Starting this article with a paragraph that tries to explain that you are not being sexist and mentions that there are some girls that are good at games is a lot like prefacing a list of ethnic stereotypes with "I'm not a racist and I have a lot of friends who are [insert race here]."
Mind you, this isn't as severe as that, but there's a similar model at work: when you are about to stereotype, but are self-aware enough to realize it, you justify and make excuses for you...
That's a valid point, but the fact that this is directed specifically at women ("your girlfriend") and is so laden with gender stereotypes (girls like cute games, girls like simple games, etc.) makes me think that it is more like to make female non-gamers feel insulted than encouraged.
Wow, this may be the most condescending article I have ever read. If you want your girlfriend (or boyfriend) to take an interest in gaming (or not to break up with you), I don't recommend that you start by treating them like a child or assuming that will conform rigidly to certain gender norms. Seriously, just because someone is of a different gender doesn't mean you can only get them to try a video game is to coddle them and offer them the most simplistic or sanitized thing you can find.
Aside from the well established issues with the 360, there is nothing exceptional about the hardware failures of this generation.
The PS3 has a pretty standard failure rate, compared to previous generations, and the Wii has an amazingly low failure rate.
I'm fairly sure he meant the next E3 and not next year's E3. There would be no reason to talk about E3 2011 when E3 2010 is still months away. So, yes, translation error or he misspoke.
Very anxious for Fragile. I have been waiting for it to be localized since before its Japanese release. I am so excited that it is finally going to be released in the states.
I suspect what that Nintendo is probably just discontinuing the metal case and art book, and not the game altogether. They will probably discontinue the Collector's Edition and release a standard edition in the typical plastic Wii case.
I doubt sales have anything to do with this.
Wow, this is an insane bargain. It was already a great deal at $50. $20 is obscene.
Sorry Mahr, I didn't mean to suggest than the N64 and GameCube weren't profitable. Nintendo is very business savvy, and doesn't have to be the market leader to be successful.
My point was that even if consider the GC and N64 to be commercial failures, there really are no grounds for comparing them to the Wii.
What about them? I'm really not sure what you're implying.
If you mean that both were eclipsed in sales by other systems, yes, that's totally true. Neither were absolute failures, but both were far from hugely successful.
But what does this have to do with the Wii? The N64 and GameCube sold below their competitors from launch. The Wii has consistently outsold its competitors. Besides the fact that all three systems were made by Nintendo, what is the point of comparis...
Oh god, here we go again.
First of all, even if the Wii did not sell another unit, it would be far beyond fad status. How many Tickle Me Elmos were sold two Christmases after it was released? Not over four million. Three Christmases? I don't know about Elmo, but it looks like the Wii will sell around two million this year.
And no software sales? Then why are 4 to 6 of the top 10 best sellers titles each month Wii games? And these aren't brief hits that fizzle after a...
Wow, a list indeed. This is nothing but a list. No explanation for each game, no exposition whatsoever. The entries aren't even number. And the title is incomplete.
How did this ever get approved?
There were eleven games better than this in the last ten years?
I couldn't name one.
I'm wondering this also. I thought S&P2 was supposed to be released in the first quarter, and Mario Galaxy 2 seemed like a likely Q1 release also. Maybe they're not on here because they haven't been dated yet.
World of Goo is only #10, but Dead Space Extraction is #4?
I know lists are completely arbitrary, but that just seems terribly wrong.
I really regret paying full price for this. I think I would have liked it more had I bought it for $20-30, since I wouldn't have been disappointed by its length.
First of all, thanks EvilTwin. I appreciate the compliment. (I wrote this.)
Let me say that I don't think offline multiplayer is absolutely essential, but I do think it can be and has been a huge factor in Wii sales. How many of the highest grossing Wii games have hotseat multiplayer? Mario Kart, both Wii Sports titles, Smash Bros., NSMB, and several others. Meanwhile, the games with the most robust online options don't seem to sell at the same level. I'm not arguing that develop...
I am so frustrated about being broke. I'll have to add this to the growing list of titles that I want but cannot afford.
Nobody bought Wii Motion Plus? Isn't Wii Sports Resort one of the best selling games of the year? Didn't Tiger Woods sell well also? In fact, didn't all of the M+ pack-in games sell well? So, in fact, well over a million M+s have been sold.
The reason few games have been released utilizing it so far is because Nintendo failed to provide developers with the tools they needed to create M+ games in a timely manner. In fact, many devs didn't see the tech until it was unveiled at E3 '...
So Metroid: Other M will be released before Galaxy 2? That's shocking, considering that SMG2 is supposed to be all but finished.
