They need to get a close relatonship with nvidia if they want to success in the mobile industry if the had a 6 month exclusivity every time they release a new tegra chip they would soon be bigger than samsung as the best mobile games are now optimized with tegra in mind
I agree phones and tablets have taken over mobile gaming
Ive just bought a new LG LM6200 and it literally took me about 4 day to mess with all the settings turning all the so called picture enhancers off.
I got it just right in expert mode but for some weird reason every few minutes it the picture froze for half a sec which it didnt do in movie mode.
1080p resolution and 4k with scaling chips thats what will happen with next gen consoles with the odd arcade game surporting it and prob sony surporting 4k blu ray films.
I think for value to be a success in the console market is to convert as many games to linux as fast as possible on a slimmed down linux and show the pc gaming community that they can big boost to their gaming rig by downloading linux onto their gaming rig
Crazy personally if its an all time list they should have listed the real innovators for instance minecraft is just a modernized version of 3d construction kit one of the first ever 3D games, i would like to see mojang get anything running in 3d with a 3.5mhz processor and 48k of ram
Maybe all the devs will go where power to make the best game possible, which is why the PS3 had more exclusives.
Edit at marcus below, in the past when the playstation 1 launched it because it had better specs than the established saturn and had a CD rom unlike the N64, if all the games are better on one console but the consoles are released at the same time they will get the most surport in the future. Loyalists are in a minority gamers go where the best games are
Thinking about it sensibly you wouldn't need an ssd if you had loads of memory as you could load the whole game into the memory, hope they don't make the OS too big, you don't need loads of cr@p going on when you playing a game, all its goin to do is clog up memory and cpu cycles.
The big problem for sony and MS is that they are both using similar tech so as soon as it becomes clear which has the best specs everyone will go for that console if the price is nearly the same, I will wait til early 2014 till i decide which to buy, there will be definatly no point buying both this time.
With new consoles alot of new Ips get launched too so get ready, I like the look of new star wars game.
Specs on the new xbox sound better if they sort the memory out its no good without the bandwidth, I stll think MS may drop the bluray drive to save costs and maybe even go with an ssd.
42 inch 1080p is good enough for most people i would rather have a large display personally
The real question is how many of those pc users plugging their pc's into a tv will change to a console linux OS if valve prove it be much better for gaming
$99 for the basic model will be the cheepest launch console ever
With far more complex games than ever before i'm glad they surport the games they have made rather than just leave them flawed, as for the steam box it wont be as powerful as a full spec pc but it will be subsidized and have massively trimmed down OS to for gaming only.
If I was MS i would be very worryied about people the 50,000,000 steam users dumping windows for a trimmed down linux for gaming.
I had a 3DO and it was unsucessful for several reasons, price, 3D and it had no copy protection what so ever, by the sounds of it valve are willing to subsidize piston so it will have a much better chance of success.
There is a slight chance that they will make it easier to connect 3 720s/ps4 tho run games with 3 screens like some games already but other than that it will never happen.
It depends what you mean by winning, steam won big time as a publisher, but pc gaming as a whole makes less than the same game on console, winning in business is the companys that make a large profit, Apple are currently the biggest winners at the mo.
Thats great news if they want to mass market it but im not keen on a tiered system it makes it harder to optimize code and splits the user base up, hopefully they will make games for top tier only and optimize for them specs.
I would set up an interview with a game developer and skype the dev and use the comments section to ask questions to the dev and the ones with the most agrees get asked and some chosen by n4g staff and some chosen by the dev from the comments section
