Its a shame valve wont be able to compete with ms and sony on price as sony and MS will have there own factorys manufacturing plants making most things themselves rather than have to outsource everything
The 360 had a triple core cpu while pc's had only duel core processors, and the gpu was an experiment for unified shared tech before it was available on the pc, if you look at it from AMDs point of view MS are paying for chip design of a new dx chip for free (R+D is alot of the cost) and ms gets to make a slightly scared back version of new tech early
Ms will pay for the designs of the chips from AMD and set up there own manufacturing plant to produce the components to cut out any 3rd party costs, and you can save loads of money in the future, alot of amd/intel chip cost go into R+D and ms wont be updating anything except cost cutting once the final specs are finalized.
The 360 had a protype gpu in it with unified pipelines before those gpus were could be bought on a pc, i expect the new xbox to have some future dx functions to trail in the new xbox
@gamespawn your right i think they will use faster ram, the cpu and gpu will probably be on the same die with the clock speed lowered slightly to help with the heat and mass production.this will help with bottlenecks between cpu and gpu and make it easy to share fast memory.
I think the 720 will be the most powerful next gen console but i'm worried MS are goin to bung it up with too much blotware thats going to slow it down like windows.
Its not just a streaming machine the tegra chip will have as much power as a vita but with hundreds of ready made apps like youtube, choice of browsers, twitter facebook, and dnla etc, then theres the price of games compaired to the vita
Exactly, I bought a 360 last time at launch as I knew the ps3 wouldn't be a massive leap, but this time the ps4, 720 and steambox will release all around the same time, so I will wait to see which machine has the best specs and the best exclusives will follow
I knew there was a second screen for a reason, I could see this happening somewhere
'You can watch whatever you like on the TV now we have a wii U darling, I will just take the wii U pad upstairs so the sound doesn't disturb you, there is a new app i would like to look at'
Game companys have so much code to go though just to fix bugs you only need to look at a game like skyrim to see how complicated it is, the last thing you need are a$$holes breaking games with rogue software, it doesnt matter if its sony, MS, PC or nintendo hacking online games ruins the game for everyone just for a cheep laugh
Both consoles are very likely to do what MS did this gen with a chip that will scale to a 4k res.
And android phones are much cheeper even samsung androids outsell apple every year, you can't really compair the games industry to a company who practically own the music industry,
Consoles should aways be a loss making machine in the early days that way you make sure they last a long time, the main reason sony made a loss compared to MS was the expenive blu ray drives and XDR memory that the main stream pc never used
The online bit was quite good, and the coop would be good if the story was a bit better and they made more sections where the two went seperate ways more ofter while still seeing each other like the building sniper bit.
They should have named it the wii

With the amount of people unhappy with the specs but nintendo will do what they always do and make unique games you cant play anywhere else, and will do unique things with the screen.
I bet the first add on to the controller will a camera for augmented reality around the house.
It depends on how many PS3 games you own or play online with friends or even if you own an xbox too, there is little dought the wii U will be slightly better than the PS3 and will definatly give you change from the games you find on the PS3/xbox.
Theres creativity in all gens you just have to know where to look, Portal is as creative as anything previous gens had offer, and there is loads more indie stuff thanks to downloadable games.
@extermin8tor nintendo make plenty of money from first party software sales which is far more profitable than licenced software that sony and MS make their money from and the wii has made money on each console sale since launch
not if you use all previous gens as an example, consoles have always took a hit on production costs in the first few years with the exception of the wii to put the best/experimental tech in, for example the 360 the 360 had a triple core processor when PCs had duel core and prototype GPU, and the PS3 had bluray and the cell with its spu's.
Also the kindle fire makes a small loss on hardware to make it back on software as does the new nexus 7.
Its the business model consoles...
Wow its good to here that valve will subsidize to cost of the machine, hope its not bombarded with to many ads.
