I actually decided on the latest Intel Skylake processors (i3, i5 and i7) which dictate motherboard (Z170 series) and memory (I have 16GB of DDR4). You should also pick an SSD (60G or more) for the system disk (essential) and 1TB or more HDD's (I got a 3TB 7200 rpm disk) for you main storage. Don't forget your backup strategy as well.

If you are seriously into PC gaming you also have to consider your monitor specs including it's size. Too big and can be hell on yo...

Oh a PC elite, well you do need a monitor that supports 2k @ 144Hz. I actually have a LED 55" HDTV with a 200Hz refresh rate and I don't get motion blur.

Choosing a monitor can be hard since you can go for a gaming monitor with a high refresh rate and/or IPL/PLS which can look stunning from a colour perspective. Of course you also have to look at the overall size and aspect ratio as well since a large monitor can be very hard on the eyes and a small monitor not that...

Got the best of both worlds I have a powerful i7-6700 desktop PC, backwards compatible PS3 and a PS4 all selectable via my IPS monitor so no fiddling with cables.

On occasion I want to play on my 55" HDTV and it take me a minute to disconnect the HDMI and power cables (both industry standard - no brick) and connect to the cables on entertainment unit.

Personally I have never been a PC gamer so I use the in-built graphics of my PC motherboard although I h...

Not sure why being able to put Linux on the PS4 would prove all that beneficial except maybe to the home brew crowd.

Most people have no idea how to even install a Linux distribution or any operating for that matter, so again this is restricted to people who do.

Using a 1080p HDTV as a monitor while doable is not that great on the eyes and you still have to shell out for a keyboard and mouse although to be fair you can get those fairly cheaply but definitel...

@Aenea

A quick search will prove you wrong. Bill Gates never did write MS-DOS it was actually written by Tim Paterson.

Most software developers actually use the tools they are comfortable and familiar with.

DirectX is a suite of graphical software libraries that are proprietary to the Microsoft OS. There are other graphical libraries that are used with Android and IOS (Apple) as well as the PS3 and PS4.

When you start a game you may see names like Bink, Unreal or CryEngine just to name a few (there are many more). These are what is called "game engines" in that they...

Your so right. Both DX12 and OpenGL are software and as such can be optimised. What they can't do is change the physical and electrical characteristics of the hardware.

There is a huge difference between upgrading your PC for performance reasons (eg. i5 --> i7) compared to doing the same thing with a console. Change the overall performance of a current generation console and you risk alienating your earlier adopters.

The only thing that does improve performance is to change your hard disk so that loading times are reduced. This is an acceptable performance improvement and one that equally applies to the XB1 as well as the PS4.

I am well aware Microsoft has deep pockets but do you honestly think Microsoft shareholders will permit such a thing to happen?

@Gamer4News

Can't see that happening although I do have to admit that Microsoft's public relations department is one of the best in the world.

@castillo

In the console market model numbers are normally associated with power consumption and physical presentation, however they are never represe...

I think that issue was fixed in that 15GB patch since I have put in over 15 hours and have not noticed any issue.

Actually when I got the game it was ready to play on my PS4 within 5 minutes although I did wait till I downloaded the patch.

I actually played Blooborne first because the patch was smaller and I did not mind the one hour wait. This is a really great game and even though I loved the Souls series the combat on Bloodborne is more I suppose for want ...

While I only have a PC , PS3 and PS4 I always like to know what is getting put on my systems. This is why I only allow manual updates.

Could not agree more.

As far as I am concerned if you enjoy playing the game that is the best award although one that the developers would never see.

Still developers do see sales and the more the better.

Skyrim on the PS3 had allot of issues although the main one was the 6MB bug/feature were the loading times got noticeably longer because of auto saving.

The fix was to turn off all auto saving although it was always a good idea to auto save ever 30 minutes to an hour depending how confident you were.

Another annoyance was the DLC. With the legendary edition loading all DLC was IMHO an invitation to a disaster which you would not know about until you had playe...

Playing now under hard (not the top) mode and with the latest patch (15+ GB - huge) it appears to be quite stable and great fun to play.

Even guiding Roach your horse seems to be quite easy which was supposed to be an issue prior to the patch, although it is even easier if you just press "X" and let the horse follow the tracks, every now and again making adjustments.

There are some long loading time especially if you die which is quite easy on hard...

The Witcher 3 looks pretty good on my 55" 200Hz HDTV and I don't get blur when I pan around. Playing via my 24" IPS 60Hz monitor also looks extremely nice as well.

One feature of the PS4 I really like is it's portability in that I just unplug the HDMI and power cord (takes seconds), take it into the living room and plug it into a spare power connector and HTMI cable and I am good to go on my 55" HDTV with 7.1 sound. Of course the reverse is true if I wi...

It is not a matter of graphics that can make a good game it is a combination of many things to numerous to mention here and graphics is just one of them.

The most important feature of any game is the enjoyment factor and that is subjective.

What do you mean 4k , you should know that 8k which will be out in 2016 will blow 4k out of the water by a factor of four. Of course we all know that everyone will rush out and buy an 8k UHDTV and junk their now obsolete 1080p HDTV's.

Other than that I have to send my crystal ball back to shop since it's getting a bit hazy lately. :-)

You do know that 8K is actually due out in 2016 so 4K will most likely be obsoleted.

Basically making the next generation all digital is like telling gamers who don't have an internet connection to get lost since we don't really want your money.

That is a very courageous decision since over half the population of this planet don't have internet access. Many of those that do have Internet access have caps and/or slower speeds.

In some respect you (well someone is) are actually paying for your internet connection so you are still paying for on-line games even if there is no charge for playing that game on the servers.

If you look at the PS4 (the PS3 is still free for most games) you have to pay to play on-line games however there is no charge for access to the store or to download patches.
