Is anyone arguing that point?

I think even the most ardent Wii fanboy would admit that the system is the reigning king of shovelware. (Although the DS is at least nobility.)

What Wii fans tend to disagree with are claims that the system only has shovelware. It's not about the quantity of bad games. It's the quantity of good games that is in debate.

Honestly, this could be the next game by the MadWorld team. I assume they've largely finished production on MW, since it ships in a month.

I doubt that it will be a sequel though, since there are no solid sales figures on MW yet (and, yes, I know you were kidding).

As much as I know N4Gers love a chance to engage in a console flame war, let me stop this one right now:

The article says that the publisher is Sega. (Thus why Smacktard seems to be expecting an announcement about Platinum Games, since their current projects in development are all going to be published by Sega.)

Props to whoever submitted this article for being hyperliteral enough to list it only under "Wii."

That should lessen the fallout somewhat.

NASCAR Kart Racing? What the hell?

O.K., so the Wii has four games coming out this week: Deadly Creatures, House of the Dead: Overkill, Onechanbara, and NASCAR Kart Racing. Of those games, which would you chose as one of the week's highlights? Quick, there's only one really bad answer. Oh look, they picked it.

For the first month since I bought my Wii, I'm faced with a really hard choice between two games: House of the Dead: Overkill and Deadly Creatures.

It doesn't help that they have very similar strengths (high production values, exciting gameplay, great atmosphere) and weaknesses (minor framerate problems, too short).

Normally in a tie like this I would opt for either the most unique game or the one that promises the greatest amount of play time, but they are both equa...

Bad reviews?

Yes, Disaster got very mediocre reviews, but not terrible ones. Although I can see why iffy reviews and dismal sales would make them hesitant to release it in the U.S.

What other game were you referring too? Fatal Frame hasn't been reviewed by many Western publications yet, but the Japanese reviews were largely in the 80s, if I remember right. Fragile was just released in Japan, but the reception seems to be pretty positive thus far.

Woo, I'm really happy to see them put the odds of a US release of Fragile at "High." I was afraid I'd never get a chance to play what looked like the Wii's best RPG thus far.

Boo, however, at Nintendo probably denying us Captain Rainbow and Disaster.

Wait, Mario isn't hardcore?

Listen, this hardcore/casual distinction is incredibly subjective and, frankly, stupid to begin with, but when it denies a franchise that has been around for two decades and five consoles without any major dip in quality, that many gamers (myself included) were basically raised on and that is consistently demanding with brilliant level design the "hardcore" label, then what the hell is hardcore? How Super Mario Galaxy, presently one of the be...

As one of this site's few Wii fanboys, I feel obligated to say this:

Just wait until Monster Hunter 3 is realeased!!!

O.K., now, seriously, here are a few guesses:

- Maybe the Wii is reaching total market penetration in Japan. Japan's video game consumption may be high per capita, but it is actually not a huge market and the Wii has been selling in huge quantities there for over two years now. Maybe most of those who want one already own one.

Honestly, I don't see HotD:O and DS as direct competition to each other. Dead Space probably won't be out until late this year or early 2010, whereas Overkill drops next Tuesday (or is it next Friday?). Even the most desperately strapped for cash zombie lover is likely to be able to save up $50 over the course of the six to twelve months between these releases to get both.

(That's assuming Dead Space turns out well. I'm waiting for more information before I start desperately anti...

That happens.

We all screw up. For example, I clearly did not proofread my above comment. conso9le?? God.

6210d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I don't think that this is any anti-Nintendo article.

What the article is actually saying is that when Nintendo releases their next console they face a choice between the conventional method of releasing a technologically advanced but similar console and releasing a riskier conso9le that is a major detour from existing trends (like the Wii). Both possibilities have potential advantages and disadvantages. The article was simply presenting an analysis of the difficult decisions tha...

Yes, the Wii's userbase is smaller than the PS2's, but the Wii only been out for less than two and a half years. The PS2 has been out for much, much longer.

So why are we discussing Nintendo discontinuing the Wii now? When that does happen, it won't be until after a) Nintendo's next platform is released (not announced, as High Def said) and b) it is no longer profitable for developers to produce Wii games. Those events are years away.

Also, why doesn't anyone ever me...

Yeah, Cajun, I was going to say. Casino Nights Zone is one of the greatest examples of level deign, ever. When I think of great 2D platformer level design, I immediately think of CNZ, and I'm no Sonic worshiper. I was always a Nintendo fanboy back in the 16-bit console wars.

Most of the levels in Sonic 2 were superbly well designed. Although the precision jumping in a few of the levels has left me with PTSD.

Wasn't there a video leaked with gameplay footage of Sadness a few months ago?

Still, I'd be shocked if we see it this year, if it is ever released.

I don't even understand how they plan to turn Grey's Anatomy into a game. Is it going to be like Trauma Center with obnoxious sexual banter mini-games?

6213d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Sorry, but this only makes sense if you totally ignore the context of this announcement.

You have to ignore the recession, the strength of the Yen, and the fact that ultra-hardcore Sony just experienced considerable losses too.

Nintendo isn't anticipating the death of a fad. They're anticipating a particularly nasty financial environment and they are not naive enough to believe that they are immune.

It's worth noting, however, that even with such a massi...

Actually, according to the article, Wii software sales accounted for more than half of Nintendo's total, not DS software sales.

Here are the estimates given by the article:
Wii - 70 million units
DS - 60 million units
Xbox 360 - 50 million units
PS3 - 30 million units

Mind you, that still means that the 360 is selling more software units for each console sold than the Wii, but the Wii is beating it in overall software sales by ~20 million. Pre...

Awesome.

The original de Blob was one of my favorite Wii games of last year.

A few requests for the original:

1) More mission variety.

2) Nix the levels and go with a single open world. (They can still keep the gates from the last game to do this without demanding more than the Wii can handle.)

3) More boss battles like the one with Comrade Black at the end of the first game.
