But would you duel boot it for games if valve made a version of lynux purely for gaming that ran all converted games run at a higher frame rate.
Half life 3 will be great but to say valve won't release it on steam is like saying apple will only release a game on the ipod touch.
Half life 3 is just too big to leave it off the pc but what they may do is release a lynux pc version too along with the lynux to play it saying it will run better when played with this.
It's not a gimmick it's to grow lynux for gaming, lynux if programmed properly runs faster and better for gaming as they can cut out all the nonsense windows has and focus on a gaming OS and also they won't have to pay MS for DX licences download sales.
Because steam will release the same lynux to the pc community too just to grow the format faster and get all the steam users to move away from windows
But COD doesn't have Potential to do anything other than sell millions of copies, where as lara in her peak had adverts for energy drinks, movies and loads of merchandise.
The lara of old opened up the gaming market and made it cool in some circles during the ps1 days.
@aquamara I think his point is that new stuff like dx11 tessalation has to be written in the engine so you can't just write a game for low/med/high without compromising.
Ps4/720 wont need to accommodate anything under dx11 or possibly 12 with the 720
.
@dark witness, i think fps's instead of trying to be all set in big open spaces with no story, make small corridor style games with characters and good storys and choices like deux X.
I think that crytek don't try and buy reviews either,
The big problem with hyping up a game is that if it falls even slightly below expectation it will be marked down far more heavly than if it came out of nowhere.
If they hadn't gone on about how much better the pc version would be then they probably gained better scores from the console versions.
I would be shocked if half life 3 doen't stay exclusive to pc and steambox
You never say never, you don't know who will grasp the new tech and who won't, everyone wanted square last gen and look what happened, this gen sqaure tech demo looks makes it look like they will be a major dev.
Sorry i didnt read your reply first before i typed mine
Its more to do with the way tvs handle the signal, lcd's for instance have generally change depending on what signal its fed thats why modern tvs now have a 24hz mode to match the film frame rate so it updates without having to invent frames and keeps it smooth.
Lcds usally have a 24hz 50hz 60hz and some have 100hz and 120hz.
Plasmas work at much higher refresh rates so its not just as simple as play it at 45 frames as tvs dont like it and it will judder more
There is new piece on vgleaks about the new gpu, i bet its a clever solution to just have two units that work better out of order even if these have to be programmed differently but run well with data from the cpu
This is why MS have gone with the move engines so the can fully share the main memory and its the gpu and cpu it rearranges cpu data and reregisters so it can work go straight to the gpu without traveling back and forth to memory.
I still think the raw power of the ps4 will be a better system but thrre will definaly be thinks the 720 will do the the ps4 can't
I think from the stuff i saw on youtube the map is like a hub where you can fast travel to those places but i don't think you can just traverse across the map like far cry.
Different day/night cycles seemed to impact the places too
That what im thinking too why lose preorder sales.
Yes your right there is much more than that but with something new like the cell or what ms is doing with its GPU compression and move engines hands on experience with it count for alot, games take 1-2 years to make and a console gen lasts 5-7 before the next comes along.
Most devs learn stuff in there first game they could put in because of time constaints
@occluded gamer
I was convinced MS would go digital only next gen with the way they marketed their music and movie downloads.
If they used a removable HDD again you could buy digital boxed games you could trade in and have removed running side by side with much cheeper downloads with the retailers costs knocked directly off the download price, that way you could choose.
I read this as a transitional piece rather than an ecconomical one, I'm 35 and ive own alot of consoles and computers from a colovision to a xbox 360 and everything inbetween.
And everytime a gen change happens you see the people that push tech advancing and the people who don't evolve get left behind.
A good example is square, once pushed tech and once the ps3/360 came they were caught out still making ps2 stuff.
And i read so many devs making their 2nd game o...
Looks great when it's still and then it moves and you get noise everywhere and thats exactly what you don't need in gaming.
