exceed the demand. Otherwise, all you know is the product is in demand and you sold out. You don't know how much you would have sold if you had more.

Also pointed out in the article is the weaker Xbox 360 launch, but quickly gained steam so even the initial demand in the grand scheme of things is relatively unimportant.

I wonder why the choice was to stick with 1080p instead of steady frame rate?

Certainly decreasing the resolution a little wouldn't matter in the whole scheme of things, but frame rate is very jarring.

CoD has always been about that steady and fast frame rate for fluid feel.

How often have you had your internet go out for more than a few hours, let alone a day?

To me that is almost unheard of, unless it is a major disaster, but then you have bigger things to worry about than gaming.....

Sony is not a money greedy and never concerns themselves about their business. They only think of their consumers best, and that is why they removed MP3 and DLNA support. /sarcasm

I would love to wake up and say:

Xbox On
Xbox Play Vevo

and my day starts with TV on playing Vevo!

No looking for remote and no fuss. Just instantly on!

In the US there are more competition forcing prices lower, as well as the fact that buying power in Europe relative to other currency is better.

This means in general products in Europe cost more than in the US, although they are all manufactured in mostly Asian countries.

Electronic buying power in Europe is better than in the US.

Sony already stated that they are loosing money on every PS4 sold and I'm assuming they meant US at the tim...

Well, it is more than that as well.

Sony's sale of their building caused them to post a profit, but the company has and is still in decline. The Playstation business has recently been their bright spot, but even that bright spot has been barely lit, meaning relatively small profit.

With more losses on each PS4 sold to attempt to price compete with MS, they are going to have further losses. Their biggest areas are TVs, Music, Movies and Playstation.

Generally, journalists don't get to keep the PS4 they get for review. A lot of times they have to return the item up for review to prevent favoritism and so on.

Except Marcus Beer put forths many good points.

I don't see anything that ruins Marcus' credibility at all. In fact, I find it refreshing he goes on screen and says what is really going on behind the scenes, without the fluff and hype.

4530d ago 7 agree32 disagreeView comment

Yeah, I don't understand that. Technically with a higher resolution and a hardware upscaler, it should upscale nicely on the PS4.

Instead, we get we blurry pics on the PS4, compared to the Xbox One. It must be some really sh!tty hardware scaler or something....

I'm hugely meh for cloud streamed gaming.

I don't see the point, as it has already been pioneered by the bankrupt OnLive and it was anything, but a good experience.

How is this going to be any different?

There certainly hasn't been any leaps in technology to make this a viable alternative to what we currently have. Sony would have been better off investing these into a cloud computing.

At least there, you can o...

I used to respect GAF, but over time the real truth comes out how it is really run behind the scenes.

It is more an elitist joining of members, than a real public forum. As you said, if the mods don't like what you say, they find ridiculous excuses to ban you. I see this over and over, which keeps the entire site one-track minded.

At least MS intended for this feature to be there instead of the competition trying to screw you over and doing a 180 when consumers complain.

Why does that sound familiar?

Oh, Sony really isn't that different from MS.

You are talking to deaf ears.

The sales will speak for themselves, and right now every unit is allocated and sold. I think when the dust settles into next year is when we know if any of the consoles are overpriced.

So far only the Wii U seems over priced, but even that isn't for sure yet. The PS Vita though is overpriced, as nobody is really buying it.
