If you look at the specs for optical out verses HDMI there is little if any discernable difference in audio quality. As to which one you should use well that is up to you and the equipment you have. Even if the new PS4 does not have "optical out" you really have to ask the question. Do I really need it or is there are workarounds such as "optical out" from your TV.
HDMI is basically and all in one package that supports video and audio as standard. Later ...
You mentioned High Dynamic range (HDR), well you should also know that there are two competing standards. The first is HDR10 (no licence fee) and the other is Dolby Video HDR (licensed). A simple search for "HDR" will get you millions of hits. See: http://hometheaterreview.co... for one example.
What you need to know is if your 4K TV supports HDR10 (4K Bluray)...
As for 4K TV's being affordable now, I sort of agree with you but it's not that simple.
Without going through a technical ramble you have to consider firstly the screen size then the resolution as well as the features the display supports. It is also very important to consider your eyesight and how far back you will be sitting when viewing your display. See https://en.wikipedia.o...
I have the CUH1200 model and it's at the moment within one meter of my ears since its sitting on my computer desk. If I mute my speakers and start playing a game I can bearly hear the fan and I do have very good hearing.
If your PS4 is noisy then clean your air vents, also make sure the console is well ventilated or stand the console vertically (stand optional). If the fan is still noisy then you may have a problem with the thermal paste (normally over two years). Eith...
I have the PS4 CUH1200 model and it has physical power and eject buttons. It also consumes less power than the original CUH1000 models. In fact, I don't really use the power and eject buttons since I control the PS4 via my dual shock 4.
If you really mean a physical power switch then why would you want one since you can just unplug the device from the power socket or if you are that concerned about power usage (a few Watts per year) you could always trip the circuit bre...
@Stevonidas
I did not buy a PS4 just to watch movies, I brought it to play games. In fact, the PS4 and the XB1 can (look at their specs) actually display 4K content, what they can't do is display 4K Bluray movies since they don't have a 4K Bluray player.
I don't have a 4K display and have no plans to get one in the foreseeable future. In fact, I would rather wait 3 to 5 years for an affordable 8K display. It may even be possible for me to forg...
Well, he was not impressed with Halo 5, Star Wars Battlefront (EA), The Division and Quantum Break all of which he gave a 5 to 6 out of 10. Which as far as Joe is concerned are all average and some a little above average.
One thing I do like about Joe's reviews is he does actually point out the good and the bad points and he does not pull punches. Even if Joe does give a game 10/10 he always states that this is still not a perfect score.
@TheOptimist
Yes, I am quite sure that most of the PC's sold today come with a GTX950 or better (NOT).
Actually, according to the Star Citizen PR, the game will not run on the current consoles since they are too underpowered. So if I read that correctly then this game is only for high-end PC's which is kind of reducing your potential market dramatically.
For better or worse, No Man's Sky is available to play now and on a so-called underpowered console and PC's while Star Citizen is still in development and is costing many millions of dollars more.
Well, The Witcher3 is about 50GB and that is not including the two main DLC's. In fact, the latest patches of TW3 have been in the order of 15GB. Even games like Bloodborne have an install size of 35GB with patches being in the order of 9GB.
Actually, if you care to look in the store (Microsoft or Sony) you will find that many AAA games fall into the 30GB to 50GB install size. Of course, there are games which can be a few hundred MB to under 10GB that are excellent (som...
Unfortunately, you do get some Indies that really do need to go away and some of the latest games I have seen on Steam are complete rubbish from my perspective although many would agree and disagree with me. However, there are some Indie games that are great and are every bit as good (if not better) as some AAA games.
Sure you can be influenced by the hype and the advertising but it all boils down to you as the individual gamer who likes or dislikes a particular game.
You are quite right, after all, you are the one who either likes a game or not and that has nothing to do with whether the game is AAA or Indi.
You just mentioned the heavy hitters such as Halo and Gears of War (you did forget Forza) as if they are the only reason why people buy and XBox. It may come as a shock to you but there are many people who are not really that interested in those games.
As for games being poorly optimised for the PS4 (at least that is what you are alluding to) please give examples.
Personally I don't have any issues with PSN where I live, but obviously, I can't s...
I have only had my PS4 a little over seven months and in that time I have never used the power or the eject button. This is not to say that I don't know what those buttons are for but it is quite easy to control everything from the controller.
All organisations at some stage do some questionable and sometimes illegal things in the eyes of the laws of some countries. Sony's main questionable practice seems to be the "root-kit fiasco" which happens over eleven years ago. If you actually look into the case you will find that it was not Sony's fault but because they were in the process of acquiring BMG they took the blame and the fines. Actually, it's a bit more complex than that. How was it that the "root-ki...
Microsoft has some very smart people working for them and as such they do come out with some very interesting technology although it must stress that they are not a hardware company, but like any corporation they do have to make money. Basically, it is how they go about money that does not impress some people.
Without going into a long rambling tirade about some of Microsoft's questionable practices I will just draw your attention to how they "pushed" the Wind...
Well, they got it wrong. You are not trying to reach the centre of the Universe you are trying to reach the centre of your galaxy although "centre" is not quite the right word since we should know there is a super-massive black hole there and it's a little difficult to land in/on a Black Hole (singularity) although it is postulated that you could use the singularity to open up a gateway to a different galaxy in a different universe providing your ship and yourself could survive ...
The why play any RPG?
If any type of leveling (grinding) is not fun then the RPG IMHO has lost it and is not worth playing, however, what may be fun for some could be boring and tedious to others. This is a problem all RPG's have to contend with.
Granted there are some people who just want to finish a game as quickly as possible and are quite happy to read/watch playthroughs and use any exploits. Why do some people do this on RPG's or any game whi...
I don't think it's a matter of not getting through Skyrim (the main quest is about 30 to 50 hours long), I think it's more along the lines of I don't really want to finish the game since I am having a great time playing it.
The trouble with Skyrim and Oblivion is that they have a difficulty slider/selector (The Witcher 3 has this too) and you can change that in-game (sort of like a cheat). However, once you get the best armor and weapons and can apply a doub...
A headset that needs an optical input? How many people have those?
Most headphones, quality or otherwise are either Wireless, Bluetooth or have an RCA cable. Most Wireless transmitters have an RCA jack and the PS4 supports many Bluetooth headphones.
