Honestly, any attempt to select five games out of the huge list of anticipated 2009 titles is going to disappoint most gamers. Still, the absence of ANY PS exclusives does throw the balance of this list off.

Why all the shock at the inclusion of Punch-Out!!! on the list? It will probably ultimately sell more copies than most of the other titles listed, as it's going to be purchased by the current crop of Wii Sports obsessees, old timers who remember the originals, and all of the ...

Why do you assume that interface would be on the screen at all times?

The pictures are hard to interpret, since they're crude concept sketches, but I assumed that interface would only pop up when the player turned it on or selected it.

Wow, what is it lately with N4G and legitimately interesting news stories with titles that totally misrepresent their content and start needless flame wars?

If you read the title and the comments, you would think this article was about how the next Zelda would be a Young Link Goes to the Hyrule Carnival mini-games collection.

In fact, it is about a patent that may have nothing to do with Zelda or "casual gaming" (whatever that means now). (Although the pict...

This article was given a very unfortunate title.

It really isn't primarily about the fate of the PS3. There is almost no speculation in the article about whether or not the system is, as the title advertises, "doomed."

It is actually a very interesting article about the corporate culture of Sony (the whole company, not just the games division)that is trying to address why it (once against, the larger company, not the PS3) is beginning to struggle. The Plays...

Last I heard, the rumored release window was May '09, so that would be Q2 rather than Q1.

Also, this is a UK release list, so many titles (possibly including The Conduit) will be released at different times in the U.S.

This is, hands down, the best article about race and video games that I have read.

It really pushes the discussion beyond the "video games are racist"/"no they're not, stop hatin'" dichotomy that has dominated the debate thus far. It even includes multiply perspectives on how to address the issue of diversity in gaming.

Personally, I don't think it is a matter of racism by intent--like segregation or minstrelsy or any other cases of overt racism--...

Excellent response Mahr. Thanks to you, I don't totally regret clicking on this article.

Now, I do think that Nintendo uses shortages to help to stimulate demand for the Wii. That's a smart, if ruthless, way to help to keep console sales high during the slower periods, since it creates some spillover of consumers who failed to obtain systems during times of high demand and low supply. It also helps to reinforce the hype surrounding the product, as obtaining one feels like an acco...

Check out the full review.

They lavish all kinds of praise on the game, particularly on its depth. The only major faults they find are a problematic camera and some iffy button mapping. Honestly, it reads more like an 8.0 review than a 7.5. I sort of suspect it lost half a point for not being a "true" Castlevania title.

I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it, as there a lot of big games coming out this month, but it doesn't sound bad at all, regardless.

Oh right. I tend to confuse those projects.

I wonder if the old FFCC project morphed into that one.

Let's not freak out yet.

There have been so many contradictory rumors about this game. Wasn't it just recently that we were sure it was canceled and then SE started hyping it again?

That's not to say it isn't dead. I just wouldn't place too much stock in a rumor in a gaming magazine (and a second rate one at that). Once we get this from multiple sources with some evidence to back it up I'll believe it. Until then, I'm prepared to wait and see.

I will say...

If I were not a Nintendo loyalist and if the system were more affordable or a I had a larger disposable income, LBP would probably be the game to convince me to buy a PS3.

That said, I don't think Sackboy will ever replace Mario, because we simply don't live in an era where mascots are as essential or prolific as they once were. Even Mario is more a seal of quality than a system seller. Nintendo sells far more systems based on the Wi's control interface than on Mario's face. And ...

I've been wondering the same thing. As far as I know, there hasn't been an announcement about this yet.

However, it is being released in Europe as a retail game to be sold in stores--as opposed to a WiiWare release--and this version of the game is supposed to include a fifth chapter in addition to the four included in the North American version. I wouldn't be surprised if this chapter is released as DLC for those of us with the WiiWare version sometime in the future.

My big surprise from this article:

The Wii's ratio (5.5) is almost indentical to the PS3's (5.3). I expected it to be considerably lower, given the perception that many consumers buy the system only for Wii Sports and/or Wii Fit.

Perhaps the fact that Wii games are, on average, cheaper than those of their competitors, encourages more sales than you would expect.

As far as the Xbox ratio is concerned, this doesn't surprise me for North America. It does n...

This seems like a solution that makes sense for the system. Considering the variety and size of the downloadable games available for the Wii, a hard drive would be unnecessarily large, bulky, and expensive compared to having a collection of 1 GB SD cards.

That said, I will admit that Nintendo probably should have done this earlier, as they've taken a lot of criticism (and probably lost money in VC/WiiWare game sales) due to the absence of a way to expand the system's storage capa...

This is great news, of course.

Funny Nintendo opted to announce these titles now. Had they done it at E3, we would have all been saved two months of whining and taunting. Oh well.

Here's what I want to know:

Punch Out!!: Will there be balance board support, as rumored? And, if so, will the balance board be required to play? And, if it is, could it be packed in with the game? I'd rather pay $90-100 for a Punch-Out!!/Balance Board set than $90 for Wii Fit ...

I'm not sure why this would make you angry. If you prefer the GC version of these games, you can always find them on eBay, and, as you said, the Wii fully supports them.

Personally, I like the idea of Wiimakes of these games, because I did not own a GameCube (I skipped the last generation of consoles) and thus have no GC controllers or memory cards, and I'm not eager to buy them. As such, Wii versions of these games that are compatible with the Wiimote/Nunchuck or Classic Control...

If this is true, and it may very well not be, I think this is actually a fairly smart move by Nintendo, since there's a chance that by 2011, not only will HD TVs be affordable enough for most consumers to own, but they'll also be able to make a console with HD capacity and still sell it for $250 at a profit.

Neither of those circumstances were in place for this generation, and that is one of the reasons why it was wise for Nintendo to pass on HD for Wii, at least from a profit p...

I got de Blob a few days ago. It's great fun. It sort of reminds me of the quirky games that DMA used to release for the N64.

If Nintendo does announce any new games at their press conference, they will probably be for 2009, not this holiday season.

That said, I do think they will probably give us an American release date for Disaster at the event.

Where are the games released prior to the last two generations of consoles?

Granted, the games that list are all attractive, but I think its totally unfounded to act as if beautiful games were created with the PS2/GCN/Xbox. The SNES and Genesis, particularly, had some games that were visually stunning. And even the N64, with all of its graphical quirks, produced a few beautiful games like Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64.
