I think people who have working PS2 games and have purchased a PS4 would like to be able to play their games via emulation on their PS4 sans Trophies of course. Baring that they could always play their game on a PS2 console, a backwards compatible PS3 or even on a PC under emulation.
If you are a PS4 owner and don't have PS2 games or the original PS2 game then you you would think that you would have to pay to play the game even if it did not have trophies.
Well they do provide sales figures and even though they may not be as accurate as some would like, the information provided is much better than making wild guesses.
Are there other sites that provide better sales figures? I somehow doubt that Microsoft is going to give me exact sales figures so that source it out.
While I do agree with you it is not as simple as that, you also have to have a display device that can support 144FPS.
Even for PC's most monitors only support 60fps although you can get monitors that have a much higher refresh rates.
The same is true for HDTV's you can get some (3D especially) that can support refresh rates much higher than 144Hz (some plasma TV's actually had 600Hz refresh rates). The most common TV's support up to 50/60 Hz ...
Are you sure of that because it would not be difficult for the Microsoft or Sony for that matter to make digital sales figures available since all sales are recorded by computer.
Actually digital sale by their very nature are incredibly easy to track to the nearest one. Tracking physical sales is so much harder since more complex statistical analysis is needed which does result in uncertainties.
It could be argued that if digital sales are withheld for certai...
Highly unlikely and using Titanfall 2 as an example. Sony would have there own servers (or should I say virtual servers) and so would Microsoft.
It may be possible that Respawn could set up their own servers which would not be cheap and I don't this Sony would object however Microsoft would since they prefer to have control for all on-line games being played on the XBox. The exception being EA.
You don't think remote services (aka the cloud) are free do you?
Basically you will have to pay although you may get some bits for free however there will be limitations.
To even use a remote service you will have to register and if there is money involved a credit and possibly a background check will be made to make sure who you say you are.
When using the cloud from the XBox you have to register and provide some personal details so it ...
Commercial disk drives normally come in two form factors the first 2.5" and the other 3.5" which is physically larger and heavier.
The 3.5" disks do have the advantage of being able to store more data (up to 10TB) then a 2.5" drive (2TB for a HDD and 1TB for an SSD) and the XB1 has plenty of internal space for a 3.5 disk to be installed by the manufacturer.
The problem will be how much are you willing to pay for those extra TB and even if ...
My original PS3 has touch controls and it is still working.
I am not sure how Microsoft can seriously have a slim model while they still have an external power brick, good marketing I suppose. At least with the commercial PlayStation's and even their slim models they always had an internal power supply.
Oh well I will probably get lots of disagrees so I will duck behind this convenient chest high wall. :-)
@Lukejrl & @mixelon
Sorry under normal earth atmospheric pressure you cannot heat water to over 100°C (212°F) since it will all turn to steam. Even boiled water will cool a few degrees even when placed in a thermal container.
When people boil water under normal conditions for say instant coffee or tea the water will most likely cool to approximately 85°C to 95°C which depends if you add an additional liquid such as lemon or milk.
@mixelon
I assume the temperature you game us was in Fahrenheit since most people and since most people in the world use Celsius or Centigrade (ie °C), I will do some conversion for you.
180°F is equivalent to 82°C which for coffee or tea is not that hot although to be fair you don't really want it poured on you since at that temperature it will burn human skin.
Lets put things in perspective shall we. The boiling point of...
The PS2 could not run games at 1080p. With the BC PS3's you could smooth and rescale to display on a 1080p HDTV.
Many PS2 games did have wide screen support. In fact most of my sixty plus PS2 games do.
Since I do have a BC PS3 I normally let it smooth the game but I always keep the same aspect ratio since any game or even movie for that matter looks odd if you try to change the aspect ratio.
For those that don't know, an aspect ratio is it the ratio of the width to the hight of a display device.
The original TV's predominately had an aspect rati...
Well let the market decide.
It does not take long for sales and marketing to realise that a set price is too high and there is a need to lower their prices if they want to remain in business.
Good post and I do agree with most of what you said.
As for playing PS2 disks which I definitely would like I do think that could be a legal minefield. There are possibly only four scenarios of playing PS2 games via the PS4 under emulation.
The first one is put in your PS2 disk and the emulator (sans trophies) would take care of the rest. This would most likely be the safest solution.
The second would be for the emulator to "rip" th...
I would not pay to play a game I already own and I don't really care for trophies although I don't have any objection to vendors charging people for a game they don't already own.
The PS2 was launched mid 2000 however games for it were still being produced even after the launch of the PS3 (Nov 2006) so some PS2 games would be less than 8 years old.
I don't have any issues with the vendor selling PS2 games to run on the PS4 via emulation. Let the market decide on this.
I do have a collection of over sixty PS2 games and since I do have a BC PS3 I don't have any problems, however if I don't have a PS2 game and I would like to play it I would expect to pay for doing so.
When I finally get a PS4 the only way I would pay for PS2 games would be if I did not have a particular game I wanted to play o...
You don't have to buy brand new you can get a refurbished console from a reputable dealer and in Australia you get a 12 month warranty.
Second hand is fine however you have no real comeback if the console fails although I do know the PS3 is very reliable since I still have and play my backwards compatible PS3.
If you find the PS3 fan running at high speed most of the time this usually means that the thermal paste is breaking down. It is surprisingly easy ...
Well I have my backwards compatible PS3 sitting next to my PC and to play a game all I do is to insert the game media then select the HDMI connection via my monitor (single button press) and I am good to go.
I can quickly switch back to my PC (single button press) if I need to although it is usually a good idea to pause the game or if you can't as in the Souls games then get to a safe place.
It's all well and good to emulate a device which is no longe...
Not really, I still have one and it's about 30 cm (approx 1 foot) to the right of my monitor. Takes about a second to switch between my PC and my FAT PS3.
@ocelot07
I am curious. What devices are you connecting to your consoles USB ports?
You can get a USB extender for the PS3 and the PS4 and it is not that expensive. I actually use my PC or even my HDTV's USB port to charge my controllers. I don't even have to re-pair although I...
An emulator can improve the graphics ouput, however from what I can gather when you download a PS2 game onto the PS4 you effectively download the base PS2 image as well as a file which is associated with trophies for that game.
At no time is the original image or even the code for that matter changed.
Setting up an image for trophies is different since the image is not changed. What happens is the emulator detects certain events when displaying the game and ...
