No they aren't. The Nintendo Switch is essentially a high end X360/PS3 and it is the number one seller for the past year plus. The best performing hardware never determines sales. The best games and services drive sales.
If hardware was an issue the Switch would've died shortly after launch.
They have announced a lot of games. The when is the big question on games.
As for platform updates, I have always felt that MS is doing the best at this. They are just continuing that so to me it is interesting to know what is coming, but it is not exciting per se.
It is not the best thing to ever happen to gaming, but it is the best service to be provided to gamers.
The best thing to happen to gaming was the next generation console release that is opening up possible new features in games like we saw with Ratchet & Clank where the environment flips in seconds and the Medium where you can have two environments running simultaneously.

Ya, all you need to do is look at the general tone of comments in Destruction All-Stars vs The Medium stories and it becomes clear that certain fans push certain themes on the platforms.
In the end both of these games add to the diversity on the platforms. Will not be loved broadly, but both attract a specific crowd. How big the crowd each attract is up for debate.
Personally, I am not a fan of either genre. Not a big horror person and not a big online...

Honestly, console sales are important but they are not the sole sign of console health.
I am sure Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo would rather have a 50,000,000 console with everyone buying their subscriptions services and 10 games per owner then selling 100,000,000 consoles, 10,000,000 subscription services and 3 games per owner.
Hardware does not make these companies a lot of money, subscriptions and game sales do.

I am a consumer, if they are giving me value i will continue to pay, if they aren't I will stop paying. It is the same for me with PSN+ and PSNow. I will pay until they don't provide me value. It is that simple.
And as a consumer you always have to watch what the companies do... Whether it is Control, DMC5, etc ultimate additions or whatever, companies will do their best to pay a little and get you to buy a lot. Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, C...
