Although I didn't like FFVII Remake, I probably would've bought Rebirth if it was released on PC, simply because I'm a sucker for hype. But since I don't have a PS5, I did not buy it, and when it finally will be released on PC, hype will be dead and I probably won't buy it at all. Especially since if they do it like Remake, which was exclusive to Epic for like a year, I will be even less interested in it when it finally gets released on other storefronts.
I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.
About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering t...
Good to see they're not padding the game with boring stuff like Ubisoft's open world shenanigans. It was one of my fears when they announced it would be bigger and have a higher budget.
I was excited to play Spider-Man for a long time, but when I finally did, I stopped playing after a couple of hours because of that reason. The finding towers and going around collecting random stuff and doing random missions is not fun for me anymore.
I can play around 30min / 1 hour...
As long as they make survival mechanics like hunger and sleepiness as something optional.
Trying to explore while worried about food and where to sleep might be fun for many people, but for me it's just annoying. Especially when eating a dozen apples barely changes your hunger bar.
For me the Bravely Default series is more Final Fantasy than current Final Fantasy. Since it started its development as a FF spinoff, it even keeps some FF stuff like magic names (Fire/Fira/Firaga etc.).
Unfortunately it doesn't sell that well and we can't be sure Square will keep making them, but I hope they do.
So there are people who still think the game will be released on PC right after the "exclusivity period" ends?
Remember that FF16's PS5 exclusivity ended in December 2023, and they still didn't announce a PC release date. FFVII Remake took 1.5 year to be released on PC. So expecting Rebirth to suddenly drop on PC only 3 months after the PS5 version, with no announcements from Square, is unrealistic
I started on FFIV on SNES, and was a big fan until the PS2 era. FFX is still my favorite RPG of all time. I liked the series enough that this year I'll even go to two different FF concerts here in Japan (BRA BRA and Distant Worlds).
But then XI was an mmorpg. And then XII had bad protagonists (Vaan and Penelo) and a boring plot that was more political than character-driven, XIII (and it sequels) was that trainwreck, XIV was another mmorpg, XV was another trainwreck, VII Remake...
Still doubting they will ever beat the emotional punch in the gut of the first game ending, If felt like a complete experience that didn't need a sequel. But I'm curious to which direction they will take the franchise to, and I'll be playing it on release day.
Your statement "Nintendo owns Pokémon" still stands wrong. Just like if you own 33% of the shares of a company, you're still under the rule of the ones who control the majority.
Yes, the chances that Game Freak and Creatures will go over Nintendo is extremely low. That's why Masuda says it's "highly unlikely" that Pokémon will ever be released on other platforms. But not impossible.
Because Nintendo doesn't ow...
I guess we all liked different aspects of the game. I actually wanted a little less fighting so I could concentrate on Senua's psyche.
My fear is exactly that they'll "mainstream" the game and make it more hack'n slash, in detriment of the deep dive into Senua's mind that the first game had.
@RabbitFly
"Ackshually..." no, Nintendo doesn't own it. Don't know if links are ok here, so type "Who Owns Pokémon? gameinformer" on Google.
At first Nintendo only sold the games, while Creatures were the producers, and Game Freak were the developers.
At the end, Masuda, who's Game Freak's co-founder, says they keep Pokemon on Nintendo platforms for the companies' friendship, so it's implied that just as Game Freak de...
I was enjoying FFVII Remake, even though those whispers throughout the game were annoying. But the ending was so bad that I don't even want to play Rebirth. On top of that, from what I saw on reviews, the ending of Rebirth is even worse.
Also, I'm glad to see Zero Time Dilemma being recognized as the trainwreck it is. After the amazing two first games (especially the near perfect second one), the low quality of the trilogy end is baffling. The new characters are ba...
Great news. I like Grandia 2 so much that I actually made my first game mod for it, which was an HD HUD mod for the anniversary edition.
(And I dare say it looked better than the filtered graphics we got for the HD edition)
A perfect example of why chasing realist graphics in games will never beat having an interesting visual style.
One other problem it had is that for some freaking reason, an external HD needed its own power source, or you would need to buy a Y usb cable, so you could connect it to both USB ports on the console. Such a stupid decision.
I did enjoy Wii U's games, but geez, it was truly a complete trainwreck...
Sad, but not surprising to hear that the ending is bad. The ending was also the weakest part of the first part.
I really don't mind changes to the plot (when I thought Barret was actually dead in part 1 I thought it would be awesome to know how the story would progress, for example - until the whispers revived him), but the different timelines, ghost destinies and whatever, are just Nomura/Kingdom Hearts levels of utterly bad.
Knowing the ending is bad makes me not excit...
I'm glad they reached this impressive milestone.
The game is not for me, though. Started it like 4 times, but the battle and survival mechanics didn't click with me. Going exploring having to keep in mind where/when I'll sleep or if my food is getting spoiled just doesn't feel fun to me. I also remember having to eat like a dozen apples to barely fill my hunger bar.
Probably it should be someone who likes RPG, who can make the world's biggest RPG series to go back to being a freaking RPG.
And also, Nomura has to stay extremely far away from having any decisions on the plot,
It was criticized for the first trailers having an interesting art style with those ink splashes, but the real game had none of that and people felt cheated. And Capcom decided to add some of those effects in the game later because of the backlash. But I don't remember any other big complaints about it.
I am truly sorry for the recent layoffs, especially since I have a few friends in this industry.
However, as a customer, this won't change the value of Game Pass to me. The article points out that the number of exclusives may diminish, but I don't think exclusives are that necessary, as long as the quality of the games that are added, even if not exclusives, is good. Many games which I was thinking about getting on Steam to try them out, were released on GP.
