I found that Psychonauts is a rather quirky but surprisingly addictive game. I still have the PS2 version and a backwards compatible PS3 so until the remastered version drops in price I will stick with the original. Still it is good to see a remaster of this game which from what I can gather was largely ignored.
Ah, you must really like adverts. I can understand adverts for free games but every few minutes?
The only mobile game I actually play is Solitaire as a time waster when I am waiting. I do on occasion play Angry Birds however lately that is getting decidedly boring. Most mobile games seem to be some variation of Tetris, Bubble Bubble, card games and slot machines. Oh yes and the odd RPG (even though I do like this genres) , Strategy or Fighting game which for me gets old really quickly since I really hate the touch screen interfaces.
One thing that I did find annoying about FFXII were those targeting lines. Fortunately, you can turn them off.
Compared to other FF games FFXII has relatively huge maps and is fairly open world in that you can basically go just about anywhere (within reason) although you won't survive long even if you opt for turn-based combat.
Some features I really did like with FFXII were, no random encounters since you could see all enemies and you did not shift ...
A 4k TV or monitor will display a 1080p signal or even a 720p signal full screen. If your display has a high refresh rate such as 120Hz, 144Hz or higher then, the picture even at 30fps can actually look quite smooth although it is still preferable to have a high framerate input. What is more important is to have a constant framerate from your PC or console.
Of course, you have to keep in mind that a console is designed to output to HDTV's which conform to the HD standar...
There is nothing wrong with running games on a Linux OS, after all, Android has a Linux kernel and I would not say that was a failure since it owns over 80% of the smartphone market and there are a huge amount of games for that platform. While Android lags behind Apple in the tablet market (Microsoft OS dominates here but not by that much) it is doing reasonably well and many games that run on smartphones will also run on tablets.
You are quite right the price of the Steam ...
You are quite right the price scared away many potential buyers when it is actually cheaper to just purchase a standard PC which could do so much more. Basically, the sweet spot depending what you are offering is now between US$400 and US$500. You also have to keep in mind that they were competing against three consoles which are considerably cheaper.
>> Linux has it's uses but it's really not for the average person.
I guess you have never used a Linux distribution to say something like that.
Installing Linux is almost stupidly easy although it does help but is not essential to have at least a basic understanding of Linux/Unix concepts and depending what graphical interface you pick it is just as intuitive as Microsoft Windows. In fact, it can be more intuitive and customizable than Micr...
Depends on the games you are interested in.
I have a Linux desktop and I can run Windows games under Win10 which in turn is running on a virtual machine. I can even run many Windows games under compatibility software like "Wine".
The thing is I don't trust Windows 10 since it really tries to phone home. Yes, you can turn most of that off if you know how but most Windows users have no idea. So to all those users of Win10 enjoy your targeted a...
Microsoft appears to want a "One Windows to rule them all" attitude with their push to basically force users to upgrade from either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. This would not be that bad since you do get a free upgrade, however!
I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO (about 4.5GB) to my Linux (Fedora 23 if you are interested) Desktop and installed it in a virtual machine (base install size is 9.4GB). This way I have control over what the install can actually ...
Microsoft recently applied for a patent on a modular PC which is IMHO really prior art dating back to the 1980's. The concept allows the owner to replace components which in theory is not that different to modern day desktop PC's although like a desktop it is not that simple as swapping a single component.
As an example, say you wish to replace your graphics card in your PC. You go out and purchase your new and usually more expensive graphics card or cards, now you ...
Consoles are predominately aimed at the most common consumer display and that is a HDTV (1080p) @ 50/60Hz depending on the country and that mainly means that frame rates will be in the order of 50/60fps depending on the country although most can display a 60fps signal. Sure, there are HDTV's that have refresh frequencies higher than 50/60Hz but they do cost more.
At the moment, 4k and soon to be 8k TV's are available but in the case of 4k or UHDTV's they are mor...
You can also use your PC USB or a battery pack. The nice thing about doing this is that you don't loose your Bluetooth pairing although this may depend on your PC's USB. With my old laptop, I always had to pair again, not so with my desktop.
Oh dear, the light bar dimming capability. For starters, this is so you don't get or at least reduce any reflection on your TV, but it will not improve battery life. To actually improve your Dual Shock 4's battery life y...
Well, we could have got "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" - ducks for cover. 😉
I have never been that interested in sports games but from what I can gather NBA2k16 is really good game for those who like the genres. Good one Sony.
I will give "Gone Home" a play though since I do like Action/Adventure however, this game is classified as Adventure so that should be interesting. As for "Siren" on the PS3 and "Echochrome" (actually my wife may like that as well) on the PS4 -- give me a break there are only so many hours one ca...
It may come as a shock to you but you can use a keyboard and mouse on both the PS4 and the XB1.
If I want to play a video file which is encoded with the H265 codec @ 10bit or 12bit I have a PC for that were I can use VLC (8bit or 10bit) or mpv Media Player (8bit, 10bit or 12bit). Of course, I could take the file and transcode it to 8bit H264 but the file is usually bigger, doing that would only take a few minutes on my PC.
Personally, I actually use my PS4 as a games machine, not a media center.
The only real annoyance I do find with the PS4 UI is the fact that all your games appear on the main crossbar. Why not just list the last three or four you played in order rather than the lot in order of last play since you can use your library to list your games [A-Z], [Z-A] or by install date. Of course, if you only have a few games then this is a none issue.
If you have many games you can also use voice commands with your chat headset or ear bud which comes with all PS4...
You are both right and wrong at the same time.
Sure it is up to the gamer as to if they are going to purchase a particular game, however, developers and to a greater extent the distributors dictate as to whether a game has multiplayer, single player or even how much DLC it can have and god forbid "pay to win" content.
If players just lap up what is thrown to them then the developers will continue to produce more of the same and even get involved...
My PC is a pure Linux (Fedora 23) based machine and the Dual Shock 4 works perfectly on it.
As you should be aware Microsoft is pushing Windows 10 to the point where you could classify it as Malware since they have used quite underhanded tactics to basically force Windows 7 and 8.1 owners to upgrade. Do some simple web searches and you will see I am correct.
I am well aware that many Microsoft apologists will say I am wrong or I should put my tin foil hat...
